OLIVER JACKSON COHEN — 2018 New York Comic Con
Rose:
-
The amusement that lingered within her features would only grown more prominent as Ben spoke, as he insisted that he had merely been teasing. “Oh I know you are, he just doesn’t deserve any more of my attention,” she told him, attempting to calm whatever concerns her brother may have had in the moment. To show him that there were no true hard feelings, and that her silence was more so for the topic of her ex, than anything Ben had said. As with her other brothers, it was increasingly hard for Rose to ever truly be mad. To hold anything ill-will or negative emotion beyond a resentment that sat deeply rooted but also hidden. Subconscious in so many ways for they were they boys—two of which having left—and with that came separate responsibilities. Additional freedoms or so she believed.
She would almost snort around yet another bite, fork hovering above that salad as he insisted she shouldn’t be worried. “I’d like to know when that memo went out,” she teased with a shake of her head, “When you all decided that I needn’t worry.” The urge to roll her eyes was great, though still the amusement clung to her face. Hiding the irritation—the fact that she felt put out by her elder brothers ability to shrug off her concern. Her want to help and protect. “Things are fine, busy but that’s to be expected—I work for a charity and we’re nearing the holiday season,” she told him with a shrug. There was truth to those words, yet they remained shallow. Rose keeping her own worries and concerns—her dreams—kept hidden. “Francis misses you,” she added then, the mention of her dog bringing an additional sense of life to that almost smile. That rescued Doberman having taken shining to Ben rather early on. He becoming one of the few that anxious animal trusted.
“Good.” Ben gave a firm nod, expression more than pleased hearing Rose’s response.He preferred to ignore the fact that the twins even had exes, unless of course they or anyone was causing them issue, then as always, there’d be no question he’d intervene. Though despite knowing her following remarks were also in a jesting manner, he was left slightly puzzled. “All? We’ve all said the same thing?” Yes, it was a well-known mannerism of their family to wave off help, or heeding to the concerns of others, yet with their younger brother returning, and when it came to him and Dean’s constant, turbulent state, it was.. interesting the three Holder sons seemed to have some form of a shared sentiment. In reality, having much of any common ground these days was more of a rarity than anything. “Besides, you know I can take care of myself.” Ben insisted once more, of course regardless of her buying the statement or not, his elder brother stance always being that him being concerned when it came to her and not the other way around wouldn’t waver.
“I hear you, I’m sure you’ll be accomplishing a lot though.” Ben assured, knowing how much Rose cared and was also dedicated to her work. His brows proceeded to raise as she added the mention of her dog. “Really?” He stated through a light laugh, having no idea why her rescued dog had apparently taken such a liking to him. “I still don’t know why…let me know if you’ve figured it out. — I mean, I suppose I can find some time to go and see Francis with you, if that’s what you’re asking.” Ben mused. If it made his sister happy, and he sure knew that her dog never failed to do so.
Dylan:
“I think Mystic is winning over New York in a lot of ways lately,” she smirks, shrugging her shoulders some as she begins to pour the coffee. “Were you now? Who wouldn’t be, really.. I mean, I don’t blame you guys for feeling that way. But, I actually sort of know the winner and I have to say, I don’t think it’s rigged. —You know my friend, Oliver, who works at the City Hall? Well, his girlfriend actually won the car, which I thought was really nice. She played her role well, to be honest.“ Handing over a fresh mug of coffee to Ben, her own in tow, she leans back against one of the counters. “Yup.. just a regular old black coffee, dash of milk and half a sugar. Very complicated.” It made her wonder, though, what was different about Ben other than the inevitable — time. “Thanks.. I mean, I. guess. But he’s been the real trooper in this situation. Pretty strong, I must say. And it’s uh.. been really nice to be home, too. Didn’t realise how much I missed it.”
Color him shocked. Never did Ben think Dylan would admit advantages over her time in New York. “Yeah? In what ways is this town better now?” He mischievously asked, yet truly curious as to what she meant. “You know the winner?” Now this was a discovery he would definitely have to mention to Cam, but Ben merely blinked as the name didn’t exactly sound familiar. Never did he and Camila Garcia play fair after all. “Well, if this friend of yours works at City Hall, then that’s more of an advantage than I thought. — I see. The girl I’d never seen before. The game ‘murderer’ who won the car.” He shook his head, mouthing a thank you as she placed a coffee mug in front of him. “It was never regular to me and pretty sure I did always get the order right for you.” Ben proudly reminisced. “You don’t know how good it is to hear you say that.” His gaze searched hers. “If there’s anything I can do, for you, your father, please, tell me.” And yes, even despite the lingering distaste from Thomas Everly.

Alex & Wyatt:
closed starter for @alexandertcte & @benholdcr
Standing near the entrance with one hand in his pocket and the other tipping a bottle of beer back so he could finish it off, Wyatt surveyed the building he was considering pitching to Nora for them to buy and convert into their restaurant. It was old as hell and had fallen to pretty extreme disrepair, but with some, well, more like a whole lot of renovations, he thought he could imagine it taking shape into the kind of establishment he and Nora were dreaming up.
But before he did that, before he brought her here, he wanted the opinion of his two best friends. Plus, it was a Wednesday night in Mystic and it wasn’t like there was much else to do. So he’d bought a six pack, picked Ben & Alex up and brought them over to the dump that could maybe, possibly, potentially be part of his next career move. “So what do y’all think?” he asked, calling out after his friends who had moved further into the building to check it out. “I know it’s nowhere near as glamorous as The 401,″ he scoffed, looking over at Alex, “but I think it could have potential.”
Alex was just the right person to be taking along, considering everyone had attempted to talk him out of the warehouse he’d purchased, thinking it’d be too much trouble. But he knew it had potential, and truthfully, there was potential in this building, too. He could just see it. Beer bottle in hand, cigarette in the other, he finds a nearby seat, weathered and unused. The place was a mess, but once cleaned up.. it could be a hell of a restaurant. “I say you go for it,” he says, before sucking in a sharp breath, inhaling the smoke that aided him in keeping a constant cool. “It’s got potential, dude. Do you remember what the warehouse looked like before I transformed it? You’ve got the room here to do whatever the hell you want. Just gotta clean it up, and envision what you want out of it. What kind of restaurant are you two thinking?”
Ben knew he’d be able to give a few pointers out to Wyatt, being in the realm of business sorts himself, though the true brains in this situation was Alex. His friend had impressively built the 401 up from dirt, and well…when Wyatt warned them both beforehand that the potential location was a fixer-upper…he was not lying in the slightest. Leaning against one of the warehouse walls that remained standing, Ben placed his beer bottle and own cigarette pack down on what seemed like a ledge, amusedly scoffing at Alex’s commentary. “I do, it was a piece of shit too. I mean, if this one could do it and make a successful club, you definitely can with a restaurant.” He jokingly interjected, nodding at Alex. Proceeding to pick his lighter from his pocket upon grabbing a cigarette to ignite, his eyes zeroed in around the various debris. “Yeah, now we’re talking. What’s the menu?” Ben turned to Wyatt. “I am still getting food, right?” ( @wyattdcvis )
Camila:
“You make fun of me all the time, and yet you keep coming back for more. I’d say you love our friendship. —Jojo.. Joanne.. something like that, not that I paid any attention to anything but the prize.” Laughter seeps into her chest, escaping her lips in a genuine manner.. amused at the idea of ruining yet another of the Holder family cars. “It’s my forte.. I’m just too good at it. And they may be flowers, but they’re not all here right now. Well—that depends. What are you here for? A lesson on flowers and plants, or would you like me to prepare something for a particular someone?”
“What’s that? You’re coming back for more? I could have called that one.” Ben purposely jested, twisting the words of her previous remark. Even if both their staunch prides primarily refused to admit sincerity regarding their friendship, the bond had truthfully become solid. “We’ll figure it out.” He rolled his eyes, though unable to blame her for only focus being about the game prize too. “Great…” He dryly began, eyeing around the shop again. At a loss. “Thank god, two seconds ago it sounded like you were putting me to work or some shit. Anyway…what are your best flowers available right now?”
Sawyer:
STARTER: OPEN. TIME: EVENING. LOCATION: SUGAR DADDY BAKERY.
sawyer is in the middle of flipping the sign from “open” to “closed” when he catches sight of the person walking down the street. he hopes they’re not planning on ruining his early close - he hadn’t had a customer in the building in more than a half hour, and he wanted to pick up his daughter and go home, “please don’t tell me you need baked goods. we literally just closed, sorry.”
@mysticstarter
“Sawyer, aren’t I an exception? Ben mused as he approached the entrance of the bakery, despite the fact that Nora’s fellow employee was turning over the closed sign and for all intents and purpose, was likely being serious. “I mean, you wouldn’t want to give me some free food? Kind of hurts. — Anyway, I won’t bother you long...dor now. I was wondering if your boss had left already..”
Nora:
STARTER: CLOSED. TIME: MIDDAY, September 23. LOCATION: MILLER & CO. LAW.
@benholdcr
While Ben remained somewhat of a mystery to Nora, she felt pretty confident in the fact that she had gotten closer to him than most people had. She felt like she knew him a little better than most. Apparently, however, she did not know him well enough to when his birthday was. Birthdays were important to Nora, both because she was a mother to a child under 10, and also because she well, baked for a living. Cake was kind of her thing. More importantly, Ben knew these things about her as well. They were, at minimum, friends with one another. Trying to find any other sort of label was a level of mental gymnastics Nora wasn’t up for at the present moment. Especially because she had an agitated receptionist at her heels, telling her that ‘Mr. Holder is in a meeting right now!’ while Nora proceeded to walk down the hallway anyway. Once she found the office she was looking for, she flashed her shadow a smile and freed a hand from beneath its place, holding a cake box steady, and opened the door.
Indeed, she did stride into that office and find the eldest Holder behind his desk, on the phone. But she could wait. He had some explaining to do, after all. In lieu of causing a further stir, Nora crossed the room and perched herself on Ben’s desk, beside where he was seated. Yes, she had freed at least an hour in her day for precisely this moment.
Naturally, the longer this current phone call dragged on, the more Ben was easily losing his patience. Second by second. Two fingers proceeded to clasp the bridge of his nose all the while twirling a pen around on the desktop aimlessly. “Yeah, I understand.” He dryly stated for what seemed the thousandth time. Every damn point had already been gone over, what else was left for anyone to say in this conversation? If the rookies were having issues, they needed to sort out that on their own. It’s what he had done when in their position. Though hearing the turning of the door, his attention shifted, already having a glare set for what he believed to be the receptionist coming in to pass over yet another message. Seeing who actually passed through the office doorway however, his demeanor did a complete turn-around, a small grin tugging at one corner of his lips. Nora.
The appearance stunned him in the best way, the sight of her never not a welcome one. And as she took it upon herself to take a seat upon his desk, Ben’s brows instantly rose, already more than looking forward to where this was going. “Right. Yes, send a message with it all.” He quickly stated, at the same time reaching out for Nora while signing off the call for good. “Well, I already like this surprise.” Ben teased, leaning back a bit in his seat. “it’s not fun always waiting till later to see you either.”
Dylan:
“Oh yeah?” A smile brightens up her features as she glances over at Ben, a wave of nostalgia washing over her. There were so many things that felt like home, this event being one of them. “It was my first one back and.. safe to say, there’s nothing like Halloween in Mystic. —Oh, yeah, I was there.. only briefly. I met up with my friend Oliver and met his girlfriend, the one who actually won that car. Can you believe it?! I didn’t stay long, though.. I was way too exhausted.” Especially considering her long day at both the farm and the diner. “The party looked wild, though?” Without further hesitation, she starts up the coffee machine, determined to make him feel welcome. “Do you still take a sugar? Or has your coffee order changed these days?” A sly smile tugs at her lips as she looks over to him questioningly. “He’s recovering well, thanks for asking. It was.. a little scary for a time there, but thankfully he pulled through. Dad’s not one to want help, though, so it’s a little hard to take care of him.”
Ben nodded in response and truthfully, his own grin remained hearing that she seemed to be doing well being back in town. “So Mystic wins over New York in this case? Good to know.” He couldn’t help musing before shaking his head at himself that Dylan had also shown up at the party. “Wow, I missed out running into you there too, then. But, I... was caught up trying to get in on winning that car though.” His eyes widened at the fact she essentially even knew the supposed game winner. “You know the winner, huh? My friend and I are convinced it was rigged.” To think Cam and hike could have had it in the bag. “It was wild alright.” Ben remarked through a light laugh, his expression shifted into a form of true curiosity that she’d remembered such a detail about him after all the years that passed. To think he thought she’d essentially forgotten him in her life. “It’s still the same, thanks. Is yours?” How much did change or remain un-changing between them? “I bet...that’s good he’s doing well though. I have no doubt you’ve done amazing handling everything, you know.”
Rose:
-
She nearly smiled at the look that found her brother’s face—at the sound of that laugh hidden beneath that telltale scoff. Rose could just imagine what Ben was thinking then, many of his thoughts mirroring her own, so much so that she felt no need to comment. No need to fuel more into a subject she so dearly wished to drop. And so she didn’t, the brunette merely shrugged at his words, taking another bite of her lunch as she chewed slowly. Appearing amused, for it was far easier to cling to that emotion then to give life to the darker things that surrounded topics like her ex. A part of the youngest Holder wanted to tease her brother then, to tell him that should he date someone their father adored then he could speak of left field oddities. But for now her lips remained shut to such things, believing it better to simply let the subject be.
“I’ll take that as a no,” she chimed, chastising the elder in her usual way. “At the risk of sounding like mom, you’ll run yourself into the ground, you know that don’t you?” with such words, her tone grew soft. Very much the little sister. It had always amused Rose—in a frustrating sort of way, just how little her family focused on their health. They all worried so much about her own, about what she’d eaten and her levels, yet they could go near days without thinking the same for themselves.
“What?” Ben had to muse at the look Rose was shooting him from across his desk, truthfully unable to read her expression at the moment, which was rare territory when it came to their usual similarities. “Oh come on, I was joking Rose.” He added with a grin in case he may have nearly pissed her off with his comments as she decided to stay silent, though noting the hint of amusement from her was some consolation. The last thing he needed was for her to become mad at him, like their other brothers endlessly were. And as if he wasn’t over-protective enough when it came to this youngest siblings dating, the notion their father was apparently looking closely at the work his sister’s ex had been doing at the firm made him aggravated in an envious way. He always had to ensure he remained in the top spot to their father. No one would rip that away from him.
Ben grimaced a bit in between bites of his lunch, moving to the next container at the moment. Of course Rose could see right through him and know he’d been lying about having anything substantial for breakfast earlier. “I’m fine, Mom, you don’t have to worry about me.” He purposely jested from her remark, the usual insisted response. Yet, his sister truthfully was one of the few who went out of their way to regularly check in on him. “How’s everything with you?” He of course followed, not caring if it was a broken record of a counter.

Roman:
Where: Miller & Co Law Who: @benholdcr
It had been only been a few weeks since Roman had made his return to Mystic, but other than seeking out Rose, he hadn’t paid much mind to the rest of his family. Until now. He figured it was high time he made an appearance, even if he’d rather not. It wasn’t that he particularly disliked any of his siblings, he simply had better matters to attend to. Like his company, and ensuring that his father understood that he was better without the Holder name. “Quite the office you have for yourself,” words spoken as Roman stepped into it, evident smirk twisting at the edges of his lips. “Let me guess, Jonathan is so very proud of it.” There was bitterness in his tone, as there always would be. But he breezed past it, casting his gaze to his eldest brother.
Roman’s abrupt appearance, naturally sauntering into the office without a damn care in the world had Ben’s eyes shooting upward from the most recent file before him. In the least, it did provide a break in the monotony of going through them. “You still don’t know how to knock, do you?” He mused. There had been word that Roman had recently returned, though time was a tricky thing, especially when it came to the complicated inner-workings of their family. Merely raising a brow, Ben did give a nod at the remark about his office, well aware the space was impressive. Though he scoffed, his expression blank at the latter comment. Neither of his brothers ever seemed to get it, did they? “What’s the matter, Rome? Back after too many lost investments?”
@camilagvrcia
Arya:
Ben’s reaction was definitely a surprise. Not just because of his genuine concern, but because of the way he had responded to hearing his brother’s name. Arya didn’t know enough about the Holders to determine whether or not there was a sibling rivalry, but she could sure detect some annoyance in his voice. “Do you mean to tell me that Dean’s Anti-Fan Club finally has a co-captain?” She snickered in response to his claim.
“You’re probably the last person I expected to worry about me, but here we are. I’m a big girl, Ben. I promise you I’ve done far worse, but if it makes you feel any better, I’ll let you drive me home.” She wasn’t expecting him to say yes. In fact, she was rather sure that it would be just the thing to make Ben step back. He didn’t owe her anything, neither had they been lifelong friends or even really spoken much before tonight.
Now this was interesting. The question Arya just posed was hardly one he could have expected to hear. Ben blinked, freezing in place to ensure it had sunk in before a brow rose over at her. “Wow where the hell has my membership been all this time? I should’ve been captain of that for years.” Ben instantly smirked at the notion. “But really? My brother isn’t your favorite person either?” He’d nearly been entirely thrown off the situation at hand with this apparent, mutual distaste.
Ben proceeded scoffing lightly under his breath at her following remarks, shrugging. He truthfully only knew what one particular person expected of him. “It’s not a big deal. I was going to be heading out soon anyway.” He nodded, dousing his cigarette into the nearby holder before walking forward a few steps. “So yeah, I can drop you off on my way?”
Nora:
-
“I’m glad one of us knew that going into this, because I must admit, I wasn’t entirely convinced.” The admission of at least some insecurity on her part had Nora a little uneasy, but then Ben was just, well, Ben. By now, Nora felt like she knew him well enough to know to take a modicum of comfort from his words; this was his form of consolation. A smile returned to her features almost instantly as his fingers captured an errant curl and tucked it back behind her ear.
“You,” Nora all but hummed, while allowing herself to trail off,·“are sweet. But I do need to open now. What kind of example would I be setting for my employees if I didn’t, hm? And you should go to work too, y’know.”·
They were close enough now, close enough that she could kiss him, but opted not to and wrapped her arms around his middle for an embrace instead. She had to change her clothes, make sure she could reasonably open the doors with enough baked goods to feed her guests while others were prepared. It felt liker her to-do list was growing for every moment she stood in one place. And yet, what rose to the forefront of her mind, above all of that, was that she would miss him when he left. And that was terrifying.
Nora dropped her arms from around him, startled by her own realization, and stood back to peek up at Ben with a small smile, lifting a hand to wave, probably a little awkwardly.·“Go on, you. Talk to you later?”
The serenity crossing Nora’s features provided indication that she felt, and Ben knew he wouldn’t mind continuing to encourage that she’d done fine at the City Hall meeting regardless. Not just anyone would sign up for something like this, but he’d been well aware of how incredible she was in countless aspects. Truthfully? Ben still reeled in the sheer luck of having her back in Mystic from Los Angeles. His teasing grin shifted into a slight pout at Nora’s answer, but she was right. He wouldn’t stand in the way of her shop business, and he did need to get going himself, as much as the option to stay and be around Nora was of course preferred, as if he could help it.
“Ok.” Ben stated through a downcast huff, though a grin hinted at the corner of his lips, how she took her shop owner role seriously was easily alluring. When Nora’s arms wrapped themselves around him, his own instantly returned the embrace, holding her frame close against his, reveling in the proximity between them for as long as possible. How the hell did he go this along without her presence when she’d left over the years again?
As her hold released, Ben nodded in surefire agreement to her comment. “How else will I get through the day?” He mused, his arms slowly resuming to his sides as the sudden, disappointing realization that he had to leave hit again. “Let me know time and place.” Lowly whispering near her ear, a light laugh escaped him as she shooed him off. “See you.” Ben shot her one last look before finally heading on his way.
