These beautiful babies were born in a rescue on August 21st, to different mothers. My mom met the rescuer at the emergency vet in the middle of the night (our dog had gotten into a porcupine...) and put us in touch with each other.

These two were just a couple of the rabbits that came from that rescue! It started as a call about a few rabbits dumped near a butcher's shop. By the time everything was said and done, they were left with over 20 rabbits!

I named them both after the moon because they both look like the moon 😅 I've never been great with names...

I am not used to having baby bunnies. They're so full of energy, always getting into trouble, it's a handful but I'm so happy to have them here with me.

Today marks two weeks since I brought home Luna and Moonie. This blog will stay forever as a Bella blog, but I think I will start a new one for them. It feels wonderful to have bunnies again. I'll reblog this post with the name of the new blog once I've set it up.

Thank you to everyone who followed Bella and I. No creature on earth could ever replace him, but I hope that by taking care of more bunnies, I continue to honor his memory.

tldr- my spouse was hospitalized halfway through december, and will be away from work for at least a month. they are the primary source of income in our household (because of my disability making it hard to find full-time work). I have been working as much as I am capable, while also applying to jobs online (with no such luck yet), but I had to borrow $1000 from my parents just to pay rent, and our other bills are going to wipe out any money I can make as soon as I make it.

even once my partner gets back, it will take a while for him to get back into working consistently, and we need to save all we can to pay next months bills, as well as keeping ourselves & our pets fed in the meantime; not to mention needing to pay my parents back ASAP (to try to get them off the crusade of wanting me to leave him and move back in with them lmao).

basically any donations of any kind are hugely appreciated, and if nothing else, will help provide these guys with fresh greens each morning 🩷

Shortly after Bella turned 12, I had to make the difficult decision of saying goodbye. Thank you all for coming with me on this journey.

I want to believe in heaven. But any heaven I picture for him is just more of the life he had. I think that means the life he had was enough.

He is the reason I am still alive. I will have rabbits again one day, and in his name those rabbits will be the happiest, most loved, most cared for rabbits they could possibly be. He will live on in that way.

I thought that seeing rabbits now would break my heart, but the opposite is true. Bella may not be running with me anymore, but thinking of your rabbits and how happy you make them brings me so much comfort and joy. As I'm writing this, I know there are hundreds of happy, hoppy, floppy rabbits nestled together in safe, loving homes. I know that some are bolting around carpets, some are climbing on furniture, some are sleeping under tents, some are obliterating a chair leg. I know that some are being pet and soothed and fed their favorite treats.

Roo says thank you for the thoughts and hugs and virtual head smooches. He doesn't quite understand what's going on and why everybody seems sad around him but he still loves snuggles.

I really cannot believe this bunny. He's some divine gift. That's the only conclusion I can come to. How did he bounce back from struggling so much to breathe??? I thought I was going to say goodbye to him at any second and now he's back to causing problems like nothing happened.

Bella is in respiratory distress. His breathing was slowly getting worse but last night it took a turn. He's still alert and eating like normal, and in better shape than the vet expected. I'm going to follow the vet's advice to the letter with the hope that it's a simple respiratory infection or poor air quality, but there's every chance he's nearing his very last days.

I don't know what to do. Should I take the rest of the week off work? Should I sleep next to him? Or should I just act like everything is normal and try to make peace with it?

11 years old. And what an absolute honor to share 7 years of it with him.
