Just finished up #Relic, the #DouglasPreston and #LincolnChild novel that the 1997 movie #TheRelic was based on. It’s pretty much identical to that film, save for a few character additions and a couple of plot points, but for the most part it follows the same ancient monster loose in the grounds of a museum story. It’s enjoyable to a degree but I found it outstayed it’s welcome during the third act, much of the finale dragging out and ending with an unsatisfying conclusion. I’ve read a lot of comparisons to #MichaelCrichton’s #JurassicPark book (it’s there on the cover) but I think that it did everything infinitely better than this. Especially the science, which feels integral to the story, but here it just feels to serve one purpose - exposition. Apparently there’s a sequel titled #Reliquary which follows #SpecialAgentPendergast further and explores the mythology of the #Mbwun creature further, however I doubt I’ll be picking that up. As a fan of the film I wanted to give this a read but I don’t think I have any interest in exploring a follow on. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz6F8Nmg7LY/?igshid=1lt32z7sezbjt
