Anna: Oh wow, all the way up to Maine huh? I can find a way, promise. I mean.. I have my parents cars here still.. It’d be worth it. Adam, it doesn’t have to be Romantic. I just miss you. We could meet at McDonalds and I would still be the happiest person.
Anna: Love is an open door, we just have to keep it open.
Adam: And we will, we will keep it open, I promise. One way or another.

Anna: It’s been close to four months since .. the engagement and you had to go away. I am very thankful for New Years .. even if it was too quick.
Anna: I wish you knew how much that meant to me that you still think about me.
Anna: Okay.. do you want me to make a room reservation ? Or was there somewhere else you’d like to meet?
Adam: If you can make it, there is a small town in Maine I can get to on my way home. It isn’t a Romantic place but it’s better than the Kozy Kone. It’s sort of like a vacation.

She nodded and bit down on her lip, glancing at her phone’s dead screen. “I should probably find my charger then. Text Attina and tell her that I’m alive and well and all that jazz.” Ariel took a deep breath and nodded to herself before looking up at him and flashing him a genuine, if a bit off-kilter, smile. “Thank you. For talking me down, I mean. I’m sure you have people to talk to and stuff, I should let you get to it.”
“Yeah,” he said with a sigh, running a hand through his hair and down the back of his neck, “don’t freak your sister out, we don’t need her blowing up all over the place,” he was mildly intimidated by the eldest Atlantica...okay, it wasn’t mild. “Bonne Chance,” he said with a wave, walking off.

Anna smiled a little sniffling slightly as she held her phone close to her. It was the closest she was going to get to having her Adam with her.
Anna: I know you’re horrible at it. And times like these it makes things.. annoying. I still love you though!
Anna: I just.. It’s been four months Adam, and this is the second time we’ve spoke.. I just need small things like ‘i’m okay’ when it gets bad like this. I’m not asking for everyday.. just.. a little something here and there to keep me going.
Anna: Do you really.. I mean .. think about me all the time still? Even after being apart for so long?
Anna: Oh… okay.. Hey, hug your phone right now.. cause I’m probably hugging mine and you sound like you need know <3.
Anna: When you can escape.. maybe we can have a late Valentines Day? We’ve never been normal, why would we celebrate the holiday normally (:
Adam: It hasn’t been four months, we were together on New Years. Then again, I’m not sure that counts.
Adam: I do, I think about you all the time, it’s ridiculous.
Adam: I can see you on the nineteenth of March I think.

Closing her eyes she took in a deep breath. Rather she was hearing them, or reading them those three words still changed everything in an instant.
Anna: I love you too, Adam. And I miss you like crazy.
Anna: It’s just getting harder..
Anna: I just don’t want to turn into an inconvenience, or lose you. We should let the anger get to us like this.. at least not towards each other. Do you think you could sneak away anytime soon?
A warmth spread in his chest when she read that she loved him.
Adam: You aren’t the inconvenience, everything else is.
Adam: I’ve never been very good at opening up or reaching out in the first place and I’m sorry. I think about you all the time, I’m obsessed with you.
Adam: I can’t see us being able to see each other while there’s all this drama. When school starts back up in a week and a half.

Anna hugged the phone close to her. If she had only just kept her mouth shut they wouldn’t be fight. There were so many what if’s in her mind. Mostly what if he was seeing they weren’t going to be able to make this work out. Letting herself have a well needed cry till she fell asleep. The sound of her phone going off woke her up. Reading over the text her heart skipped. Truthfully she didn’t expect to hear from Adam . At least not for another few months it seemed.
Anna: I don’t want to fight.
Anna: I didn’t mean anything I said. I was just scared. I’m sorry
Anna: Please don’t be mad at me.
Anna: Don’t let me go.
He bit his lip, inhaling sharply, the back of his eyes stinging as tears threatened to form and fall. He hated this, he hated that he couldn’t speak to her.
Adam: I could never, I love you.
Adam: I’m scared too. All the time. None of this is easy.
Adam: I’m not mad at you, I’m just mad. This whole thing is bullshit. You aren’t the problem, everything else is.

Anna didn’t want to start crying but she did anyways and for a change she felt like she had nothing to say.
Anna: I want to be a part of your world Adam . I’m not saying text me when shit hits the fan, but when it’s over ? Yeah , I’ll be selfish and wish you would just tell me your okay when things aren’t life threatening.
Anna: I stare at a phone all day .. for practically four months. I understand this is a part of us that I need to remember but .. it’s so hard.
Anna: I’m so scared to hear from you cause I’m terrified you’re going to tell me you’ve given up , or that I should give up. Or that you’ve fallen out of love. And then things like this happen… she can be there for you . She was . And I.. I’m so useless and disconnected .
Anna: yeah .. sure. I’ll be here if you can . If not , night .
Anna debated leaving it at just that . But given she wasn’t sure when she’d hear from him again she slipped out another text through her messy fit.
Anna: I love you ..
He looked down at the phone, shaking his head bitterly. He couldn’t understand why she didn’t understand. His world was not a fairytale, it was a place on the edge of a Lovecraftian horror story, he was a Lovecraftian horror story and a ghost story all mixed up into one. He barely belonged in his world and he got the impression that with all the cataclysmic drama happening, this world was rejecting them as well. Then again, perhaps it wasn’t all that Lovecraftian, he’d always thought before that the power of magic made them untouchable by mere no-maj mortals but that didn’t seem to be the case anymore.
He put the phone away as he caught sight of someone looking at him too long. Later that night as he was holed up under his blankets he sent another text.
Adam: Hey

Anna flinched just from reading his words. Were they having their first fight? The girl knew it was just her frustration with everything being driven in the wrong direction, but she couldn’t help but reread over how he said his home and school… his.. It just stamped in her head that she didn’t really have a place in his world even more. Sighing she kept that to herself though.
Anna: You’re right.. I shouldn’t have gotten upset. Sorry.
Anna: I’m just glad you’re alright.
Anna: It’s okay if you meant it that way. You’re right.. I just.. don’t have a place in your world to understand.
Anna: Other things like her?
Anna: I should let you go then. In case Forte’s watching, or anything. I just wanted to be sure you were okay. I just .. needed to hear something from you.
Anna:Talk to you later? maybe? idk.
He shook his head...
Adam: You have every right to be upset. None of this is easy.
Adam: My world is overrated, I don’t think not having a place in it is the worst thing in the world. That was always going to be a part of us, remember? I told you from the very beginning.
Adam: I will try and text you again tonight.

Ariel shut her mouth as soon as he told her to stop talking, knowing he was right. She wasn’t doing herself any favors, and she needed to take a second and breathe. It upset her to think that this was the more favorable outcome when so many people were still hurt from the attack, but he was right. It could have been so much worse. She still had everyone accounted for, and that was something to be thankful for. “You’re right, I’m sorry, I don’t need to be worrying.” Repeating him helped a little. She would repeat it in her head like a mantra to help keep herself from going of again. “Do you think there was someone else on the inside? I thought with Tinley gone, things would get better.” It was a genuine question, not one to incite more panic, just something she’d been thinking about.
He shrugged, “maybe there was,” he said, “or maybe what she had told them was enough that they could get in without someone on the inside. Regardless, the powers that be will sort this all out,” he said, “stay close to your family and you’ll be safe.”

Anna didn’t mean to roll her eyes, but she did. And instantly cringed annoyed with her own self.
Anna: You can’t keep me shut out of everything, Adam. I deserved to know don’t you think?
Anna: You’re missing the point…
Anna: It’s bad enough you’re turning into a stranger, but to have to know you’re in danger from her? Is that how it’s going to be from here out? I wouldn’t have felt as useless if you just.. didn’t get the door shut in my face.
Anna: What about after? You couldn’t have sent a simple I’m okay?
Anna: You don’t need privacy to tell me you’re safe, Adam. You have no idea how worried I was, or does that even matter anymore?
He scowled at the phone
Adam: Do you think I don’t feel bad about this? That I don’t see how it’s fucked up?
Adam: I’m sorry for not being immediately concerned with your feelings while my school, my home was in danger.
He paused and took a deep breath, shaking his head at himself.
Adam: I didn’t mean it like that. I’m sorry. You’re always a priority but this time it wasn’t you who was freaking out or in danger.
Adam: And I do need privacy to text you. Forte is still watching or maybe he isn’t but considering what happened last time with him...not to mention the attention texting a no-maj will get me after our school was just attacked by no-majs.
Adam: I didn’t not text you because you don’t matter, other things just matter now too.

It was sort of surprising that Adam hugged her back, but she took it as a good sign that perhaps they were on their way to a comfortable friendship after all. She pulled back after a few more moments and looked up at him, her eyes wide with mortification. “Not as bad as it could have been? People died, Adam! I mean, yeah, we didn’t all get massacred, but is that really a good comparison?” Her voice was hardly above a whisper, not wanting to offend anyone that might have been walking by, but she was shaken up badly by the entire situation; she felt like her whole body was vibrating from the anxiety of it all. “And I didn’t hear from you again, I just worried. I know it’s stupid and you can take care of yourself and that no news was supposed to be good news, but I still didn’t like the idea of you locked somewhere like a sitting duck.”
“Stop talking,” he said, “you’re winding yourself up. It’s over now, we won.” He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, “yes, someone died but what they wanted was a lot more of us and this was when our security was at it’s weakest. Security is only going to get tighter and all the leaks plugged. We don’t need to be worrying, unless you want to worry abut the poor souls who made those leaks when they’re caught.”

It took Anna only a couple hours to talk herself into clicking the send button. Anna could only handle silence for so long, and nearly two months was too much for her. So she quickly clicked the send and tossed it across the bed. || @beast-i-am
Anna: I’m sorry to bother you, but .. are you okay?
Anna: I’d rather hear it from you than your fiance. I thought maybe I at least deserved that.
He winced when he got the text.
Adam: I hoped you wouldn’t have had to hear about that
Adam: It wasn’t devastating or it could have been worse
Adam: I didn’t want you to have to worry about something you couldn’t change.
Adam: Also, I didn’t have a lot of privacy while it was happening.
Ariel had been in a bit of a hysterical frenzy since the lockdown was over. She’d heard about the death of a student and needed to make sure it wasn’t anyone she knew. With her phone nearly dead, calling everyone was out of the question. So she was on foot, mentally ticking off names on her list.
When she spotted a friendly face, Ariel dropped her bag and ran down the hall at them, giving no warning as she wrapped herself around them in what was meant to be a bear hug but ended up as more of a tackle. “Oh thank Merlin you’re okay. I was so worried. I heard someone died and there were some really scary injuries and I still haven’t been able to find everyone and my phone is dead and I’m just so glad you’re here and you’re okay.” She was rambling, the hysteria starting to take over again, and she closed her mouth, forcing it back once more.
A smaller person would have been knocked over by the impact, but the redhead barely caused him to wobble. He sighed and rolled his eyes, hugging her back. It was only appropriate that he see if his fiance was okay. It would cause him problems if he didn’t and admittedly he was sort of fond of the Atlantica. “It’s going to be alright,” he grumbled, “all things considered, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.”

Aquata just stared at him for a few minutes. “You’re just going to sit in a bar…. thinking I need a designated sober person. I have Gaston on speed dial for a reason. Besides, You could probably use a drink more than anyone. Maybe crack out another laugh , yeah?” She said with a small smile. “As you can see, there is no one else for me to celebrate with right now. One drink won’t kill you, probably won’t even effect you.”
He groaned and threw his head back, “fine, one drink,” he said, ordering a whiskey, “but only because you went and guilted me into it.”

Aquata blinked looking up at him a few times. “Alright. That’s it - We’re gonna get a drink in you, and you’re gonna stop being a depressed, brick shit. If I can pick myself off the ground after Herc left me there - literately and emotionally.” She hiccuped and wobbled holding herself on his arm. “And my baby, you can too. What are you a whiskey guy? God, don’t say tequila.”
“Whiskey is fine, I don’t care much for tequila,” he said, “but I’d rather have neither right now, I’ll be your designated sober person I guess.”
aquataatlantica:
“Thank you! At least someone understands I’m a force of .. force of.. fuck it. You know what I’m saying.” She huffed taking back her drink. “Thank you! Are you drinking? Or just creepily hanging out in a bar? You should have a drink with me. Always wanted a brother, ya know? All girls has been kinda shit. So, thank god you’re not a complete tool.”
“It could have been worse, you could have had no sisters,” he said with a shrug.
After the lockdown mixed in with all the other spiraling emotions buzzing in her head Aquata had one solution, get drunk. Besides, it was her birthday - she could do as she pleased. “Happy Birthday to m- Excuse you?” she hiccuped out.
Adam watched someone put froth on the Atlantica’s nose and he actually chuckled, shaking his head. The person ran off, “probably the safest thing for him,” he said, “happy birthday.”
