this is part of an interesting phenomenon i've noticed where the shorthands people come up with for things wind up being far more annoying than the thing they're actually describing. like if i see a game calling itself a "cozy game" i'm rolling my eyes like good lord we need to put this cozy game shit on the shelf already. but if the same game instead calls itself a "farming sim" i'm just like yup, that's what that is. and then i move on because it's not really my cup of tea. i don't know what to make of this

#the thing that actively bugs me about -core and -punk suffix is theyre never used properly?#-core comes from a music genre indicating its a mashup of x and hardcore punk #like metalcore is metal with hardcore punk aspects right?#and so post lorna shore deathcore has just lost all meaning #its just hyper produced soulless slop without a lick of punk to be seen #which to be totally clear isnt lorna shores fault #but their success in what is ultimately a moneyless industry (extreme metal) has led every limp dick loser to just copy paste their work #its very tiring #i dont particularly care for deathcore #but it still exhuasts me #the same is true for -punk!#like wheres the fucking punk dude #cyberpunk 2077 had a huge hand in devaluing the pumk suffix #like the most copaganda boot licky game wants to pretend its punk okay sure #but actually i think steampunk is the true culprit behind the milquetoasting of -punk #and its not even like anyone is at fault #mainstream people saw steampunk as an aesthetic and assigned the suffix to anything that followed a similar counter culture trend #its fine it is what it is #but when you call something xpunk i hope youve actually considered whats punk about it
