Currently Reading: His Bloody Project - Graeme Macrae Burnet I’m enjoying the format of this - it’s an investigation into a triple murder that was ‘discovered’ by the author when researching his family tree, including an account from the murderer himself. It reminds me a bit of Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood.
Finished: 10 March 2017 Rating: 3/5
While I enjoyed the format of this, I didn’t find the actual plot all that interesting. You don’t get any real answers and I couldn’t find myself really caring about the main character.
Dream home!

Currently Reading: Americanah - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie This is beautifully written and I’m particularly enjoying reading Ifemelu’s experiences in America. Really looking forwards to seeing Chimamanda speak at Women of the World in London in March!

Americanah is the story of Ifemelu and Obinze, two teenage sweethearts from Nigeria and their lives as they grow up and move away from their home and lives - Ifemelu to America and Obinze to England.
This was a fascinating read that gave a real insight into race in America from the point of view of someone who had grown up in a country where their race had never been something they’d had to think about. It really stayed with me and I found myself missing the characters and wondering what they were up to, days after finishing the book.

Things to use as a bookmark:
Receipts
Clothes labels
Dollar bills (especially effective if you love outside the US because when are you going to spend that)
Post it notes
Scrap pieces of paper
Leaflets that got shoved in your face which you were too polite to refuse
Train tickets
Bus tickets
Just any old ticket will do really
Playing cards
Old birthday / Christmas cards
CLEAN tissues
Empty sweet packets
A bookmark which was actually designed to be a bookmark, if you are one of those rare people who actually knows where they are
Things not to use as a bookmark
Hair brushes
Your phone (you’ll need that)
The dog’s tail (dogs move)
A cat’s tail (see above)
Pens/pencils (unless it is extremely temporary)
Socks (this is weird)
Coasters (these are simply not good at this job)
Credit cards (YOU NEED THESE)
Homework due in the next day
Birthday / Christmas cards that need to be sent to someone else
Tickets that haven’t been used yet
THINGS TO NEVER EVER CONSIDER:
Dog earing the page
There is something seriously wrong with people who dog ear pages. I tend to go for an actual bookmark because it's fun buying ones with pretty designs!

Beautiful!
Hello!
My name is Bertie, I’m 24 years old and I live in England, near the sea.
I’ve been wanting to start a book blog for a looooong time and I thought it was finally time I gave it a go.
I read lots of different genres but I have a soft spot for sci-fi, dystopian, speculative and post apocalyptic fiction. I do quite like crime and thrillers too. Really though, I read a bit of everything.
Outside of reading, I love music - I play the guitar and the ukulele - and the theatre.
