It is so crazy to think that one year and one day ago I found out I was type one diabetic!! There has been so many ups and downs and I'm not just referring to my blood sugars! I have fought extremely hard to find myself again and love myself!! Isn't it crazy how although others love us and let us know how much we mean to them.. We are never truley complete until we learn to love ourselves and truley believe what our loved ones tell us is true - really seeing the qualities we have and knowing that when some gives us a complement it's true! I'm not talking about looks.. Although that is nice. It could be anything from you laugh to your work ethic! I feel like I am in a great place at the moment!! Even though I am still learning everyday. . I feel confident with what I am doing and where I am going!! I am still trying to fully love myself and believe in myself.. Which I have to admit is hard BUT I do know one thing for sure.. And that's that I will get there!! It's not a race and it may take a little time but I know I can do it!! B x

2013

Wow! I can't believe how quickly this year has gone! So many things have happened. Both good & bad! Although there has been some tough times and I have found myself at the lowest of lows.. There have also been some really great things happening and just now as we come to the end of 2013 things are starting to look much brighter! I went through a lot with my health this year which played a huge role on my frame of mind .. How I felt about life, my body and my whole being. I had times when I just cried and cried because I felt alone and like no one understood me. To be honest, I felt like I couldn't talk to people about how I felt so of course I felt alone. Finding out I was diabetic was hard enough but then there's life. The same stuff that everyone goes through .. Well so do I. The world kept spinning and even though in the begging it was hard.. I eventually caught back up with it. I got myself out of a massive rut.. Well .. With help from my boyfriend of course. He is truley one of a kind. He has stood by me through this crazy roller coaster of a year and I can't thank him enough for all he does. While I was trying to deal with such a huge change in my life.. My body also changed due to the dramatic weight loss before I found out and then of course the insulin. For months and months I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin. Feeling confident and beautiful is a missive thing in life! If you don't feel good about your self it's like you turn into a hermit crab and go into your shell.. Well for me anyway. I seemed to focus on the negative things and put myself down a lot!! I'm only just starting to feel more me and not putting so much pressure on myself which I tend to do a lot. Not only with my body etc but work and life in general! When it comes to my body .. I remind myself I love my curves.. I focus on positive things .. Not the negative. I eat well and try to eat healthy foods but if I indulge every now and then.. It's ok! The world is still gonna keep spinning! I try to go to the gym 4-5 times per week but if I miss a day or two that's ok too! But I do try to be as active as I can! It's makes me happy and it's good for me mentally and physically. With work and life I just try to go with the flow. Get done what needs to be done and don't worry about all the little things that may pop up here and there! I think it's important to remind people and myself for that matter that you are you! You need to look after yourself and love yourself because if you don't.. How can anyone else? We all need to accept the person we are! We are all worthy of happiness and love!! I can't wait to see what 2014 holds! Merry Christmas everyone!! B x

It starts with YOU!

Lately I've been thinking a lot.. As usual I guess. I've been thinking about how I need to be more positive and confident with who I am & what I bring to the table - work wise and in my personal life. Instead of feeling down and not good enough or like I suck in general .. I need to focus on the good and work to be happy, healthy and simply me again!! Let me tell you .. I use to be so outgoing and nothing could hold me back untill I got type one diabetes. It was only once I found out that my thoughts and emotions were kind of in a downward spiral. I just felt like I wasn't me anymore and quite isolated by the situation. I have honestly had by far the crappiest year of my life! BUT there are also some positives that came out of it! Me and my boyfriend moved in together. I got a pay rise. I went to Beyoncé and am also going to Justin Bieber. I became stronger through having diabetes and I found myself again. It has been a hard year and it has really made me realise how lucky I am to have a great boyfriend and friends and family who are always there for me and so supportive!! I am ending the year in such a different place both mentally and emotionally! I feel like the old me is back! So I guess what I have learnt is that you need to be okay with yourself and love youself and let yourself shine so all your attributes and positive aspects will radiate and you will be noticed for being a star and not being down or sad all the time! Obviously I know others out there may be in a hard place and may be down or sad and I am not disrespecting that. But I just want them to know it DOES get better!! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. You know that quote.. Today may be the hardest day of your life but tomorrow could be the greatest!! You just gotta get there!! B x

Homesick

Miss my family so much! Haven't seen them for a whole year! It makes me too sad to look at pictures at the moment .. I just wanna cry! I know I chose to live overseas but it's really hard sometimes. It's sad to even think that I missed my nieces first birthday and my dads 50th and sad to know they haven't even seen me since I found out I have diabetes. I get anxious thinking about traveling home because I know there all gonna be curious and I also freak out I might get stopped at the airport with needles in my bag! Obviously I know I will get a letter from my doctor and diabetes is world wide so they will understand but for the first time I think it's ok to be a little freaked! I am going to try and make this experience a positive one because my whole mission is to make sure others don't feel alone and that everything is going to be okay!! I'll keep yah posted! Don't think I'll be going home any time soon anyway!! Maybe early/mid next year!! Can't wait!! B x

Hello dear! I'm Charlie and this is just my answer to the alcohol post. Drinking affects people differently. With me, I go high and have to take insulin. Others I've seen go pretty low, Have you been drunk while diabetic before? Or tested after a drink?

Hello! Thank you for answering! I have only been drunk twice and no I havnt tested after a drink on those occasions. Once I had a glass of wine and checked after that and I was high! But usually I just drink and wake up at a good level. I know I'm probly doing the wrong thing and that's what freaks me out!

Hey guys!

What do you guys do when your drinking? I’m still new to all this so I freak out! In Australia they say you should only have one standard drink. But what about when you wanna have a good night out and more that one drink? Do you inject or not? Wouldn’t it just make me go low because of the liver filtering alcohol etc? Idk but I’m interested to know what you guys do!! I have only had a a few nights where I have drunk a lot. I don’t inject my novorapid only my lantis for overnight. I wake up with a 6 each time. But I don’t know if I’m doing the wrong thing?! I know Australia and America is different with our numbers but yeah..
