Honestly, it's like picking up a book and saying "I know all these words, I can type, I could have written this" like there's no middle step between the technical ability and the finished work.

It's saying "I could write this exact book" while holding a copy of the book in your hand. Like yeah shit you could, it's substantially easier to copy words that are already there than to create something from nothing.

I had an "I could do that!" Moment once, and it honestly changed the direction of my life.

I had dropped out of college for the second time, was profoundly depressed, and not sure what I was going to do with my life. My mom took me to an exhibition of the Denver Botanical Gardens' Botanical Illustration program.

It was a color-pencil-on-acrylic drawing of a Witches Broom plant, and I remember suddenly realizing that wait. I know how to do that. I know how to make those marks, how to layer those colors. I could do this.

I could make something good enough to hang in a gallery.

-And that changed things for me. Yeah, actually, I wasn't a total failure, I COULD do that and in fact I think I will. I signed up for the program, got my accreditation as a scientific illustrator, and my fucking dignity back. I even got to take classes from the woman who drew that Witches Broom.

All this is to say: Actually, go in to galleries and see if there is something you think you could do.

Then go do it.

You might find out that the threshold to getting your work shown/published is entirely within your skill level, or (like me) it's something you will get to learn so much more about, or you will wander into a completely different art form but literally whatever happens your life will be richer for it.

Imagine how kickass if the lady in the original post decided to do what Klein actually said did, and we all got a brand new pigment and painting technique out of it. You think you can do that? Good! Go do it! It'll kick ass!!

Like yeah, we all know that there's a lot of people who are all talk, but I am here to encourage you all who ever looked at something and thought '...I actually think I can do this?' to GO FUCKING DO IT IT WILL BE SO FUCKING COOL!!!

Maybe this might be a controversial take but if you attack someone who says they enjoy stuff a big corporation puts out instead of complaining about how they should do more or add stuff that you specifically want, it feels a little redundant

Like if someone said they liked the newer Minecraft updates and don't get the hate, and you reply "SO YOURE DEFENDING THE BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY FOR DOING THE BARE MINIMUM" you're being an ass, yeah they could definitely do more but also it's definitely not the bare minimum, the bare minimum is keeping the game alive but essentially dead update wise, maybe bug fixes here or there but other than that, nothing is the minimum they could do

I get that big companies should strive for consumer benefit and the such, and adding highly requested features to a game is like the BEST way to do that, but also complaining every chance you get about not getting the end update or new survival stuff (which we have gotten btw you litterally just have to go out of your way to explore and challenge yourself instead of going on a linear path to the end, there's other things to do you just refuse to look I fear) is pointless, if you're honestly that pressed about vanilla not being exactly how you want it to be, mod the game? Play a game with the stuff you want? "But I want to play Minecraft" No! You don't! You want to play an idealised version of Minecraft, one with every feature and update you want, which 90% of the stuff people ask for exist as mods and add-ons for both bedrock and java (bedrock I can see an issue with because of the dreaded, devious micro transactions) it's usually never that hard! This logic also applies to like any video game ever made by a non-indie company, would it be nice to get more community suggestion stuff in the games we play? Fuck yeah, I'm all for that, but I think it shouldn't come at the cost of constant harassment against others in the community for liking what they like or flooding everything related to it with "this billion dollar corporation sucks ass and if you enjoy the stuff they make you're just defending pure slop" is stupid and weird!!!

Tl:Dr the "big corporation bad" mindset is flawed because people refuse to treat each other decently

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

My little brother insisted if I was going to post about him, he wanted a cut of the "profits". When I explained to him that Tumblr isn't monetized, and is pretty pointless, he and my older brother pointed out that he'd still be bringing me "fame and notoriety" if the post got "big". So we agreed, if the post hit 10k notes, which seemed extremely farfetched and silly at the time, I'd take my little brother out for sushi (his favorite food) and let him eat as much as he wants.

I guess God wanted the little robot to enjoy some sushi 🍣 🥲
