It’s happening! Our Porter shop is open for the first time in almost 5 months. When we closed, I thought that was it and that we wouldn’t make it through to see the other side. Winter is rough on us. Winter in a pandemic is almost impossible. Fortunately, many pieces fell into place allowing us to keep grooving. I’m invigorated and excited for what the year has to bring. It s a good day for reflection. One year ago today the “switch flipped” off for us as the pandemic forced students from their dorms, expelling many of our customers and employees. We had a busy 3/15/2020 as everyone said good bye. On 3/16/2020 it was a ghost town and it has stayed that way in one form or another. Our Porter shop closed that week and remained closed until the summer. Hard to believe it has been only a year since Governor Baker declared a state of emergency in MA. What a year. When it started I kinda thought/hoped we would be back to normal in a month or so. Then the universities closed, many of my employees were forced to leave, and customers were few and hesitant. We struggled on as best we could as a business with a lot of help from our customers, the government, and our amazing landlords (a special shout out to them). Thankfully we have been thus far blessed with good health. Reopening the Harvard shop this past weekend has brought on a lot of reflecting and hope for the future.
