He opens his eyes slowly, blinking rapidly until everything comes into focus. The wet asphalt shines like a mirror, reflecting the grey sky above, and it’s eerily quiet. Across from him looms an empty, dark Lime Street Railway Station. The city, gloomy and grey, smells like wet stone and exhaust fumes despite the obvious lack of vehicles. He’s alone. *** Paul's here. Not there. All of time is at his disposal, and he can do whatever he'd like. It is his afterlife, after all.

why i like this fic: it's such a beautifully written fic and the author's take on the afterlife is something i've never read before. It's unique and comforting and it honestly shifted my perspective on death and what comes after. I also love how the author characterizes each beatle; (and this honestly goes for all of their works tbh) how they talk and behave and their dynamics with each other that still remain the same even after decades spent apart.

Summary:

Mid-eighties. John and Paul are together. Paul is nervous about their new album coming out, and John soothes him using the tried and true method of combing his legs...

Why I like this fic:

this writer is so good at writing J/P middle-aged and old men love. This story is so warm and real and comforting---and the sensuality of the leg combing is to die for! John's POV. (And let's face it, we all want to see John alive and happy and dealing with his skittish man Paul like no one else can.)

Summary:

Late 60's. John meets Paul at a party and finds he's completely out of it on drugs. He takes Paul home and takes care of him. That's what happens on the surface, but there are many depth charges about them losing each other and missing each other...

Why I like this fic:

It's the epitome of Paul sick, Paul hurt, John crying, and I also love the writing. For the hurt/comfort theme of the month! (This one is a double hurt/comfort fic, with both John and Paul hurting, and finding relief.)

Fic rec: It's Alright

Summary:

Paul is sick with nerves and has a panic attack before the Shea stadium concert. John brings him back to earth.

Why I like this fic:

The descriptions of Paul's tension and panic and the whole insane situation at Shea are very good, and I could *feel* John's soothing tenderness. The theme of the month (hurt/comfort) reminded me of this story and made me go back to it and I was glad I did!

It's (literally) hot and unusual—an interesting, sensual take on 'sick fic' I never forgot! For the Paul sick, Paul hurt, Paul crying aka hurt/comfort month!

Fic: That Which Resembles the Grave but Isn't

Summary: An au where Linda isn't in the picture during the Beatles break-up and Paul falls for the trap the other three set for him at Klein's request in 1970, meaning he can't sue. Basically, Paul feels absolutely trapped and has to find his own way out of it. (Content warning: this fic includes depictions of a suicide attempt and the aftermath.)

Why I like this fic: The way the band's dynamic is written here is one of the best depictions I've ever read. It deals with incredibly heavy topics in a way that is sensitive without being out of character. It's an alternate universe that keeps all the messiness of 1970 (and in a few ways makes it worse) but the boys manage to patch it up in their own mischievous, brotherly way. I especially enjoyed the depiction of John in this fic as well as Paul's portrayal and internal monologue. It's very tender and charming and it's a great read if you want to get into your feelings while reading fanfic before bed. Also a great pick if you want to shit on Allen Klein. (FUCK Allen Klein!!!)

Why I like this fic:

Because it's based on one of the most important events in the Beatles calendar, and because it's got all my favourite versions of them - the-show-must-go-on Paul, sympathetic Ringo, sarky George, and of course protective, concerned and vulnerable John!

Fic: you never give me your money

Summary: alternate universe where Jim is significantly more violent than he was in reality and George Martin adopts Paul while Lennon/McCartney attempt very messily to sort out their feelings.

Why I Like It:

- It's in my favorite genre: break things enough that the characters are forced to fix them.

- it courageously tackles Paul's money/class issues which are not even close to discussed enough in fandom or scholarship

- it forced me to look at my own self-concept in a way that was actually a huge breakthrough for me

- the descriptions of emotion displayed through physicality are so incredibly real

- the dynamics between so many of the Beatles family are really taken seriously and given real time and attention to which is difficult to accomplish

- the mclennon of it all, while not the focus of the story, is so incredibly in character. There is so much love between those two and it really shines in the story

Why I like this fic:

This fic is all strange and tender and slightly surreal domestic vibes between the two of them. John and Paul when it's just them. Intimate and intense and dream-like.

Summary: "The U.S. '66 tour looms ahead, and John is shaken by an aggressive reporter at the airport. If it's a portent of what the tour has in store for them, then Paul won't let him face it alone."

Why i like it:

The prose. "As far as he was concerned, a crowd was a mob, and a mob by any other name was still out for blood." And "for a stretch of time everyone had refused to go gentle into that shit night."

Their connection. "Paul was right beside him, pushing between him and the microphone and all the hostile bodies. And as quickly as it had come, the panic was gone . . . . And there would always be another bastard with a microphone. A constant. But there was also Paul, settling into his seat and giving John a half-smile. It’s okay. It’s going to be okay."

The dialogue. "John, only if you want to…” Paul’s words melted into another sigh, rougher, shakier this time, like he was fighting it. [] "I always want to,” John said, as sure of his words as he’d ever been. Maybe I shouldn’t talk unless it’s to Paul. That might do the trick.

The smut. "Paul, John’s prick fully in his mouth and going deeper, eyes closed and watering at the corners, hand on his own cock and pumping so slowly it seemed to pain him. The thought that Paul could reach this level of desperation so soon after getting off just from having John in his mouth"
