BABSGORDCN // GORDON, BARBARA.
she leaned into the touch in a nearly immediate reaction as she struggled to find the right words to explain. everything was going to hell, and it would be a lie to say she didn’t spend the last half hour on her shower floor sobbing while hot water stung against her wounds. she’d only just gotten dressed before he arrived, hair damp and christmas pajamas contradicting bruised skin. “if you think i look bad you should see the other guy.” she tried to quip, but her voice broke and her hands were shaking. “girl, actually. dinah… she was drinking and wanted to go out to patrol. i told her no. a lot of things were said and –– it just got really bad.” it was the best explanation she could offer, a cut and swollen lip trembling. “i’m really happy you’re here though.” and that was the truth of it, she would lean on him as she’d done before with no promise in return and it was selfish because she knew he wouldn’t deny her. she needed to do better than that, for him, to make sure she didn’t destroy another relationship with one of the most important people to her.
“babs...” a reprimand. the joke isn’t appreciated, clearly. he would’ve made the same joke if the situation was reversed, yet hates it when the joke slips out of her lips. he hates seeing the love of his life with purple bruises, a cut lip and puffy eyes from crying. she can handle herself, even better than he can, but the fear of losing someone he loves remains present. “dinah did this---” his fingers don’t leave her skin, but he looks over his shoulder, glances at the window he just walked in. leaving is never taken into consideration, but instincts tell him to search for black canary and avenge barbara. “do you want to talk about it?” he’s as cautious to his words as he is to his touch. slowly, his thumb runs along her lower lip, examining the cut, but careful to not touch it. “always,” he mutters, clutching her to him, pressing his lips to her temple, her cheek, the corner of her lips. he wants to heal her, if only he had such power.
