by the time katara appears, aang is practically bouncing with excitement with a grin stretching ear to ear. ❝ you have to see this. ❞ rather than wait for her to agree and join him, a hand grabs hers to all but drag her over to the desired spot. free hand points to the water ; gleeful expression only growing as eyes flicker from katara to the ‘ this ’ in question. ❝ look ! flying dolphin fish ! my friend kuzon and i used to ride them all them time. it’s sooo fun! they’re usually not this close to land though. katara, we have to go ! you’ll love it. c’mon ! ❞
what a thing to be : always war ready, where wonder should gleam, at the cusp life. safety is fleeting, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝, you know when you should run or fight. the top of her waterskin pops off, waterwhip ready to strike, her feet drawing her quickly. heart thrums like a drum in her skull, a call to action, urgent and fierce. whoever it is will think twice about messing with them ❛ what’s wrong ? what’s going ❜
urgency and fear die out in her chest, aang wouldn’t get so excited over an attack. if she had been more focused, she would’ve found the glee worked beneath. ❛ aang, you scared me ! ❜ it lacks any heat, falling in exasperated sigh as tension deflates. this was a lot better than any attack. the excitement near buzzing off him is palpable, infectious. she never stood a chance. water slides safely away, grin replacing previous alarm. they were war torn, but they could make time to be kids. ❛ okay, let’s go before sokka can find us and complain about delaying his plans again. ❜
