;; MY FRIEND / @rosridire
〚 ♘ 〛 EVER THE FAITHFUL KNIGHT, Diarmuid responded quickly to hearing his lord call his name. Halting in his steps, he turned, amber eyes scanning the streets to find Fionn. Spotting the Hero of Erin, he nearly returned the greeting before catching sight of the woman he had linked arms with. Who… was she?
As they approached, the LANCER almost instinctively moved to cover the mark upon his face before catching himself. There was no need to resort to such measures when the island seemed to have lessened the potency of the BLESSING / CURSE. ( If nothing else regarding his sealed powers, that much was a boon, at least. ) Among most he wouldn’t bother, but the last thing he wanted was to charm another woman whom his lord had expressed interest in.
It seemed however, that the other man’s enthusiasm was contagious, as Diarmuid felt himself chuckling in turn as the couple approached. ❝ My lord, ❞ he greeted with an earnest smile, ❝ it’s a pleasure, as always. ❞ For the blond to be in such a sincerely joyous mood was unusual. Fionn was a bit ECCENTRIC and wore a smile well, but the FIRST SPEAR had come to find it didn’t always meet his azure eyes.
Turning his attention towards the woman at Fionn’s side—likely the reason for this particular mood—the knight opened his mouth to give a proper greeting, before finding himself at a loss for words. Had he… seen her before? Diarmuid WRACKED his brain; she seemed so familiar. Had they met in life…?
❝ Forgive me, my good lady. My manners seem to have failed me, ❞ he apologized, expression somewhat sheepish. ❝ Perchance, have we met prior? ❞ He’d met her before, he was nigh certain of it. But at what point…? In his youth, perhaps? She had a beautiful and GENTLE face with such expressive, wide eyes, almost like a DOE’S…
—wait. Was this her…? Was that even POSSIBLE…??
≪✿≫ THERE WAS A genuine amusement in his own eyes at the confusion in the others – he knew it was unlikely that his fellow LANCER would recognize her immediately, though he didn’t doubt that he would get it. He was a clever fellow, though? The blond was curious at just how long it might take the other to figure it out. Inwardly, he begins counting a little… simply for his own curiosity.
“As always, my friend.” Fionn replies in turn, chuckling a little at the others expense. He was glad to see him – happy to reintroduce his wife to him. “Are you exploring the changes of the Island? I noticed it was snowing, and thought it might be nice for the two of us to get a walk in.” He explains, laughing a little. “Care to join us, while we talk? I’m curious to see if the cold is enough to freeze over that massive pond in the Cotes Ward.” Even now, nothing could stop that explorative nature of his. He needed to know.
And his wife couldn’t help but look over at Diarmuid and, very openly, roll her eyes at her husbands’ expanse. She thought him charming – but she also thought him silly. “I keep telling him it’s not going to be frozen over. It’s far to fair a snowfall.” She explains, and yet? The blond only smiles wider. He clearly didn’t care if he was right or wrong – he wanted to go about with her anyways.
However, when the handsome young man Fionn was speaking to turns his attention to her? Sadhbh stops for a moment, tilting her head ever-so-slightly in confusion. Truthfully, she felt like she recognized him as well – but…
Fionn laughs a little, clearly enjoying both of their confusion, as his inner counting continues.
“… if my husbands joy is any indicator? You’re likely right. It seems he’s decided to tease us both.” She pouts, looking over at the mischievous blond. “But, you’ll have to forgive me.” She continues, turning her attention back towards the darker-haired young man. Looking somewhat guilty – she just couldn’t place it. And she felt bad for forgetting one of her husbands dear friends… “I can’t… seem to place you.”
However, as he gets her name right, Fionn nods a little. Stopping his inner count in just under four minutes. Impressive. And Sadhbh smiles a little, though a tad bit more awkward. “… goodness. Now I truly feel awful. I still… I can’t place you, would you mind giving me your name again?” She couldn’t think this young man, about the same age as her husband, was the same youth who had tagged along with him from a young age. Their age had been a fair bit more varied in life, and now she was truly lost.
But, after a brief pause – her eyes brighten up. A soft “o” forming at her lips, when she recalls: “Wait, my dear… Fionn, you called him Diarmuid? This is young Diarmuid?” Help this poor woman, she is baffled.
