Adding to this: to the people who will say “They’re not being racist about skin color, they’re taking their cultural backgrounds and simplifying/making fun of them!”

BULLSHIT.

They did that with pretty much EVERY OTHER DISNEY MOVIE EVER PRODUCED. The cultures have to be simplified otherwise it becomes too much for the CHILDREN watching the CHILDREN’S MOVIE to understand. I get that kids aren’t dumb, but if they put too much into making kids understand exactly what the cultures are like, then other things like the message, the characters and the overall writing will go to waste because there will be too much emphasis on “getting it right.” I mean, look at Mulan. That movie was downright disrespectful and inaccurate with Chinese culture (I mean having a dragon, a highly respected symbol and vital part of Chinese mythology and culture, as a comedy relief sidekick? C’mon.) But yet no one cares because it was a good ass movie. Maybe Frozen wasn’t as good as Mulan, but honestly there’s nothing different about any “racism” that’s different from any other Disney movie about any culture not well known by the audience it’s catering to: Americans.

TLDR; You can’t shove the entirety in of a culture down a kid’s throat in an hour and a half and expect the writing and characters and everything else to be amazing. Being culturally accurate would be awesome, but it’s something they just can’t do due to time constraints and RUINING THE PLOT OF THE STORY FROM TRYING TO GET EVERYTHING PERFECTLY ACCURATE.
