We’re too few; I don’t have a chance, and I know it. Now there’s a realization. When we’re not on the ground, training, or in the club, I hate the eternal waiting around. I get anxious. I begin to think too much and that’s when the fear begins to creep in for me.

I don’t sleep well. If we’re back in camp more than a week I begin to have bad dreams, talk in my sleep and drink more than I should. But, when we come back from a mission after making enemy contact I sleep like a baby. It’s the waiting around.

It’s better to just come back, take a short rest, reload, and go right back out. I think I know why men go out and take such long chances and pull off unbelievable wild feats of heroism. No training, none of the duty, honor, and country stuff makes us do what we do on our own accord.

I know now what a brave man is. I know now how men laugh at death and welcome it. It takes a brave man to even experience real fear.
