he had hoped he could just put everything behind him.  to just.. live the rest of his life in peace, with no more fighting or wars or whatnot.  but, alas, people continue to ask... and he hates to disappoint.

however, he knows bones means well.  he knows he can tell him no, and that he will understand.  but still... the guilt that weighed on his very soul was crushing.

he takes a moment to think.  it cannot be ignored; the once-king did miss his sparring matches with the guards and undyne, as they let him get to know them without words.  however.... here on the surface is much different.  sparring is reserved for competitions with grand rewards for the winning side.  he doesn’t see that to be fair, but.. it is how it is.

“... bones.”  he spoke quietly, yet sternly.  “i do not think right now is an appropriate time for such activities.  perhaps someone else can fulfill your desires; but, i am in no mood to spar.  perhaps some other time, but not right now.”

destiny about tripped over her feet when the king spoke to her, already struggling with the bags of groceries in her arms; she caught herself and the items in time to look over her shoulder to see just who it was.

 * ‘ oh– your majesty! my apologies, my head must’ve been in the clouds! ’ she attempted a curtsy, a very clumsy one may she add, as a sign of respect for the old man, * ‘ i’m doing well, actually,  just getting some last minute shopping for the holidays. what brings you to hometown? ’

“my dear, you needn’t refer to me as that anymore.”  he politely informed, “since i am no longer a king, just call me asgore.  though, most folks around here seem fond of the name ‘gorey’...”

he had a very casual look to him; what with his somewhat uncombed hair ( and beard ), a probably-one-size-too-small sweater, and some gray sweatpants.  he ran a paw through his beard, which he does when nervous, and chuckles a bit.

“and, besides, i don’t quite fit that description anymore.”  he admitted, blushing a bit before laughing at himself.  he always found humor in everything... it helped him get this far.

it was a rare sight to see; the once-king, strong and bold as he is, taking a nice little snooze...  especially if its outside at his balcony table.  he seemed very tired; the snoring was oddly quiet, and gentle.

when he heard footsteps approach though, he roused a bit.  he groaned softly and lifted his head, rubbing his eyes.  “goodness me...”  he yawned, and turned to look at the friendly skeleton.

“a ─ah!  papyrus, correct?”  he laughed a bit; he must have seemed so lazy to this restless monster.  “good morning!  or.. afternoon?  time has certainly flown by today...”
