DID YOU EVER? from Rick Berlin on Vimeo.
A year and half ago or so Paul Buckley took a concerted interest in my 80’s band - Rick Berlin: THE MOVIE. He listened to our old demos and had Brian Charles re-master those tracks for Paul’s label, LUNCH RECORDS. He named the revision ‘Celluloid Heroes’. He wondered if there might be video from those performances. I had nothing.
Last week Mike Mangini was digging through boxes of old VHS cassettes and upgrading them to mp4’s. One was of RBTM Live at The Channel!
The results flicker with video distortion and though the audio is not bad, the vocals a under mixed. One camera - no zoom, no pan, halfway back in the crowd. But the vibe, the night, the performance breaks through. I cleaned it up a tiny bit and added a handful of stills.
Unless you are a diehard fan of that band, this might not be for you. But I’m chopping it up into a few of the songs which I’ll post every week.
Like so many local bands, we loved The Channel. The place filled up night after night because ‘BCN played local tapes in drive time. We felt like stahs.
RBTM: Mike Mangini (kit), Jane Mangini (keys), Stephen Paul Perry (guitar, vox), Tom Shepherd (bass, vox), Julie Woods (vox), Nancy Adams (vox) and myself. Missing (not sure why) - Carter Timmins Boyajian (choreographer)
