Imogene: Okay, then I will be there within half an hour. :)
Ben: I still think it's bullshit.
Imogene: Well they don't know who did it yet. It could have been a freshmen. They're not really adults.
Imogene: Benjamin. Don't worry about where I am. Do you want some company?
Ben: It was probably some idiot who thought it was funny
Ben: I don't want to put you in danger, but yes, I do want company.
Imogene: Crazy what’s going on, isn’t it?
Imogene: You got the update from the VA, right? Don’t go outside.
Imogene: Do you want some company?
Ben: Yeah. I guess. Not sure I expected this from adults.
Ben: Are you nearby? Don't bother if you aren't.

Ciara smiled at his comment even as the first lab made her want to sigh. It was reaching the point of the semester where people should be starting to figure out the basics, but apparently they weren’t sinking in for people yet. The TA was relieved though that it wasn’t her job to adjust the lesson plans. “That’s cool,” she said with real admiration, “it takes a lot to deal with people and teach.” She sure knew it wasn’t her path.
Ben was not used to this kind of thing. Talking to people voluntarily was a lot sometimes. It was different when he was doing his student teaching. Somehow being around children and young adults was a lot easier than adults and people his own age. “My father. That’s what he did. Before he went to prison.” It was ten years ago but it was still really difficult smetimes. “I like teaching. I’m very patient.”

Kam was very open to talking about mental health, coping strategies, and therapy. But this guy didn’t know them, so Kam tried to hold back. “That’s rough buddy. I hope you’re getting some help for that. Our counseling center is great, if you wanna check it out.” They wondered if they still overstepped some bounds, as they were apt to do. They started talking to the stranger just to share a joke and make sure they were okay.
He bit his lip and shrugged. He’d been in therapy and while it helped, his anxiety was just bad in public spaces. He learned to cope with it. Plus he didn’t stay invisible for very long anymore. “Yeah. He shrugged and looked at them. “Honestly, there’s not much else they can do for me.” Ben was on medication for his anxiety. He shrugged. “It’s fine.” The vampire didn’t really know what he was supposed to do in this kind of situation. No one was ever that interested in talking to him about this kind of thing. “Er, it’s a work in progress.”

Kam only knew English and Spanish, but being fully bilingual was still more than most Americans. “Like how many? I think it would be so cool to know like 10 languages.” Well, they had taken French in high school but didn’t keep up with it. Kam returned the laugh. “I’ve not been to Zimbabwe either. I don’t know that I could name a lot of spiders though, and I don’t care to learn more about them.” They think animals are valuable, but they don’t want to be near any spiders. “That’s a really pretty name. I’m Kam Decker, short for nothing.”
She had to know multiple languages to help her mum out and learning languages was honestly her favorite thing. Maybe she should be studying linguistics. That might actually be fun for her. “Six. I probably will take a few more language classes while I’m here though. I think it would be cool to learn more of them.” She wanted to travel all over, but she knew she had to be careful. “I’m going to be honest and say that when I found spiders were real, I freaked out. Lobsters are so much cooler.” She hated the idea that they could crawl all over her. “It’s Greek.” The mermaid smiled. “Nice to meet you Kam! So where are you from?” she asked, tilting her head to the side.

That was fair, Felix didn’t always trust his magic either, it was still fairly unpredictable but then again he was pretty sure no one did magic the way that he did. Felix nodded and put the headphones on pausing for a moment to listen, straining to see if he could hear anything outside of the headphones and, thankfully, nothing!
“I can’t hear anything,” He said kind of loudly without realizing it “any signs of something different? No hair color change or horns?”
that was just a hypothetical he had never actually given someone horns though there had been once or twice that he had thought about it just for some minor mischief but he also didn’t want to upset Mama Angie by getting into trouble.
It wasn’t that Ben one of those people that didn’t believe in other’s skills, it was just that he wanted to do things himself. Since he couldn’t do magic, he didn’t mess with things. However, it was just a pair of headphones and if he had to replace them because someone messed them up, well he had the money for it. Sometimes he wished he trusted people easier, but he didn’t.
Ben blinked when the other spoke loudly that he couldn’t hear anything. As far as Ben was aware, the other didn’t have anything weird happen to him because of the headphones, but that seemed to be only the places he could visibly see. “No, you look, er, okay, but that’s just what I can see. Who knows if something changed.”

Ciara sent a supportive smile. She was also overwhelmed by Katmere, but it was more the supernatural aspect than the amount of people. She has lived in cities and went to LSU, a decently large college, for her undergrad. She went to the teaching desk at the front of the classroom and sat down, pulling out last week’s labs to grade. “I hope that goes well,” she said, never knowing how to respond to people’s problems. “Nice to meet you, Benjamin. I’m Ciara, and welcome to the lab for Biology 101. What are you studying?”
Ben had been around supernaturals his entire life. He was used to them and used to the whole vampire thing too since it was the species he’d been around most of his life. In fact, it really was only recently that he met species outside of those that were able to attend the academy. He’d been around supernatural creatures more than he’d been around mortals, so that was something different than a large portion of other supernaturals. “I hope so too.” Because he missed the routine. “Pleasure to meet you Ciara.” He looked around the classroom. He had taken biology, but never been in this lab personally. “I’m studying education.”

His power sounded simultaneously very useful and very annoying. Kam had mediocre control over their waterbending yet a pretty powerful siren call, but they never had to worry about accidentally using their powers, especially on land. “Isn’t it for us all?” they commented. You’d be hard pressed to find a college student who wasn’t nervous or anxious. “But good survival instincts there,” Kam tried to not downplay his mental issues. They sent a double thumbs up.
He did like his power, even if it was a bit annoying at times. Honestly, Ben was better about controlling it now than he had been when he was a child. It was his father that taught him how to control it, although even when he was living with his mother, it was more difficult. Ben liked being able to control it. “Yeah, I suppose.” Except his anxiety was worse than the average college student’s. At least he typically knew how to deal with it. There wasn’t any reason for his anxiety most of the time. “Yeah, it just isn’t fun when I’m in large crowds or surprised.”

“Yeah, because you’re boring.” Imogene teased, nudging him playfully in the side. “But I’m boring too, so I love you any way. Guess that means you’re going to be stuck with me, then, because I am not going to be restarting this degree.” It would be a pain to get access to a lot of the sources that she was using if she was a student at another university, as well. “Yes, I rather imagined that a kissing booth wouldn’t be up to your speed, guess it’s a good thing you have me, then.” Imogene said, slinging an arm around his shoulder and pulling him close so that she could press a kiss to his cheek, leaving a faint lipstick mark behind. (Because of course she’d dug out the reddest one that she had in honor of Valentine’s Day.) “Yes, let’s get started. You lead and I’ll follow!”
“And I recognize that I am boring, yet I like boring, so I won’t change,” he replied, trying not to roll his eyes. Ben did like being the way he was, even if he was a nervous wreck most of the time. “A shame really. I thought maybe I’d bore you enough at some point so you’d swap schools,” he said with a playful tone. Honestly, he probably was the worst friend since he never did anything fun. Ben spent too much free time studying rather than doing anything fun with any friends. “Only because I prefer to find my own person to kiss rather than pay someone to kiss me. And they always have the most boring women working them.” It was a joke mostly because it wasn’t like he found any woman of interest in the dating department. What he was not prepared for was Imogene to kiss his cheek. Great, now he’d probably doubly get the attention of those women he wasn’t interested in. “Do you have something to wipe that off with?” Knowing the lipstick would leave behind a mark. “Can we go make heart paper chains?”

Felix hesitated a moment, he didn’t think it would backfire after all it wasn’t a terribly complicated spell though he did find himself thinking to his past mistaken spells and shrugged a little bit
“I’m about 86% sure you’ll be fine.” Felix told him with a sheepish smile “Unless you want me to try them first which is understandable considering I have accidentally baked cookies that turned my mom’s hair green once so I don’t want to make any big promises and them have them backfire.” Felix admitted
Benjamin was an extremely nervous person under normal circumstances, so it was honestly kind of awkward to take something from a stranger that he barely knew and expect it to work. It had nothing to do with the other’s talents, just his own doubts in most people. Of course, he didn’t trust most people. That was learned from his years in the vampire court, then with his mother. He was only confident that he would never betray his morals.
“I would prefer that my hair not turn green. I like the shade of my hair.” It was the same shade as his father’s, who he looked very similar to. “You are more than welcome to try them first.”

Kam blinked in surprise at the guy disappearing before their very eyes. They wondered for a brief moment if they had imagined that, like how you wonder if the lights really flickered or you just blinked too long. “Whoa, did you just turn invisible? That’s super cool!” The siren knew that other species had non-water based powers, but it was exciting to see up close. “Well, then I guess they get to live another day. And I probably shouldn’t mess up my outfit either,” Kam said as if they were wearing something nicer than jeans and a Sleeping With Sirens tee-shirt.
Usually he was better about not turning invisible when he was nervous, but this year seemed to be a bit different. For whatever reason, he was nervous all the time and he didn’t know if it was because he was about to graduate, but he wasn’t planning on leaving Katmere University after that anyways. “Yes, I did. It happens when I get nervous, anxious, or surprised. Which unfortunately seems to be a constant state for me.” It was a neat party trick though. “I suppose they do.” He personally wouldn’t get into a fight with another student anywhere that wasn’t the Ludrares field, but no one needed to know that.

Ciara made a show of pulling out her phone and checking the time; it was 12:08. She really didn’t have anywhere to be right now. With a sigh, she conceded, “Okay, I’ll start on my grading in here, but we have to be out in 45 minutes for the TA setting up the next lab.” She felt like she was being a pushover, risking trouble for some random student. To set some sort of boundary, she held up a finger in warning. “Also, don’t make this a habit. This is a one time offer.”
Ben had been used to this for a while now. The school being too loud for him. Technically, it was better than some of the places he’d been before this, but he didn’t appreciate the loudness of any place. “Thank you,” he replied with a sigh of relief. There had to be a way to soundproof a room for supernaturals with sensitive hearing like himself. Maybe he would take that up with one of the staff members. “Most of the time my favorite professor lets me sit in her office, but he’s away dealing with a family matter right now.” Ben walked into the lab and found a seat, opening the textbook. He was supposed to start student teaching soon and he was nervous for that since he’d never written real lesson plans before. “I’m Benjamin by the way.”
RICHARDS: Have you ever pretended to be someone you’re not?
“Living with my mother. I had to pretend that I was someone I wasn’t. She didn’t give me an option to be a vampire that didn’t drink human blood. Maybe I didn’t have to pretend because she knew I was already different, but she made me into something I’m not for a bit. I’m thankful I was able to get out of there when she shipped me off to Katmere Academy.”
SHIFTER: What animal would you shift into, if you had the power?
“I think I’d like to shift into a field mouse. They’re so small and can easily run away from a situation they don’t want to be in. Of course being small does have downsides, but for the most part, I think it would be nice to be small.”
ZAHO: Talk about a time that you really felt confident in yourself and your abilities.
"I do not think I have ever felt confident in myself or my abilities. Is that something that people just... do?”
