The costuming choices in Hadestown regarding neckwear are just super interesting to me. The first notable division is the fact that the main characters all have some form of neckwear, and the ensemble, or chorus members, do not. However, it goes further than that. The female goddesses, (Persephone and the Muses) all wear black chokers. The mortals (Orpheus and Eurydice) both have bandanas. And the male gods (Hermes and Hades) both wear neckties— except Hades loses his necktie in Act 2. This is possibly to demonstrate the fact that he is meant to be viewed more as a man than a god in this part of the show, as he is called a man many more times in the second half of the show than in the first. In Act 2, Hades calls himself an old man on multiple occasions, and Orpheus compares Hades to himself, saying that he is also “a man, in love with a woman.” The Fates also warn that he may be viewed as a “heartless man”, as they sing about the conflict between his human feelings and kingly duties in Word to the Wise. The shift in lyrics and the change in costuming are reflections of each other.

All in all, the details of the neckwear and what they symbolize are just absolutely fascinating to me, and it’s yet another demonstration of how incredibly well thought-out this show truly is.

something i adore about hadestown is that it still meant something, y'know what i mean? like okay, no orpheus's song did not convince hades to give up his empire. hades' love for persephone isn't enough to deconstruct the machine he's built and has convinced himself that he needs in order to protect what he has. but he let them go. he saw the love eurydice and orpheus had for one another and it convinced him to let them try. orpheus may have turned around but they still walked, they almost made it. doubt set it but they were right there. that's further than anyone else can say. nobody else had made it that far. who's to say someone else can't make it a few steps further? persephone is able to leave the underworld and go home again when she needs to. spring has come again, if we're lucky autumn just might too. will this change be permanent? we don't know. but it's something. it doesn't knock down the wall but it's one brick out of it. and that means something. it wasn't all for nothing. it's a crack in the wall. there's a reason we keep singing this old song.

- she works at admin! i don't think we've seen that part of the skeld in the show yet.. my oc works at comms, so why not give her the other place not seen in the show?

- oh btw i'm keeping the she/her pronouns cause i figured it would be kinda funny/cool to keep it. did yall know heracles (the fish) is referred to as he/him in red's video game in the intro? i like to think that what gendered pronouns are to us, that's the equivalent of using it/its on an animal (though purple does use they/them on heracles to humanize/"crewmatize" them). sooo i think it's pretty neat to do that with gaty! we got neopronouns on the skeld holy guacamole. lol she got crt (colour replacement therapy) and used to be mahogany

I love to think Blue and Orange had each other’s backs in work related stuff, they’re both overworked to hell and they understand Mira isn’t just gonna help them or put their work/life balance into consideration, so they help each other instead

Orange feels guilty for having Blue help them, and are usually too scared to give away their work to someone else, but it’s Blue, they can trust that Blue won’t rat them out to Mira

Hey so someone brought up the idea of what if Blue didn’t die instantly when their face was torn off and instead what they died of was blood loss, and at first I was like “ha yeah can you imagine” but then I remembered that joke about doing a test to see if white was truly dead and like. I know it’s a joke but crewmates do seem very durable they aren’t like humans, and their head was still very much on their body so like. Could blue have survived getting their face ripped off

I do think people forget that Red was an ass before their character development and I think erasing that so they’re just the “uwu sweet silly baby” character removes the interesting flaws about them

Even worse when ppl dumb them down to a bag of bricks and never explore them in any other way, even though they realized the actual impact of their actions in later episodes and I think that also waters down the narrative and Red’s character.

Red finally dropped the act of being captain, like that was such a huge thing for them. They broke through the identity MIRA shaped their whole being into and started actually prioritizing Purple as a person, disregarding MIRA’s code completely.

The themes of this show wasn’t just a commentary of our hierarchical society and corporations dehumanizing their workers, but also taking responsibility for your own actions, even if there’s a reason for why you did something in the first place.

You can hurt someone and while not intentionally meaning it, that person was still harmed by you.

Being accountable is such an important thing and you can be both a victim and in the wrong at the same time.

Once again thinking about how Blue being the only medical personnel on board is the most stressful thing ever. The ship is falling apart and there ONE doctor to handle all the injuries that will inevitably happen 😭 they’re probably trying very hard not to express how much this shit annoys them. Lime, Brown and Yellow are all trying to weasel it out of them

Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks the dynamics when combining the unionized chefs, the conspiracy theorist and the “perfect” doctor would just be so funny. They all compliment each other in fun ways why don’t they get shown interacting moreeee. Two of them, lime and yellow, are more loud while Brown and Blue tend to be more level headed. Ofc brown, yellow and lime bond over fucking hating MIRA. Yellows one of the people I could genuinely see having the balls to call out blue being a hypocrite. Brown also being generally level headed and good at handling yellows stress would give them experience with that sort of thing, and at least subconsciously blue would probably begin to feel like they aren’t the only one in the group who people can lean on and feel less pressure. They’d totally try to get Blue to vent for once cause they know the fuckers stressed. YOU GOT TO SEE THE VISION OF HOW COOL THEIR FRIENDSHIP WOULD BE!!
