MY SEPTEMBER ROSE ||❉❥
Bentley’s feet felt too heavy, too hard against the flooring of the frat house and a part of her hopes it’s just the alcohol that has magnified the sound. She draws her hand lazily against the wall of the building in her attempt to find the exit. In her left hand, she haphazardly holds her black jacket and cellphone, nails digging into the materials as if they held her grounded. During the night, she’d swallowed an equivalent of nearly an entire bottle of vodka and at some point, she realized she had started pushing away the strangers grabbing at her and her friend when she would’ve been better off pushing away the shots. Yet, at some point, she’d learned only to agree, ‘yes’, to the clear liquid that cleaned her mind of any and all thoughts. Now, stumbling along the hallways of the house by herself, Bentley’s eyes captured Leila at the corner of the room despite that her line of vision was blurry. Her ex seemed to have drawn forth a pulse within Bentley and her palms pushed against the wall as every muscle was forced in Leila’s direction. How cliché, she considered in what was left of her sober mind, but her drunken stupor carried her where the sound of the music were silenced to mere vibrations and the two girls were trapped. As she reached the edge of the stairs, she dropped all of her belongings so that it sunk into the curve, to let her steady herself so that she was slightly stable enough to yank the heels that twisted her ankles from her petite feet. She dropped the chunky black shoes to the ground with an emphasized thunk. “Whoops-” Bentley breathed out, and even she could smell how heavily tainted her breath was. The girl reeked of liquor and if the smell didn’t give her away, her tipping forward did. She stumbled, and the thin material of her slip of a dress split up her thighs as she caught herself, giggling madly as she slumped against the tiled wall besides Leila. “Whoops-” she sighed again, sliding further down onto the floor, her legs at odd angles as she stared upwards.
Her eyes were wide and glossy, a common effect of liquor and her inebriation was only emphasized by how slick her smile was- Cherry red lips that pulled to reveal her teeth slowly. She had a sickening control over her expression- even as her gaze lazily on her ex girlfriend, “I can’t get back up,” Bentley laughed, and her entire body seemed to fold and bunch together, much like her clothing. Her bare legs seemed to glow in the dim lightening, a milky pale that was accentuated by the sheer black fabric that rubbed up her thighs as her arm rose forward in a sloppy manner. “Can you help me?”
