Expectations of masculinity are fucked up cause they’re pretty archaic in origin with man being “the protector” and the “bread-winner” in a tribal mindset which doesn’t allow room for weakness which is why things like being short or expressing feelings is mocked as not being manly and leads to all sorts of self-esteem related issues and mental issues going unaddressed due to the stigma attached to men talking about them. This influence of these expectations extend to the point of influencing a man to buy a black shower gel bottle instead of a bright pink one simply because everyone else around him has had the same expectations drilled into them and thus there is a risk they might see him as not being “manly” due to buying a pink one and thus cause them to treat him differently. It’s a bit shit that the influence of those expectations are so inescapable and perpetuated (by both men and women) simply because it’s what everyone is used to and the resulting damage it does to self esteem and mental well-being is incalculable because men won’t talk about their feelings due to aforementioned expectations.
^ That strikes me as a more constructive commentary on it than: “LEL HE BUY HTE MAAAAN BOTTLE HTE MASCOOLUNITY IS SO FRAGILE, LEL MEN ARE WEAK AMIRITE LAYDAYS XD”
>proceeds to dress in the most conventionally female manner and buy goods marketed towards women
The battle of Verdun was fought between 21 February and 18 December 1916, during the First World War, and was basically a meat grinder for the french and german troops. It is estimated that about 700 000 soldiers died during these months, and as grenades exploded human remains resurfaced after having been covered in mud. Mud-pits filled with liquid ooze covered large parts of the land, and soldiers that fell into one, would often drown. Not many soldiers saw the enemy troops, and just experienced artillery fire, and soldiers on both sides saw Verdun as hell.
*is completely disassociated/numb af in social situations*: oh shit I need to start faking some emotion or I'm going to freak everyone out lmao
