“What? Never heard of the five second rule?” was Julian’s response as he caught someone watching him take a bite out of the sandwich that he had picked up after dropping it on the sidewalk.

Benjamin’s eyes widened in disgust at the bystander’s comment. “ That’s a western cultural food hygiene myth, and it has dangerous consequences. Haven’t you heard of contamination ? ”

“Have you made resolutions for the New Year?” Rebekah asked him curiously. “I’m kind of hoping you’ll say no so I feel less terrible about myself,” she added with a chuckle.

Benjamin let out a long breath as he attempted to collect his thoughts.  “ Unfortunately, I think my resolution is to discover what my resolutions should be. Do you feel less terrible ? ” he asked with a laugh.

“ That’s... nearly a blessing, considering I left my key in my nightstand, ” Ben remarked, shrugging off his jacket. “ Perhaps we won’t tell Arden we’re so careless lately ? ”

“At least we’re inside nice and warm.” she added trying to add a cheerful tone to the situation. Anna looked around the room at the strangers she’d surely been trapped with. “Its Hawthorne right?” she tilted her head to the side as she tried to remember the males name before turning to the other. “I’ve seen you around before, elementals right?” 

“Right, you people call this warm…” she muttered. Why did she move back to the north? She had forgotten how much she detested snow. The only reason anyone should willingly live north of the Mason-Dixon Line (or generously she could make a case for north of New York City) is if they were trapped there by a giant ice wall, which it looks like they were. “Yeah I’m an elemental.” She said with a half wave from her position on the floor. 

“ That would explain why we’re all here, ” Benjamin remarked in a dry tone, gesturing at the Element Training Facility sign overhead. “ ... Sorry. This is just remarkably too similar to the power outage last and I’d love to stop being trapped places. ” He only then nodded in the direction of the woman who’d asked the question. “ Yes, but you can call me Benjamin. I don’t believe I’ve met either of you. ”

Marie: We're still trying to decide what to watch and if we're going to have power. I'm pushing a Harry Potter really hard, cause I mean- if not now, then when.

Marie: I hope so too.

Marie: Where are you? Did you make it home? Are you warm? Safe?

Benjamin: I approve of Harry Potter.

Benjamin: I'm at the elemental training facility. The door is busted, but this is somehow not the worst thing to happen recently.

Benjamin: Am I a Hufflepuff?

aubrey: hey, was just wanting to make sure you were some place warm and safe and not out in this storm.

Benjamin: I am fine. Is Ivy with you?

Benjamin let out a low groan. This could not be happening again. “ We’re trapped in the training facility, more or less, ” he informed the other two in the building. Was it horrid of him to admit he didn’t even know their names ? “ The doors are set to remotely lock when training is over, but the storm must be interfering with the signal. ”

Benjamin: I hope you have plenty of blankets, then.

Alexa took a step in, pulling at her fingers anxiously. “I uh, no I’m alright,” she replied to Ben. “I just, God where do I start,” she said. “What are we? Like I know we’re boyfriend and girlfriend, but it doesn’t feel that way.” She bit her lip. “I just, I don’t know what our relationship is anymore, and I can’t keep going on not knowing, because I love you, but it feels like you don’t love me like I love you.”

Although he was startled by her brevity, this conversation had been approaching since this summer, hovering over them like a dark cloud Benjamin kept attempting to avoid. “ Alexa... ” He took her hand gently, gesturing towards the couch. He owed her more than having this conversation in a doorway. “ I owe you a multitude of apologies, for so many reasons, but especially for putting you into this situation in the first place. I never imagined... Any of this would happen. I do care about you. None of this has anything to do with me caring about anyone else except... well, Ivy. But I...  I don’t have any idea what I’m doing with my life, and I... don’t think anyone deserves to wait around while I figure that out. ”
