The best way that I know how to capture the spirit of the New Testament generosity is simply to say: the issue is not, How much must I give? but, How much dare I keep? Not: Shall I tithe? But: How much of the money that I hold in trust for Christ can I take for my private use? The financial issue in the church today is not tithing, but exorbitance of life-style. The question is not can I afford to tithe, but can I justify the life-style that consumes 90% of my income? And behind that is the question: Do I love to use God's money to spread justice and mercy and spiritual hope in the world, or do I prefer to embezzle his money to purchase more and more personal comfort? The question whether the work of Christ here at Bethlehem in 1982 will be adequately supported is really the question of where your treasure is. And where your treasure is, there is your heart. Therefore, I do not seek what is yours but you. Amen. - Piper
Zeal for the Father's house consumes me.
psalm 69:9
Building a flourishing marriage has been the most stretching challenge of our lives. It has pressed us into a relationship of dependence on God more than any other challenge we have faced. Our temperaments are so different. Our preferences are so contrary. Our styles are so incongruent. Our patterns are so diverse. Our outlooks are so varied. Our expectations are so conflicting. And while the challenge of meshing our differences has lessened over the years, it certainly hasnât disappeared.Â
But we each have so much that the other needs. We help to balance each otherâs extremes, to cover each otherâs weaknesses, and to complement each otherâs strengths. We enrich each otherâs lives with interests we would not otherwise pursue. We have forced each other to learn tolerance, and then appreciation, for a wide variety of people types; thus we have broadened each otherâs range of potential friendships, enhanced each otherâs ministry/career effectiveness, and enabled one another to effectively parent two very different children. Perhaps most importantly, we have prodded one another along the path towards Christlikeness.Â
Each time we have had to crane our necks to look through each otherâs eyes, or unclench our fists and resist the urge to fight, or prop our elbows on the table and lean forward and say, âI was wrongâ we have inched a tiny bit closer to the person we each want to become. So we wake up each morning thankful for a marriage that challenges but enriches us, and reminds us every day that different isnât bad, itâs only different

One thing I find fascinating about photographs is that not only a moment is captured but every dominant feelings lingered in the air is locked in along with the visual. Albeit not remembering the details, I'll always remember how I feel in that moment when a particular photo is taken.
âWhom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.â ââPsalms⏠â73:25-26⏠âESVâŹâŹ
We Can Give Thanks
It is possible to give thanks with heavy hearts in the midst of trouble. Trusting the Father by looking to Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), and remembering every promise is now âYesâ to us in him (2 Corinthians 1:20), will lighten our burden (Matthew 11:30). It will pour hope and joy into our hurting hearts, giving rise to faith-fueled, worshipful thanksgiving.
"What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! Â What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! Â O what peace we often forfeit, o what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer."
Maybe itâs just a human thing, but weâre all such tactile beings that we havenât developed a feel for things that are too digital.

When I like people immensely, I never tell their names to any one. It is like surrendering part of them. I have grown to love secrecy. It seems to be the one thing that can make modern life mysterious or marvellous to us. The commonest thing is delightful if one only hides it. When I leave town now I never tell my people where I am going. if I did, I would lose all my pleasure. it is a silly habit, I dare say, but somehow it seems to bring a great deal of romance into one's life. I suppose you think me awfully foolish about it?
