Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.

Timing is everything. That guy you meet at 18 would mean something different to you if you met him at 28.

I don’t know how to love without using my whole heart. I don’t know what its like to love someone ‘half way’. I practice giving love in the same way I’d like to receive it.
Reyna Biddy (via wordsnquotes)
This is how we will end: We will end like the last few inches of a candlestick — we will burn until the wax of what we had is exhausted, and we will be tired. Tired of keeping the fire alive, tired of trying to make the darkest rooms bright, tired of matchsticks that seem to think we are meant for one another. We will end like a book with plotholes — we will be incomplete. We will be unsatisfying. You and I will be the characters that missed their happy ending. Prepare for the critics, because we will not be written well enough. We will be a bad read, and we will keep the readers of the world waiting for something we have lost all hope for. We will end like a death on a hospital bed — the doctors will have tried everything they could. Our love was malignant, and we didn’t get the operation fast enough. The times I tried to breathe life into you are the times your lungs didn’t want to work. We will be too sick to be healed, and the flatline will indicate more than our time of death — it will indicate how we failed to stay alive. We will end like a cooking disaster — our ingredients will be rotten. We will miss a step in the recipe. Everything will be too sour for our liking, and I will end up thinking you never tasted right, even though your name was always my favorite to keep between my teeth. We will end like a broken record — we will sound wrong. We will be sung wrong. Instruments everywhere will try to create the music we need, but the lyrics of our story won’t be enough for the song. Our ending will be a bad tune stuck in our heads forever. We will end thinking we had forever to go — and we will end finding out that forever didn’t have a place for us. We will end as though we had a say in our ending. We will end better than the reality that we ended up in tears; that we ended up fighting; that we ended up trying to apologize; that we ended up hurting; that we ended up hating; that we ended up having the worst timing possible; that we ended up going to someone else; that we ended up in that someone else’s bed; that we ended up with how much “that didn’t mean anything”; that we ended up fighting some more; that we ended up admitting to each other how much everything wasn’t enough; that we ended up breaking it off; that we ended up not talking to each other. Instead of accepting these “real endings”, we will have an ending exaggerated into something unrealistic. We will have an ending with the hurt drugged by metaphors. We will have an ending we deserve. We will have an ending as great as how we began. Because my God, when we began, everything was beautiful. When we began, we were on fire — we set the biggest cities aflame, and I swear, we were criminals on the run for love arson. Our kisses trailed ashes on the road and our kerosene souls made everything burn. When we began, we were a bestseller — we kept people glued to our chapters. Even our authors couldn’t keep up with how much we were continuing. Our story was a page-turner, and we bookmarked every moment we wanted to look back on. When we began, we were the picture of health — we saw a long life ahead of us. We didn’t need medication to stay alive. Our heartbeats were for each other, and heartbreak was a disease we didn’t have insurance for — hell, we thought were immune. When we began, we were the best dish on the menu — we were sweet, like all the sugar in the world couldn’t compensate. Romance was our favorite flavor; intimacy was our secret spice. We were best served warm, and baby, we never got cold either. When we began, we were a last song syndrome — we were a song everybody wanted to hear over and over again. We were on top of the charts, and everybody had us memorized. Our genre was hip-hop and jazz and rap and pop and classical and rock and r&b and we still sounded right. We were stuck on repeat, and we never got sick of hearing our sound. When we began, we were happy. When we began, we were in paradise. When we began, we had the world in our hands — a world we shouldn’t have to lose to just “a bad ending”. So, this is how we will end: We will end whole. We will end in peace. We will end with our past reminding our present to be better. We will end looking for someone else to write our new beginnings. We will end with our beginnings behind us, but not forgotten. We will end well — because when we began, we didn’t think we would have to end at all.
