His words may be snappy, he may sound bored when he speaks, or his seemingly lack of interest when you speak may hurt you. But his hands show how softly he loves you. He traces the shape of your face oh so gently. His fingertips lightly brush over the apple of your cheek, the bridge of your nose, the line of your jaw, and the shape of your lips. He silently marvels at how soft your skin is, at how warm you are. His fingers may end up in your hair, playing with the strands like it was second nature. Some may think he would tug on the strands to get a response out of you, but instead he tenderly rubs your scalp with the tips of his fingers.

He remembers small things you mention without a second thought. Like how you may prefer this color over that, or how you don’t like how this brand of clothing feels on your skin. After you mention such small things, you may notice how he begins to get you small gifts. Like how he got you a sweater that wasn’t scratchy and was instead soft, muttering how he “didn’t want to hear you complain about being uncomfortable” because, in his words, “it was annoying.” And yet, you soon noticed how the sweater was your favorite color.

He remembers what brand of lotion you prefer, or what hair products that you may use. Whenever you offhandedly mention how you ran out of something, a brand new bottle of lotion has suddenly appeared at your doorstep, neatly placed in a box with your name on it, making sure you knew that this gift was for you.

Some may assume that he’s rough with someone he may love. That he would be distant or ignore them so that they would chase after him. Instead, he can’t seem to keep his hands off of you. Whenever you’re both in a crowded room or hall, his hand always finds its way to your lower back, gently keeping you close to him. Whenever you’re hanging out at his dorm, he will have you resting in his lap, his chin resting comfortably on top of your head. His hands rest either on your hips or are wrapped around your midsection and resting on your stomach, his fingers occasionally flexing like he was making sure you were still there. His kisses are soft and lingering, his lips are warm as they press against your cheek, forehead, hands, or nose. Whenever you’re close, he can’t help but lean in and take in how you smell, the perfume that you used was now stocked up in his closet in case you ran out. And maybe, just maybe, he wants to smell a little like you too.
