small town diner waitress voice: Omelas? Oh, oh no, easy mistake, you're in oh - MAY - las right now, with an A. Plenty' people get the name mixed up. Nope, no utopia here, just our small little town. *face gets really grim* We do still.. Okay well we do still have a kid that we... I mean it isn't working but- well- You know. It- It's fine. I'm sure it'll start working soon.
extremely underrated subgenre of tumblr post: when someone makes a general statement about something, and another person offers a counter-statement that's just completely nonsensical, and the OP just agrees instantly even if it makes no sense at all
examples:
Free service with ads: Well, if I'm not paying for it they have to foot the bill somehow.
Paid service with no ads: Well, if they're not funding it with ad revenue, they need to charge us something.
Paid service with ads: Well that's bullshit.
"We used to be a paid service without ads, but now we're putting ads in it! If you want the ad-free version you have to pay more for preeeeemium": Fuck you fuck you fuck you
they should add some trench warfare mechanics to football

Israel holds the cards. They have the Epstein blackmail details on Trump.
Most elected Republicans are on the same boat. You can't get that level of subordination to a much smaller country without some sort of extortion. Robert Maxwell and Ghislaine Maxwell made their fortunes blackmailing.
You do not infiltrate without the goods.

“We think this may help younger orcas feed more easily, or it could also just be for fun.”...
There have been numerous accounts in recent years of orcas ramming boats—and sometimes sinking them. Scientists believe this may be a form of culturally learned behavior passed down through generations. Now we have fresh examples: orcas in the Gulf of California were filmed teaming up to ram sunfish with so much force that the carcasses exploded into small fragments. While orcas have been known to use force to remove flesh from prey, this is something different, according to a new paper published in the journal Frontiers in Ethology. “We think this may help younger orcas feed more easily, or it could also just be for fun,” said co-author Kathryn Ayres of Beneath The Waves, a nonprofit organization promoting ocean health. “Orcas are known for playing with their food.” Orcas engage in cooperative hunting strategies that can involve striking or killing animals—sometimes eating their prey, sometimes not—so the behavior could be described as social interaction, play, or practice as a mode of social learning. Orcas have been observed ramming whale sharks as another orca held the prey steady. Other cooperative strategies include herding mobile rays, blocking an escape path while hunting white sharks, and deliberately producing waves to bump penguins off ice floes. When hunting species like sunfish, orcas typically rely on a three-pronged strategy. First, an orca will target the pectoral fins, then slash the sunfish across its body to remove the viscera. After that, the orca will use its beak to get at the remaining tissue. The newly observed “ram-to-fragment” behavior might represent a more sophisticated version of that basic strategy. The first instance occurred in July 2024 off the coast of San Jose del Cabo in Mexico. A tourism operator filmed three adult female orcas, one male, and one juvenile catching and eating a spine-tail devil ray. Just after, the same operator filmed one of the adult females holding the carcass of a sunfish in her mouth. The sunfish had a large lateral wound, so the viscera had likely already been removed. The male orca then charged at the carcass, with the female releasing it just before impact. There was an audible sound upon impact as the carcass fragmented and bits of flesh dispersed in the water. The juvenile orca proceeded to eat the smaller fragments while the adults fed on what remained of the split-open body.
Ngl I totally forgot fandom discourse was a thing. I don’t care man, I have car payments

If I may submit:
Stole this from somewhere but i think it’s appropriate
Games from older consoles are being made less and less available to the point so much of the industry's history could easily vanish without
Preserving classic videogames from consoles past.
I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.
Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!
Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.
I've been using Vimm's Lair for years, I have yet to see a single bad link or virus on the entire site. It's arguably the safest and most comprehensive archive of video games in existence. Preserved history
