Anthropologist Encountering
Let's pretend I'm an anthropologist who is meeting the organization "BIZ CAFE" for the first time:
1)Values:
Explicit Values: The organization's values, such as customer satisfaction, innovation, or efficiency, may be stated explicitly.
Implicit Values: Observation may reveal an unspoken focus on speed, adaptability, or a specific approach to risk-taking that is not expressly stated in official documentation.
2) Legends and Heroes:
Explicit Heroes: The organization may publicly recognize and celebrate outstanding leaders or teams.
Implict heroes: Informal talks and tales may reveal individuals or groups who, while not officially acknowledged, are admired and regarded as legends within the organization.
3) Sayings:
Official Slogans: BIZ CAFE's communications may include official slogans or catchphrases.
Unofficial Phrases: Everyday terms used by employees may reveal shared ideals or attitudes. Phrases such as "Brewing Success Together" or "Coffee-fueled Innovation" may be indicative.
4) Rituals and customs:
Formal Customs: Organizational routines may include regular events or meetings.
Informal Rituals: Casual observations may reveal unusual ways of beginning or finishing meetings, team-building activities, or even how breaks are taken, such as gathering around the coffee machine for impromptu chats.
5) Artifacts:
Official Artifacts: Physical objects with official importance, such as awards, branded items, or a signature coffee mug.
Unofficial Artifacts: Personal decorations, desk arrangements, or even the workspace layout can be symbolic artifacts that reflect the culture of the organization. A prominently displayed espresso machine, for example, could represent a commitment to speedy decision-making.
