#TBT to Fall 2014 when I was used in a web/print promo for FRANK Magazine, aĀ digital publication for the I-Pad created by students fromĀ Columbia College Chicago, mentored by Jo-nell Sieren ([email protected]). I wrote and copy edited many of the articles for its third issue. Recently I also stepped down as the social media coordinator over its Facebook page after a year. FRANK Magazine was my most favorite experienceĀ while at Columbia and my greatest accomplishment as a writer in undergrad.

Feeling the PRessure to be a Jack of all Trades
As graduation quickly approaches I am starting to really feel the pressure. Ā The pressure to set myself apart from my peers. The pressure to acquire enough experience to land a job. Not my dream job, just a job. As many PR superstars know, it all boils down to involvement and tailoring your PR experiences to secure that you are the supersar that employer wants to hire.
During my years as President of PRSSA, I acquired experience in non-profit PR through campaigns implemented with local non-profits, and agency experience through our student run firm and my current internship. Ā I also developed a strategic way of thinking to reach students in member relations campaigns.
Ok, ok, enough about my accomplishments. Ā My point is that you need to become a ājack of all tradesā so to speak to market yourself more effectively as an employee. Plus being a more well rounded individual overall. Ā As I woman and a PR student I know the necessity to be good at many things, sometimes simultaneously.Ā
However, that does not mean you shouldnāt find your niche and stick with it. Ā On the contrary. Developing skills in several different areas will allow you to find your place in the expanding PR universe. It will tell you what you like and donāt like, and reveal what areas you truly excel. Ā THEN you can go for your dream job.
Point: Become a jack of all trades, to become a master at some.
Senior Year Bucket List
Last month, my best and I reflected on our past three years in undergrad. If you havenāt had a chance to read the blog description yet, Iām heading into my senior year at Columbia College Chicago.Ā
The inevitable future that comes after graduating and the whirlwind of emotions lead me to the conclusion that Iām not ready to graduate.
While I have managed to do some remarkable things at Columbia, I still have so many more I want to accomplish before I graduate. Ā
I created this blog to chronicle my attempts to go after everything on my senior year bucket list and share this journey with whoeverās reading. Because once itās over, itās over.
Here are my top ten goals (Not in any particular order):
1. Maintain a blog.
2. Learn the basics of HTML, InDesign, & Photoshop.
3. Land an advertising and/or social media internship.
4. Handle the social media of a brand.
5. Gain solid understanding of MS Office Suite.
6. Open a line of credit.
7. Create online portfolio.
8. CompleteĀ MAIPĀ application.
9. Plan a campus event, from start to finish.
10. Graduate Columbia College Chicago with 3.4 GPA.
