Hey! I think I've figured out at least one of the bigger things that I struggle with regarding my head construction. It's finding the point the head goes from front to side plane. And then actually constructing the side of the head correctly in perspective. Aka foreshortening it correctly in 3D space. So I have crawled back to Loomis. Not sure why I deviated away from Loomis in the first place. But now as I return to his way of head construction things make more sense. These are my newest attempts. Still pretty wonky. But I feel that it looks more correct. I hope this might help you a little bit if you're struggling like me. If so, I'd say go back and re-read Loomis' book on head drawing. There's a lot of amazing info there. Maybe too much. Maybe that's why I had to re-read it again. (Lost count 😂) Anyways, thanks for reading! Hope you have an amazing day. Take care! Some morning doodles that I tried to shade without reference. Pretty difficult. But fun! I find skulls really relaxing to draw. And they have such fun details! Though I clearly still need to work on my proportions and keeping those proportions when I turn the skull in perspective. Either way, hope you all have a amazing Sunday! I’ve felt like I’ve still been struggling a lot with the basic head shape. But after watching this video from New master Academy and steve huston https://youtu.be/2T7cDY7YDsg. I picked up on a few new ways when it comes to constructing the head. Just started to play around with the new concepts. But I feel like I’m able to better understand and draw the head construction already. Here’s a few of the 2 minute head drawings I did from reference to test it out.

I still struggle a lot with eyes, the form of the eye it self is making relativity more sense. But everything around it I have not yet understood. Need to look at how the muscles move and how the eyebrows and the eyes move and change depending on direction and expression.

Head studies from reference. I need to start focusing on understanding better the independent parts of the face.

Finished a page of head drawings. Though I was dripping with frustration by the end. The gap between the idea in my head, and the result on the paper Washington just so wide. A random head doodle I did way too late at night. And I bit over more than I could chew when it came to the hair and the details. But taking that into consideration I kinda liked how it turned out.
