While we may not recognize it at the time of a traumatic event, life-changing suffering has a way of being an opening to a greater understanding of life. The “mud” and mess of our most painful experiences can become the fertile ground for the blossoming of our understanding and self-compassion.

Just because you bury something doesn’t mean that it stops existing.

As I look back on my life, I realize that every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better.

Happiness is when you feel good about yourself without needing everyone else’s approval.

Something my therapist taught me so I could learn how to feel proud of myself and my accomplishments. When you’re getting ready to go to sleep, ask yourself, “What have I done right today?”
Even if it’s something you consider “small” – saying hi to the pet, folding some socks, five minutes of exercise – that’s a victory for you to be proud of.
I’m proud of myself that I made nobake cookies. :)
Self-control is strength. Calmness is mastery. You have to get to the point where your mood doesn’t shift based on the insignificant actions of someone else. Don’t allow others to control the direction of your life. Don’t allow your emotions to overpower your intelligence.

The perfect day
In your 20s you’re worried about what everyone thinks of you. In your 30s you make it a point to not care what anyone thinks of you. In your 40s you realize that no one was thinking about you anyway.
Nothing worth doing is ever easy. Just hang in there and keep going.
Choose a path. Stay with your path. Be ready to face obstacles. Even if you take a wrong turn, at least it will be your turn, your life, your mistake.

Scared? Good. We don’t grow when we stay inside our comfort zone.

When people are ready they change. They never do it before then, and sometimes they die before they get around to it. You can’t make them change if they don’t want to, just like when they do want to, you can’t stop them.

The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.
