author's note: I'M SO SORRY! I want you to know that this is genuinely the nicest thing that's ever been said to me and I know this is months late but the end of fall semester killed me so I haven't been doing like any writing. ANYWAY, I hope you like it!

Waking up from your nap on the couch, you’re met with a figure looming over you and a weight on your chest. The weight was a white fluffy mass curled up almost on your face, obviously Princess. The figure wasn't hard to figure out either as he begin to speak.
“It is midday, why are you resting?” Damian practically scolds but you don’t take him very seriously as you sit up, gently displacing the feline as she hisses and prances away.
“I have the day off and I’m tired,” You answer simply as your eyes glance to the clock in the corner of your living room, “Aren’t you supposed to be at school?”
“Classes have ceased,”
“It’s 2 in the afternoon,” You rebut, “And Gotham Academy is across the city.”
“Irrelevant,”
“Jason isn’t home,” You comment with a yawn, “At least, I don’t think he is.”
“You think I don’t know that?” He scoffs, “I am well aware of my brother’s location. I was expecting you when I arrived.”
“That’s sweet, Dami’” You smile, watching how he crosses his arms, barely meeting your eyes. “Is something going on?” You move a little to the left on the couch and pat the cushion next to you, gently encouraging him forward. He takes the seat but leaves a good eight inches between the two of you.
“My peers are not to the standards I have set. They are immature, uneducated, and do not respect their superiors,” He insults as you tilt your head at the comment, deciphering the ‘I’m better than everyone’ front Damian puts on.
“Damian...” You start, keeping your tone soft as you know he might get defensive. “Are your classmates being mean?”
“Nonsense, getting upset at comments from those children is beneath me,”
“So, are they talking about you?”
Damian pauses at the comment, not enjoying that he let his situation slip, “Obviously, the Wayne name is revered,”
“Of course...” You agree quietly, nodding along as he clearly doesn't want to really talk about it at this point in time.
“...Todd has said that you’re affectionate,” He mentions dryly and he glances at you, trying to be subtle as he’s totally not hinting at anything.
“Would you like a hug, Damian?” You ask, opening your arms for him. Damian scoffs at the offer but leans into you, his are tentatively wrapping around you. Your arms wrap around him gently and give him a soft squeeze while he relaxes into your touch and you rest your head atop of his.
The two of you sit together on the couch and he leans into you more. You start to loosen your arms around him only for a moment and he tightens his arms around your waist.
“Don’t leave...” He mutters into your chest and you sigh, gently petting down his dark hair.
“I would never leave,” You reassure him, keeping your voice soft as you squeeze him again. You wince a little as you notice the afternoon sun rays landing in your eyes. “Hey,” you start again with an offer, “You could join me for another nap before dinner?”
“That feels as though it would ruin my sleep schedule,”
“You’re already going to be up all night fighting crime. Shouldn’t you rest up for that?” You comment, offering a different view of the situation.
“Tt,” He scoffs, “What are you making for the meal?” Damian asks as he looks up at you.
“You’re the guest so you can pick. Jason and I didn’t have any plans.”
“We are having the pasta you made previously,” He states.
You laugh quiety at the stern command, “The Mediterranean pasta? Yeah, we can do that.” He just nods at the agreement happy with the future meal. You gently let him go as you lay back on the couch again, moving over to where your back is pressed to the back cushions of the couch.
Damian lays down in your arms, his head resting against your bicep as he wraps his arms around your middle again as he becomes more comfortable with your protective touch. You fall asleep first due to your already tired state but Damian follows quickly after, dozing off in your arms.
Jason arrives home around 2 hours later, being greeted by a suspiciously quiet home and a certain child’s shoes and school bag left at the door with his partner’s footwear. He slips off his own shoes and creeps down the hallway and into the living room as he looks over the back of the couch. A soft sigh escapes his lips as he takes in the sight.
You’re laying on the couch, very peacefully asleep with Damian nuzzled into your chest and a white ball of fluff laying between the two of you and the pitbull curled up at your feet. Jason rolls his eyes in a playful manner, taking the blanket from the back of the couch and covering the cuddle pile.
He leans down and presses a soft kiss to your forehead and pats Damian’s head before going back into the bedroom to clean himself up for the night.

Now, I was wondering (if you had time ofc) if you’d be willing to kinda “add” on to the 16 year old scientist story, but this time ah e the kid interact with the other characters.? Kinda like how they’d act around Yáo, IIyukhina and Grace ofc. Or if you’re willing Rocky and Adrian (even though we don’t meet Adrian but yk). Project Hail mary x Gn!Teen!Reader
✶ How different characters from phm would interact with you ✶
You and Grace end up working together more than almost anyone else on the project. He's a teacher, you're sixteen, and somehow conversations between you two just.. work. One question about astrophage somehow turns into discussions about extremophiles, then dinosaurs, then black holes, then why middle-schoolers eat glue.
You both get sidetracked constantly. Scientists will walk by and find the two of you standing at a whiteboard discussing something completely unrelated to what you were originally researching.
Grace never talks down to you. He explains things if you ask, but he treats your ideas seriously and genuinely enjoys hearing your thought process, even if it's chaotic.
He's one of the few people who notices when you're spiraling into hyperfixation. If you've been working for eight hours straight and haven't moved from your desk, he'll quietly drop off food and remind you that your brain still requires maintenance.
The two of you work late together often. Sometimes neither of you notices it's three in the morning until Carl walks in looking deeply disappointed.
You both talk so much that silences are rare. One of you always has a question, an idea, or a random fact to share. Neither of you seems to mind.
Out of everyone on the project, Grace probably understands you the best. He's taught kids almost his entire adult life. He recognizes the frustration when something doesn't click, the excitement when something does, and the fear of losing interest in something you finally love.
✶ Eva Stratt
Stratt never treats you like a child, which is honestly both flattering and mildly terrifying.
She gives you real work because she trusts your abilities, not because she's trying to encourage you. If she assigns you something, it's because she believes you can do it.
She has an almost unsettling ability to notice when you're exhausted, overwhelmed, or on the verge of burnout despite rarely showing much emotion herself.
Although she rarely praises people, she pays attention to your interests and strengths and tends to assign tasks that keep you engaged rather than giving you repetitive work.
She quietly becomes protective of your time. If someone is wasting your effort on meaningless tasks, she'll redirect you elsewhere.
The older scientists occasionally forget you're sixteen. Stratt never forgets. She simply doesn't think it changes much.
She trusts your curiosity. Even if one of your theories sounds strange, she'll hear you out because she's learned that your odd questions often lead somewhere useful.
✶ Yáo Li-Jie
He often tells you stories of when he used to be in the military, and you adore listening to them. He has such a way of explaining things calmly and thoroughly, and you end up following him around the facility sometimes just to hear more.
Yáo is patient in a way you don't encounter often. He never seems annoyed when you ask fifty questions in a row.
He's very good at noticing when you're frustrated with yourself. He doesn't try to force solutions, he simply sits down and tries to help you as much as he can, even if he's got no idea of what you're doing.
Out of everyone on the project, he's probably the best at slowing your thoughts down when they're moving too quickly.
He respects your intelligence but also remembers that you're still growing up. He occasionally checks in on how you're handling everything, especially when the project becomes stressful.
You often end up helping him with calculations or discussing theories while he's working on his own problems. Neither of you minds the company.
If you're joining the Hail Mary mission, Yáo sees you as another crew member first and foremost. He trusts you to do your part and treats you like an equal.
✶ Olesya Ilyukhina
Ilyukhina finds your enthusiasm entertaining from day one. She likes watching you get excited over tiny discoveries because most scientists on the project are stressed and serious all the time.
She has a teasing sense of humor and enjoys gently poking fun at how quickly your attention can jump from one subject to another.
She's surprisingly good at getting you to take breaks. Somehow, when she tells you to step away from your work for ten minutes, you actually do it.
You occasionally help her with calculations or theories related to engineering problems, and she genuinely enjoys those sessions because you approach issues differently than most people.
She likes hearing about your strange theories, even if she doesn't necessarily agree with them.
She's one of the first people to notice how hard you are on yourself when you make mistakes and makes an effort to reassure you that science involves being wrong a lot.
During the mission, she becomes one of your biggest supporters. She trusts your intelligence and likes having another curious person around.
✶ Carl
Carl's entire job somehow turns into preventing you and Grace from accidentally working yourselves into the ground.
He regularly discovers the two of you asleep on desks, buried under papers, or so absorbed in your work that you've forgotten basic necessities like food and water.
At first he sees you as a kid who shouldn't be anywhere near a world-ending project. Over time, he begins respecting your abilities and takes his responsibility of keeping you safe very seriously.
He's incredibly observant and usually notices when you're stressed long before you say anything.
He becomes weirdly accustomed to your presence. If he walks into a room and you're not where he expected you to be, he briefly wonders where you've wandered off to.
He doesn't understand most of your scientific discussions, but he listens anyway because your enthusiasm is infectious.
You and Grace become his two favorite headaches. He'd never admit it aloud, but by the time the mission starts, he genuinely cares about both of you.
✶ Rocky
The second you meet Rocky on the Hail Mary, the two of you immediately start asking each other questions, well, thats after Grace fixed the translator thingy.
He absolutely loves how curious you are. Every strange idea leads to another discussion, another theory, another experiment.
The fact that your thoughts jump quickly from topic to topic doesn't bother him at all. If anything, he keeps up surprisingly well.
You and Rocky can spend hours discussing scientific concepts, alternate possibilities, and weird hypothetical questions without getting bored.
Rocky loves that you enjoy learning for the sake of learning. To him, curiosity is one of the best traits a Eridian (or human) can have.
He quickly learns your habits and notices when you're upset, frustrated, or overthinking.
Grace eventually finds himself watching you and Rocky excitedly discussing something incomprehensible in multiple languages and realizes he somehow has two science-loving chaos gremlins on the ship.
✶ Adrian
Meeting Adrian on Erid is almost jarring because they're so calm compared to Rocky's energy.
they're a wonderful listener and never seems bothered by long explanations or excited rambling.
Adrian remembers small details about you surprisingly well, especially things you've mentioned only once.
They have a thoughtful, gentle personality and creates a sense of calm that makes it easy to relax around him.
They enjoys hearing about Earth and your theories because he finds your perspective fascinating.
If you're overwhelmed, they don't push you to talk. They're perfectly comfortable simply sitting beside you until you're ready.
Out of all the Eridians, Adrian probably understands your tendency to lose yourself in your interests the quickest. They see your passion for learning as something beautiful rather than something that needs fixing.
Before we continue, and as you probably saw in my pp, I wanted to share my redraw of the Night Fury (here, Toothless)!
He's adorable, no problem there, but I realized he was too different from the other dragons 🤔. To the point where I wondered if you took someone unfamiliar with HTTYD and presented Toothless separately from the others, would they realize they were from the same franchise? So I added a few details that, without changing the dragon itself, immediately make it all the difference. What do you think? :3
alright, i'll be the one to say it. ao3 and tumblr becoming "mainstream" did so much damage to the community and the writers. i have seen loads of videos and posts about:
1. people hating on writers and fics. writing is something we do for free and for fun. if you stumble upon a fanfic that isn't necessarily your cup of tea or you just don't like, scroll. dont read it. literally leave their page. you don't know if this could be the author's first work that they're so excited about, you dont know if the language they're writing in isn't their first language, you dont know that the writer could be a literal teen and loads of other reasons. fanfictions don't HAVE to be perfect. you write what you want to write because we do it for fun and enjoyment and we want to share that to the world. seriously, what is the wrong with that?..
2. x reader consumers getting WAY too entitled. the number of tiktoks i've seen that say "i run a strict program when it comes to reading fanfics." girl you aint running shit. this is FAN FICTION you're reading. F A N F I C T I O N. there is no denying that most fanfiction writes are beyond talented but just because you read one fanfic that exceeds your expectations doesn't give you the right to talk down on others that don't. people have their own personal writing style, their way of doing things and you talking shit on that isn't right.
at the end of the day, we are all humans, reading and writing is what we do and what we're meant to do. and for you to talk shit about a person WRITING is so insane. we are humans. not some robots that you can tell what to do so you can consume it.
i've seen so so many authors take down their fanfics and losing all motivation to write because of a hate comment. DONT LIKE DONT READ‼️
