behind the MOMO tram! Our biggest design so far: an entire tram. Rushing through Rotterdam from north to south, showcasing our MOMO artwork on a huge scale. Crazy to create these designs on our ‘slow’ computers, but the results are great. Did you spot this tram already?

behind the COMMONS ISSUE for Club Imagine

Every edition of Club Imagine adresses a different issue related to climate change and sustainability. As designers we are involved with Club Imagine and responsible for their visual identity. We created a basic style that leaves room for dynamic issue layers, that we add to the basic artwork every edition.

The Commons Issue focusses on the perspective of shared ownership; about the fact that things can actually grow in output/size by sharing and organising together. 

We are inspired by the algorithm of the Reaction Diffusion creation process, a natural proces of patterns that occur in our nature. Many creatures have patterns or forms as a result of this process, you can see some beautiful examples in this blogpost. This confuses the enemy or by working together gives the sense of a bigger organism. This pattern formation was researched by mathematician Alan Turing in 1952 and he came up with an algorithm and theory that we used to create the animations and visuals for thisIssue. We see a similarity between the way the process grows and behaves and the way the Commons as a concept works. Working together, reacting on each other and in the end become something that you actually take into account.

Experimenting with reaction diffusion visuals was a great process in collaboration with Marwan Anbaky. Adapting the algorithm and reacting to our basic layer created a series of animations and visuals. Marwan is also working on an app based on the Reaction Diffusion process, which will be released in the nearby future.

behind the waving Club Imagine flag

One of the 2 major beachflags we designed for Club Imagine, as part of their new identity, waving in the wind at the opening of the Museum of Water / the Water Issue.

behind the makeover of our studio! We’re rebuilding our studiospace. Interior designstudio ‘Thoben & Minten’ developed a great plan and design for us. With some huge help from our friends, we’re getting there step by step! These are the results of the first weekend. Go team!

behind our future studio

We commissioned interior design duo ‘Thoben & Minten’ to develop a new concept & design for our studio in Rotterdam. These are the final renders. Making optimal use of our space, by dividing different areas of use: workspace, storage and lunch/meetingtable. The use of the color stroke gives a spacious perspective when entering the room and gives it a warm touch, so does the use of the plywood. We love the grid-wallpaper and the way our huge A0-cabinet becomes ‘invisible’ by wrapping it with plywood.

behind the painting of 3 A0-sized posters for Club Imagine ‘the water issue’

As part of the eventstyle we designed for Club Imagine — connecting the public debate on climate change to the world of theater makers and thinkers, a new awareness raising program initiated by the Rotterdamse Schouwburg —we designed a second layer to announce all different issues. The water issue is the 2nd one in a row.

behind the Plastic Issue For Club Imagine we created a visual style that consists of a basic layer and an edition layer. Collages of environmental elements combined with the hint of humans in combination with a strong neon colored connection line, is the base of Club Imagine. Every edition focuses on a different theme, in this case ‘The Plastic Issue’. Club Imagine is a series of environmental based gatherings in the Rotterdamse Schouwburg.

behind the silkscreening of poster #3 in the collaborating series with artist Tim Mastik We finally took the time to finish our series with artist Tim Mastik. This is the 3rd and last silkscreen in a series of 3. Bold, chaos, patterns, geometry and some set rules are the ingredients of this silkscreen series. Execution together with Eric Wijnvoord at Kapitaal, Utrecht!

behind the 200 neon posters at ESNS / Groningen

During Eurosonic Noorderslag '16 we visited Groningen to spot the posters we designed for Rotterdam Popstad, presenting Rotterdam based podia and their gigs in shiny bright neon colors! Go Roffa!. This is a selection of the 200 posters that were spammed throughout the city.
