Women may be the major group affected by the cult of beauty, but they are not the only ones affected. Men are also subjected to misguided perception of beauty and expectations.

I ran across this photo on my dash the other day and actually had to stop scrolling and stare. There is so very much wrong with it.

Apparently the photo is supposed to be of a “sexy” model…

But if that poor woman tried to stand up straight, she would be the most hideous monster ever.

Her arms would be different lengths, her forearms would be comparable to an orangutan’s, she would probably have difficulty keeping her head upright. Because of the way they’ve messed with her waist, her torso wouldn’t be formed right. And I didn’t even get right in the drawing how huge her upper torso is compared to her butt and legs. Yikes.

The beauty industry, man. It’s messed up.

The media's portrayal of how a woman's body should look messes up the expectation levels of both male and female. This is a very powerful picture because it shows how the model would actually look if she stood up straight. Another picture that portrays the impossible body proportion is that of Barbie the toy.

I can't believe this kind of app actually exists. It basically forces you to look down at your imperfections, which in turn makes you feel inadequate about your natural beauty.

On their website, its "The Perfect Body'' slogan now reads "A Body For Every Body". But the campaign against the "body shaming" posters is far from over.
