What’s their “famous person” story?
When Beck was younger she auditioned for the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds tour and even got a callback but ultimately was considered too young to join the tour. But you'd better believe she brings this fun fact up as often as she can.
If they had to pick a single word to describe this year so far, what would it be? Do they have something special that picks them up when they feel down? What is it? Do they consider telling white lies to be okay? What have they been thinking about lately that has kept them up at night?
Beck's word for the year so far would be open. She's open to new business ideas, new creative endeavors, and open to any new experience. When she feels down, usually Beck just listens to some music and stretches to get back into her body and out of her head. She tells white lies on the daily without thinking much of it one way or the other. Lately, Beck's been thinking about how her older sister is doing and if she should be forming a five year plan now.
What smell always brings back some type of memory?
There's a very specific smell of old buildings that always reminds Beck of the ballet studio she grew up in. The slightly musty smell of old wood reminds her of days before she'd developed such a complicated relationship with the medium and she was simply content to learn.

“Best out of three?” Asher asked, wiggling his brows at his next opponent as the previous skulked away from the ping-pong table after losing miserably. “We can make even make it interesting. Loser pays the winners tab.”
"I'm cool either way," Beck replied with a small shrug, picking up a paddle and giving it a twirl. "I'm not really invested in winning this thing, but that guy by the bar --" Beck gestured to where the man in business casual attire was sipping scotch from a glass. "Is a consultant, and the third time he tried to explain to me what consultants do, I knew I had to get out of that conversation. So." She widened her stance, readying to play the game but not so completely focused that she couldn't stop and chat. "I think I already won by not having to ask about finance again? What's your drink of choice? I'll get one for you."
Although it wasn’t her main choice of establishment to head to whenever Cemre had free time; but she didn’t mind the atmosphere; there was something interesting about paying attention to people and how they would subtly change once alcohol would reach their system. And whenever it all felt too much to her, Cemre would simply leave and return back to her place. Now, she was enjoying her non-alcoholic drink and eating a few snacks, finding happiness in her own company until someone talking to her caught her attention. At first, Cemre chuckled, and wondered if someone ever talked about her mother like that. Oh, Cemre, let’s not go there.
Yet, she decided to partake in the conversation. “Well– I think I could find my way to flirt with Kehlani and have a good outcome from that. Either Kehlani or The Weeknd. I look a little bit like Bella Hadid, don’t I?” She was mostly joking, Cemre didn’t believe she looked like a model, but she could dream about having a chance with those singers. Why not? “But, hey– nice choices you had there! You’re beautiful so I don’t think you’re wrong about being able to get them.”
They could have said an Olsen twin, for all Beck would have minded, and she would have been happy with the response. It was a fun question because it revealed a person's taste. Not only about what they thought about other people, but what they thought of themselves, and how they based attraction. Beck grinned when the person next to her answered her question, and provided their own options of who they considered an attainable date. She wriggled to sit a little more comfortably in her seat and cocked her head to the side as she listened.
"Both excellent choices," she agreed with a nod. "I teach classes to both of their music." They were popular with her students and their catalogs were both varied enough to find something suitable for her various styles. "If you could only choose one though, do you think you'd be able to?" Her compliment caused Beck to pause as she was bringing her glass up to her mouth, and she rested her drink back on the bartop. "We are both hot ladies, let's be real. Any of these celebrities would be lucky to get with us."

Once upon a time, Vee’s mom had been in charge of everything that she ate. It was mostly fruits and veggies, plenty of proteins, and never soda. When she got to live with her dad for the first time, with no rink to go back to, she’d indulged and became obsessed with french fries. The greasier they were, the more she loved them and quickly she found herself ordering them wherever she went. Were the Tavern’s fries the absolute best? No, those came from Dalessandro’s. But the plate of handcuts in front of her were pretty decent, she couldn’t lie. Crunching down, she rolled her eyes at her friend. “First of all, you and every man-attracted human over the age of forty-five wants Harrison Ford and I just can’t wrap my head around it. Was it the whip?” Vee thought for a second before chewing again and squinting at Beck. “On an easiness scale, probably some known hoe about town, like John Mayer or Pete Davidson. If we’re talking like, with a little effort and some time on my hands, I stand firm that I could get Bradley Cooper and I already know my opening line.”
There was something liberating in the two of them allowing themselves to eat junk -- of course, Beck had always found a way to snack even when under her mother’s critical eye, but being able to go out with friends and not report to anyone was freeing in a way she’d never take for granted. It felt like a bit of a luxury to sit and eat greasy food with Vee. “Actually, I think it was the vest,” she replied with a grin. “In Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Maybe the chest hair, too.” She waggled her eyebrows for added effect. “He’s a man, you know what I’m saying?” Beck sat back and listened as Vee decided on her own celebrity, and snorted when she mentioned the ‘easy’ ones. “We are absolutely not counting those two because they are so easy,” she insisted, only to nod when Vee aimed a little higher. “Interesting choice! Okay, what would your opener be, then?”
Cory didn’t hang out at bars much, anymore. In years past they had been everything; her home, her church, her way of relaxing after a long day at the proverbial office. But when she left New York, she had also left behind her favorite habitual space. And for a while, she wouldn’t even step back in one, too fearful of slipping back in to old ways. But eventually she started to trust herself again, and bit by bit, she let herself back into the spaces she used to haunt, but this time, as a living, breathing girl. She liked the tavern, as it wasn’t a straight up bar, so it felt more neutral. It made it easier to let her guard down.
“I feel like you and Harrison Ford would make striking babies if you chose to do so,” Cory hummed, nodding unconsciously as she thought about it more. “Like, the ‘you have such an interesting face and I need to continue staring at it to figure out what about it is so interesting’ type of striking.” She finished with one last nod, this one more resolute, standing behind her comment, before taking a sip of her wine. “I think I could pull Hugh Dancy, but specifically in his Hannibal era. Not in his Ella Enchanted era, though. That distinction is important.”
She’d had more than ten years to get her party phase out of her system, and since hangovers always impacted her dancing ability, Beck learned quickly what her limits were and stuck to them. Oh, sure, there were times when she really let loose and then suffered for it the next day, but tonight was a casual affair, and she didn’t have any intention of continuing beyond this one drink. It was a way to unwind after the week of rehearsals she’d overseen, constantly reminding the students to point their feet and mind their spaghetti arms.
“You know what? I’ll take it. I’ll push them into child modeling, too, so they can really make the most of their features,” she said wryly. The likelihood of Beck having children was slim to none, and the odds of pushing her children into showbusiness were even slimmer. She hummed noncommittally when Cory decided on Hugh Dancy, recalling all the times she’d seen him on her television. “Oh, of course not. That movie might as well have never existed.” She had loved the book as a child and the movie had been so horrifically awful to her that she refused to ever watch it again. “What makes you choose him, out of everyone else?”

“Yo, pal, I need you to settle a debate for me,” he said, abandoning his post behind the counter as he settled in gracelessly beside the person he’d decided to corral into his argument. “Los Angeles, or New York? This kid on Twitter is all over my shit because I tweeted Cat Stevens lyrics last night – don’t come at me about it, the dispensary’s got a new supply and I underestimated the power of the right album in the wrong moment. And because he didn’t get it, I had to double down on saying New York is a shitty place, but I don’t know if it’s a shitty place, because the last time I was there was in 2007 and on a lot of drugs. And now the kid has backed me into a corner where I’m defending LA, like it’s not also shitty. I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here,” he said, extending his phone to display his very well thought out ‘Less rats 🐀’ response in a now twelve-reply deep argument. An argument that Tallahassee was so wrapped up in that he didn’t even consider the consequences of inadvertently letting another person have free reign of his Twitter account. Like it mattered, his last dozen tweets were either song lyrics (not his), or pictures of sandwiches (definitely his). “I can’t let him win. I’ve spent too much time on this to let…” he squinted over at the phone, immediately pulling a face. “Parttimekumdumpster24 – Jesus Christ – win.”
It didn’t take even a moment for Beck to already have formed an opinion. “New York, absolutely,” she said automatically, looking up as he crossed the floor, bringing his phone with him. “Los Angeles rests on a hellmouth. And everyone looks the same. At least New York is interesting.” She’d grown up in the city’s thrall, always hoping she’d one day be one of the Rockettes at Radio City or a ballerina on stage at Lincoln Center. Of course, those dreams had dissipated when she failed to measure up to the standards of the ballet, but she’d built her life in Philadelphia -- and as such, was now the greatest city in the world, to her. But New York was a solid second place. He continued to explain his predicament, and frowned when she realized he had taken the opposite stance. It would be hard to provide suitable help when she was at odds with him, too. But then -- “Part ... time ... kumdumpster?” She asked, eyebrows raised. “24? What, does he have a cartoon profile picture, too?” Beck rolled her eyes. What was it about internet drama that was so compelling? “Okay, the thing is. If you really want to knock him down off his high horse or whatever, you basically have to make fun of him and not his opinion. Tell him he talks like someone who doesn’t shower, or something. Tell him he’s stale like Nicki or whatever the stan people are saying these days.”

Dilara picks up her glass and takes a sip of it. She turns her head to look over at Beck as she sets it back down, tilting her head to the side as she arches a brow up when the other mentions she has a question. She leans back against the chair she’s sitting in as she listens to Beck’s words, a small chuckle leaving her as she nods her head, raising her hand to point her index finger at her. “Harrison Ford would be crazy to turn you down so I could see it.” She presses her lips together as she sets her hands down on her lap as she shrugs her shoulders. Her confidence hadn’t exactly been great since she found out about her ex having a fiance and was using her as the side piece so it was hard to imagine that she would be able to pull a celebrity. “I don’t know if I’d be able to pull but I’ve always had heart eyes for David Boreanaz that man doesn’t look like he has aged a single day.”
“Here’s the thing,” she said casually, barely holding back her response until Dilara was finished speaking. “Even famous men are still just ... men,” she finished, the expression on her face clearly conveying that she didn’t exactly hold men in high esteem. All that was missing was her tongue sticking out, truly. “I don’t think many celebrities are much more difficult to flirt with than the average finance bro that comes in for Thirsty Thursday.” Beck drawled out the last words, mocking the way that particular type of men tended to act. Ironically, her bordering-on-disdain for men tended to be interpreted as confidence -- which helped on the occasion she did have any interest in hooking up with someone. “I’m just saying, it’s probably easier than you think to win over David Boreanaz.” She took another sip of her drink. “Aw man, he was the shit as Angel, wasn’t he? My sister had his poster in her room.”

In a rare form, Jocelyn chose to use one of her busier nights as a night off. Not that she wanted to miss the interactions with her own customer base but it was a well-deserved and much needed night away from work. Her drink had warmed up some time ago but she hadn’t actually noticed that even the condensation was starting to disappear. Her mind was elsewhere and the only thing that managed to stir her out of her thoughts was the bartender who came to check on her fairly regularly. A slightly more welcome distraction to the worries deep in the back of her mind.
Jocelyn raised both eyebrows, taking a quick glance to make sure it was her being addressed and not another person. She remained silent, taking a moment to let it all process before letting out laugh. The question itself was going to make her think but the answer was the icing on the cake. “I mean, the 60s didn’t fall of right away in the 70s so I’m pretty sure it could have been a huge possibility, no questions asked.” Jocelyn reached for her glass and took a long drink from it, her face twisting into one of displeasure once she realized that it had warmed up almost too much. “Realistically? Colin Farrell. I just get the feeling he’s down for a random hook up in a seedy back alley. Right time, right place and no questions asked? Morris Chesnut. Most people celebrate New Years Day, I celebrate being alive in the same lifetime as that man.” Jocelyn let out a wistful sigh, finishing off her drink and pushing it further in front of her.
“I think we have to also take into account two important points,” Beck replied easily, relieved that the person talking to her was as game for the topic as she was. “One, I’m hot and flexible. Two,” she added, shoving another chip into her mouth, “I have a feeling that Harrison and Carrie would have been up for a lot in their prime.” She gave a small shrug, as if to give the impression she hadn’t spent a considerable amount of time thinking about this exact scenario she was now describing.
Beck tilted her head to the side, and took another sip from her drink, and pursed her lips as she considered the celebrities the other person listed. “Both incredibly solid choices,” Beck said thoughtfully. “Colin Farrell really does give off that vibe! I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play someone boring or vanilla, that’s for sure.” Maybe it was an unfortunate typecasting, or maybe it was art reflecting life. Either way, it wasn’t her fantasy, so Beck accepted the logic. “I gotta be honest, of the Morrises, I prefer Day,” she said after a beat. “But Chestnut definitely has that something. I get it.” She shifted in her seat yet again, and she looked at the other woman with a glint in her eye. “Okay. So -- follow up question. If you had to choose between the two of them, who would it be? Nothing happens to the other one, but you lose your chance with him forever.”

Whether one called it a pitiful use of time, an escape from the loneliness of an empty, albeit cramped, apartment, or just a regular Saturday evening, Beck found herself once more at her regular haunt of the Fishtown Tavern, nursing her usual whiskey ginger, now and then taking one of the chips she’d ordered. With each one, she’d tell herself that a healthier diet began tomorrow, that she’d rise early and buy a goddamn vegetable for once, but it was the present moment, and right now she had these chips -- and, really, it was practically a potato, which had nearly every vitamin she needed, right?
“So, here’s a question,” she asked, after taking a swill from her glass and turning to face the person next to her more fully. “Which celebrity, no matter their status or whatever, do you think you could pull? Because,” she added after a moment, picking up yet another house-made chip and holding it in midair, as if to emphasize the point she was about to make. “For me? I really think I could pull Harrison Ford. At any age.” Maybe it was cocky, or overly confident, but that was the point of a question like this, wasn’t it? “I really think if I was around in the 70s I could’ve talked him and Carrie into a threesome.”

(tw: narcissism, abuse) this is beck haddon! she is 33 and the co-director of Xpressions Dance Studio in the city. she grew up training to eventually be a ballerina but bc of her mother (and a little bit the ballet world in general) had a breakdown at 17/18 and moved in with her sister who she views as a saint and her favorite person in the entire world. she performs with a contemporary dance troupe as well and when she isn’t working is usually giving fleabag a run for her money. she’s definitely a girl’s girl but does enjoy meeting new people and dazzling them with her snark. she went no contact with her mother and now is torn whether she should reconnect due to illness. would ADORE friends, neighbors, or ….
