@bazwrights
one day iāll do an introduction post.
18/07/2026 ā i have not written in here for quite some time. that merits some updates. iāve acquired a job as a research assistant after volunteering with the lab for half a year. although very demanding, the work has been rewarding and i have learned a lot. i hope this helps my future application to phd programs. iāve been working on the proposal of an independent research project; i hope that goes well. lastly, iām taking a psychopathology class which, because of its format (fully online), has been hell.
i almost forgot i had an outing scheduled with a friend today. thank god for calendar reminders. it was nice, though it cut on my study time for an exam. but i do not regret going.
i studied for said exam for most of the day⦠and iām not really hopeful about the results. i will be going to bed earlier than usual in hopes that i can wake up early tomorrow and study before taking the exam. tomorrow is going to be a busy day.
10/11/2025 - i finished the gobbets for history class! yay me! i also finished the miniquiz for research methods. a bit repetitive compared to what i did yesterday, but this is the conclusion of those activities. tomorrow, hopefully, iāll get to finish all i want to finish. and maybe some more. such a shame to be working on hw on a holidayā¦
9/11/2025 - sorry for the inactivity, itās been some busy days. today i worked on my history assignment and reviewed for a mini quiz for research methods. still a lot to doā¦
26/10/2025 - i didnāt do much in the academic realm today. finished an assignment and planned for the other one. i mostly did cleaning duties today, but that is not academic.
24/10/2025 - i got all the things i wanted to get done today done!!!!!! big win for me.
i finished a quiz for a class. read the one scientific article for my esports class, and wrote the review for it. visited an art museum for credit.
as i finished those things, i managed to also read the second article needed, and also wrote the review for it. all while managing to allow time for leisure and fun activities.
tomorrow i am taking a day off, hopefully i am successful in resting and taking a breakā¦
23/10/2025 - hurrah!! i felt more productive today. i had a big flare in the middle of working, which was really annoying as i could barely work. at one point i decided to just rest, which was difficult to say the leastā¦
after two hours or so of having taken my pain meds, the pain actually went away. i cannot emphasize enough how weird that is. i took advantage of this rare phenomenon and tried to catch up with the work i needed to complete for today (more so to feel satisfied with myself rather than because today was the deadline. the deadline for the assignments i worked on is friday and saturday. so i still have time). of course, i got distracted in between tasks, and i am going to sleep rather late (though a normal time for me to go to sleep at⦠sadly) (1am), but i did it! i did what i set out to do today!
the daily planner was, indeed, helpful. i am excited to keep using it and hopefully make my life a little bit easier.
i finished my assignment for saturday, and i am halfway through my assignment for tomorrow. i am trying to get as much things done tomorrow because my little brotherās bday is saturday and i am prioritizing him that day.
22/10/2025 - iāve figured out why some days i feel so unproductive despite getting a lot of things done: i do not work on the things i actually want to get done.
i do not know how to change this, but at least i am now aware of the issue. i did get some things done today like submitting one of my many papers, taking a quiz on honorlock (my new enemyā¦), and deciding my classes for next semester (that was stressful and time consuming). i did not start on my assignments due this week, which i intended to work on today, which is why iām feeling so dissatisfied with todayās progressā¦
i set up a new online daily planner (that i have been meaning to set up for a while nowā¦) and hopefully that will aid me in getting things done and organizing my day better. i cannot always rely on my mind as it constantly fails me; i am very forgetful.
17/10/2025 - no pictures for today. i finished that history paper and i am quite satisfied with it. i am scared to see what my professor thinks of my introduction, though, since it is a bit⦠unconventional. i went to the library and completed the paper there. a very good space to focus and get things done.
15/10/2025 a- i suck ass at photography, but hey at least i remembered this time. prouder of my progress today. i managed to find more sources that i was struggling to find yesterday and the days before that. wrote around 4 paragraphs, and i now have a much clearer idea of where my paper is headed. finished an assignment for class due today (almost managed to forget⦠thank you better canvas extension for the to-do list). took notes on the new chapter for my research methods class. made my first ever salad (as in, first time making one, not eating one. but it might as well have been my first time eating one with the mess i madeāturns out there is such a thing as too much ranch dressing). salad might not be related to academics but i think that set up the path to a productive day of work. i donāt usually eat salads. nor do i usually wake up āearlyā as i did today. used that extra morning time to go to the library and work on my history paper. overall, a productive day where i might even admit to feeling satisfied with my progress.
14/10/2025 - i like to believe i made a lot of progress today, but it does not feel like it. i learned a few weeks ago in my intro to social psych class that we are really bad at estimating how long a task will take us or how many tasks we can complete per day. despite having this knowledge, i canāt help but feel like i did not do as much things as i would have liked today.
some major things i completed today were emailing a faculty member about research opportunities, applying for a paid internship, completing an online study for my research methods class, and getting some new sources for my history paper.
my joints started to hurt a lot while working on my history paper, so iāve decided to sleep early and try to work more on it tomorrow.
sometimes i wonder just how much of my struggle with getting things done i can blame on my disability. is it just laziness? sometimes it doesnāt hurt as much and i could work, yet decide against it. could that decision be because of the amalgamation of tiredness my disability causes? i am not sure i have the answer.
i tried to keep this strictly academic, but my disability interferes with every aspect of my life, so there is thatā¦
hereās to a more productive and satisfying day tomorrow.
10/10/2025 - iām currently working on an article critique for my research methods class. the paper is due this sunday. i am almost done; i just need to expand on some points in the critique section (the one i worked on today) and fix the reflection section (which i also worked on today, though slightly less). i submitted a self-graded rubric which was due today. it helped me realized what needs to get done (like fix some tiny things in the summary section).
that was pretty much it regarding academic progress. i intend to finish my paper tomorrow so i can work on other major assignments on sunday.
iām going to start keeping like an academic diary/journal. iām not sure what the name is. this account will do. maybe it will help me actually get things done. and if not, then at least iāll be able to look back at my progress⦠or lack thereof
tiny star
i grasp you between my hands, tiny star.
my chest hurts from clutching you so tight against it.
my fingers ache from holding you in place.
and in keeping you so close to me, i am hurting myself.
youāre a star, and youāre hot to the touch.
you were not meant to be this close.
i want to let go but i canāt.
fear makes me keep you where you are.
if i let you go, youāll bring light
and i do not want people
to see who i am.
in the darkness i am safe
even if i cannot see myself.
iāve kept you hidden for so long,
i yearn for the day i can let you go.
November 7. November has been much kinder.
October 29. I feel like iām stuck in the present, which is such a bizarre feeling. They tell you to live in the present, but by living in it I feel like Iāll never get out of it. The current moment expands and a different future seems so out of reach. Time flies, but the days are the same and I feel trapped.
work-in-progress
a short story by me :)
āI canāt remember,ā Olivia said in a small voice. Tears threatened to leave her eyes. She was alone in her room with no one to keep her company. She stared at the picture frame that stood in front of her, resting on a bookshelf that had once belonged to her grandparents, but her vision was blurry and all she saw was the faint silhouette of a young man. She couldnāt remember him. She couldnāt remember her father.
At first it was his voice she could not make up entirely. She had a feeble memory of it. Olivia knew for sure it was a deep, manly voice. Sometimes fierce, sometimes soft. But when trying to conjure a concrete sound all she could hear was static.
Then it was his face. She couldnāt see it in her mind as clearly as she could others. She could see his hair, short and black with some strands of gray because of his age. She could sort of recognize the shape it had, more oval than circular, a little bit square-like maybe. If she shut her eyes tight enough and concentrated deeply, she could catch sight of some details like wrinkles and facial hair. But Olivia couldnāt see neither his eyes, nor his nose or mouth. If it wasnāt for the pictures she had of his father, all she would have left was the image of an unknown man.
And then, it was his closeness. His father wasnāt there with her and would never be again. He was six feet underground, immersed in a profound sleep with only insects to keep him company. He would never embrace her in a tight, warm hug again. He would never kiss her in the forehead to remind her everything was alright. He would never come back and tell her how proud he was of her for carrying on.
His father seemed so⦠alien to her. Every time she tried to conjure up a memory of him, a scene of the past, it was like pushing her head underwater. She could not focus her vision, everything was shaking in wavelike movements; she could not distinguish the words he was saying, every sound muffled and distant.
āI canāt remember,ā she repeated, voice trembling and shoulders shaking, tears now covering her face entirely.
***
It had been three years now since he was gone, and Olivia thought she had that part of her life managed. She had grieved, she had cried, talked about it, she even went to therapy. She thought no new problems on that topic would come up, but she was wrong.
When someoneās fine with otherās death, they start feeling guilty for feeling like that. How dare she carry on when her dad would not? How dare she look at pictures and not feel sad anymore? Was she glad she could not remember him? Was she glad he was a faint memory?
She was a monster. How could she forget the one person who ever loved her and be fine with it? Not just fine; glad, relieved, thankful. Was it okay to feel like this? She did not know, and she could not ask anyone as it would be shameful to admit her deed.
Would he be mad? The time she spent with him was too short for her to really know. Her mind had started to jam with hypothetical questions ā various what ifās and would heās ā never to be clarified as the recipient was no longer here to answer them. It made her no good to overthink and try to guess the answers. It only left her with more doubts and a feeling of emptiness she did not like.
Despite that, she kept asking those questions. A curious mind since birth, she would not be stopped from inquiring. In a way, asking was like paintingāand she liked painting. She would take this person and wonder what they looked like behind the dark. She would bend reality to fit her artistic mindset. With each stroke, she would change features as she pleased, not caring if they did not fit with what was presented in front of her. For, how could she paint an accurate picture if the subject in mind was not just cast into shadows but was the shadows itself? An imaginary subject is as good as an invisible one.
With these strokes she could fill the emptiness. She could add light and texture and form shapes. She could finish the painting herself.
And so, his father became an illusion. A myth distorted by time. A game of broken telephone.
Is the ship of Theseus still the same ship if all its parts have been replaced? If not, at what point does the ship stop being itself? How much can one change it before it is too much?
Olivia did not have the answers to any of these questions. In fact, she did not have the answers to anything, she would later find out. This story does not have an end, for grief does not have one either. It is an everlasting process we will carry for our whole life. It will stay with us like a loyal friend, although a little bit more hostile at times. This story is not a story. This not story is life. And life as a whole is not a story to be told but to be kept. Keep it with you. Do not let it go. For the world is not yet ready to know. But thatās not quite right either. The world is ready. Always has been. Ever since the first boom. Since the first hello. The one who is not ready is Olivia. It is you. It is me. Keep me with you and do not let me go, for I am not ready to face the world.
