Listen Daniel’s involvement with the Stargate program makes total sense but also it’s so funny to think about him being part of a field team. Like “hi we’re SG-1, arguably the most famous warriors in the galaxy. Our team consists of a war vet, an Air Force captain, a high ranking rebel of the people we’re fighting, oh and also we gave this archaeologist a gun.”
I made this piece for my husband. He taught me how to play magic the gathering and I cant afford to get him a black lotus 🪷 but i could make him one. I still need to add a frame but for making my own pattern and first complicated pattern, I quite proud. I wonder if I should make another one to sell? #stainedglass #artwork #mtg #blacklotus #stainglass #handmade #handmadecrafts #decor #present (at O'Fallon, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqB6_PPpGRd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Took about two hours but most of that blasted pink paint is off the wood dresser. Perhaps tomorrow a good mineral scrub and the wood will be beautiful again! #antique #furnituremakeover #furniture #vintage (at Lake Saint Louis, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSSazvEJimA/?utm_medium=tumblr
Newly purchased dresser. Sadly this solid wooden girl was painted over but I think I can fix that and use it as a good dresser in the master bedroom. Found it at the antique mall in Saint Charles Missouri. Some paint was just coming off with my nail. Tomorrow a trip to Home Depot for some paint stripper and a scrapper. #antique #referb #referbishedfurniture #furniture #antiquefurniture #homedecor #ideas #woodenfurniture #craft #fixerupper (at O'Fallon, Missouri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRNhlTYJBDb/?utm_medium=tumblr
Interrupting my most popular blog for one minute with something important for my fellow US peeps:
Who else in the USA would be interested in a spreadsheet organized by state & hospital that lists each hospital’s no-insurance, out-of-pocket costs for common procedures?
Because we could make that. We could literally crowdsource this info and put it together as a common resource.
Hospitals have tools online that list out those costs, but they are terrible. Absolutely fucking terrible and time-consuming to compare with other hospitals, which is absolutely on purpose.
But! if people filled this out together, everybody doing a little bit (like when you yourself are looking something up), we could make a communal resource that helps people in the USA compare costs for procedures between hospitals.
Here’s an example I made comparing the same procedure at 2 different hospitals in Oregon:
in case that’s hard to see, here’s just the costs:
that’s terrible!
imagine not knowing you had a choice that could save you $300!
we can make something better for each other, because our corrupt, for-profit capitalist healthcare system ain’t gonna do it for us!
Anyway, here’s the spreadsheet.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is CURRENTLY tallying calls asking for confirmation to be delayed until after the election. I just called; it took 15 seconds. CALL: 202-224-5225. If you are outraged that they are ramming through a Supreme Court justice although millions of people have ALREADY voted for who they want to select that justice, please take 15 seconds RIGHT NOW and call to say that you want to DELAY any selection.

“we were born wrong”
I’m thinking about going missing
i never want context
Oh my god, they sprang this on us in our old church years ago, and my family has never let this joke die.
Okay, here’s the stupid gender essentialist metaphor:
Women are like spaghetti because their thoughts noodle all over the place. Men are like waffles because there thoughts are in boxes. Men aren’t bad listeners, they just can’t keep up with a conversation when women are noodling topics so fast and they have to keep switching boxes. Also, when a woman asks a man what he’s thinking and he says “nothing” women just don’t understand that some of a man’s boxes literally have nothing in them, haha!
….. :|
Anyway, if you think me and my brothers and my mom don’t constantly give each other sad, tragic faces and say “I’m sorry, my waffle box is empty today” and “noodle faster!” and “you are failing at being a waffle” and “I can’t be clearer, I am a plate of spaghetti” pretty much indiscriminately in all directions all the time…. you would be wrong.
Occasionally the context of a Dadaist post makes it even better.
Whatthehickityheck
So my sister wants to start sewing more, because
a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.
b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton
c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance
So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.
And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’
And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this
“Where did u get all this”
“Bets, u know I’m a 15th degree blackbelt of buying shit on the internet”
“oh yeah tru”
Op can may we inquire about the website list

Wool. You want wool coating for under $20 a yard? Sure you do. It’s here. Not a huge variety of colors, most are black or brown, but hey https://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/Catalog?refinementIds=4096748&Keyword=wool&pageSize=16
A short comic I made. Enjoy! ❤️
EDIT: I put the pages in the correct order because this hellsite decided to reorder them for me. :)
I wanna hear these Opinions on steampunk color palettes, if you’re willing.
tbh “the Victorians did not go to the trouble of inventing aniline dyes so that we could wear neutrals” mostly covers it?
they went to a lot of effort to bring affordable screaming bright fuchsias and acid greens into the world, and we should honor their tacky, tacky choices.
let’s not forget the tacky patterns, too
oh yeah
oh fuck yeah
(TELL ME that last one isn’t a steampunk look. just try and tell me)
yes! thank you, these are EXACTLY what i meant. tomorrow I’ll take a picture of the bafflingly tacky goldenrod-and-maroon gown I’ve got at the shop
also
this is wise, and correct.
This is 100% true.
Oh no, no those are tasteful compared to what wild color shenanigans the 19th century got up to. Most of them being mid-century are only ~2 colors excepting the plaid. By the 1890s, five colors per dress was the fashion. They…didn’t all coordinate the way we would.
PUMPKIN WORTH
I have seen mid-century dresses in electric blue. Barbie pink
Black with photo-realistic brocade oranges. Royal purple with GIANT POLKA DOTS.
Hey hey did you know lime green and lavender was a favorite color combo in 1895?
This one is not so much tacky as…vibrant
Okay at ~1903 it’s not really Victorian but I love the melting ice cream explosion look of it
This dress has faded but it would have originally been a quite eye-catching shade of violet.
Not that past eras were any less fond of colors even if they weren’t artificial dyes. I’ve seen canary yellow Regency dresses and an 18th century man’s coat in turquoise velvet printed with leopard spots. Steampunk isn’t really Victorian so much as it is ‘drapery store vomited on a sexy colorblind school marm’
Et le piece de resistance…
Yes, those orange blocks are outlined in green chenille fringe.
brb, saving that green one to my ‘Malfoy estate sale’ pinterest board

Pair a brightass fushia dress with a top hat and gears you cowards

If you’re not using blood red and forty pounds of lace and trim what the fuck are you even playing at
The Pragmatic Costumer calls this “The Hot Mess Dress.” It dates from around 1878. They say: “This dress has more trims than my entire collection of detash combined (detash or destash means all the little bits, pieces, and leftovers from crafting something)! On the outside alone I spot: black lace, bi-colored sandy-brown/cornflower-blue ruffles, tawny velvet, cream silk, beaded netting, cream lace, ribbon bows, ribbon rosettes, cornflower-blue buttons, and that fluffy lace collar. For even more trim-tastic fun and draping pandemonium, here’s a shot of the back:”
The Pragmatic Costumer: “Trims were all the rage in the mid 1870s and 1880s, and this dress is raging harder, faster, and more extravagantly than most.”
And here’s a Worth tea gown from 1895. This really needs to be worn by a mad scientist. Especially one interested in fish.
This post has been picking up speed again lately, so I want to take this opportunity to once more encourage steampunk costumers to think less ‘gears and brown’ and more ‘Mrs. Vanderbilt’s electric light gown.’
