kaaras-adaarâ:
Kaaras wished that his skin were as thick as Ashâs. His upbringing had been difficult for him, and he was a rather sensitive soul. At the end of the day, however, Kaaras was a proud man. He was proud of how far heâd come, of all his hard work, and the dedication heâd made to that work, as well as bettering himself as a person in general. He wasnât always this so well behaved.Â
The blush across his face only became more evident as the man complimented him. Was Ash even.âdare he think itâflirting with him? Surely he was just being kind, but the hand said otherwise, and Kaaras was pretty sure their eyes gazing into one anotherâs was becoming oddly intimate. It made him so very aware of his own body, of the space between them, of the blush that was consuming his entire face now. Makerâs arse, he must have looked like an idiot just standing there.Â
When the space between them became more breathable, Kaarasâ hand tugged gently on the bottom of his tunic as he gathered himself before he tucked his hands behind his back professionallyâa futile attempt at once more composing himself and trying to gain control of the situation.
âAh⌠well⌠that would be greatly appreciated,â he murmured sheepishly. Ash was right, though. The moment he went back inside, heâd have to talk to others, and to be quite honest he needed a moment to himself, and heâd also rather spend a little more time with Ash. He couldnât believe he was admitting that to himself, but he did find himself rather fond of the other man.
The moment Ash disappeared, Kaaras felt the weight of his shoulders drop and he leant against the railing of the balcony, putting his hands to his face.
âMakerâs breath, KaarasâŚâ he whispered to himself. He was such an awkward thing at times. Put him up against assassins and soldiers, and Corypheus, and heâd know what to do, but put him up against an attractive man who he was fond of and he didnât even know how to speak correctly.Â
[ â ]  â It was a good thing Kaaras acquiesced to the idea, since Ash had planned to be the one to go back inside anyway. People were less likely to bother him ; it was a fact, between how intimidating he looked ( with no effort expended ) , and he wasnât the Inquisitor. To most of the people at this party, he was just a Qunari in a too-snug outfit, but that was fine by him.
After checking in with Josephine and retrieving a glass of wine each for himself and Kaaras, he made his way back across the room and out onto the balcony, clearing his throat to ensure Kaaras knew he was there. It wouldnât have been the first time heâd startled someone ; nobody expected him to be capable of moving so quietly.
âHere we are.â He offered one of the glasses. âNot that Iâm trying to ply you with alcohol or anything, but sometimes Orlesians do know their wines.â He would have preferred something with a bit more... oomph, but he doubted there was decent mead or ale anywhere at the Winter Palace.
Actually, it was probably a good thing there wasnât anything else, regarding alcohol. Ash could handle his alcohol, but he wasnât about to risk embarrassing himself in front of someone he actually liked. Kaaras was a sweet man, and probably wouldnât be impressed by drunken antics.

mortuusbellatorâ:
FLUFFY LITTLE PUPPIES as they were, the wolf pups meant much more than simple companions to the elf - they were something in which made him feel like he was still his old self. Once upon a time he was such a proud male, an Emerald Knight of whom rode Halla into battle with wolven companions - and the pups he had now would be trained just as his, way back then, had been. âIâm sure they shall appreciate.â He uttered, giving a simple hand gesture to pull the wolves attention toward him and then command them to follow - something he had already instilled into them; the earlier he began training, the better. âAnd no need for you to move - if you do not mind some company?â Â
[ â ]  â The pups did look happy to see the elf... Surely a bit of food and companionship would be perfect for them. Ash grinned at how quickly the pups followed their protector - and with a shrug, he decided to follow as well. There wasnât anywhere better to be.
âYeah, that doesnât bother me.â He tilted his head. âDonât know if you eat much meat, but youâre welcome to share some of the food I caught earlier. I should have some fruit left as well, if youâd rather that.â Either way, he would make sure the pups had some meat.
24. How do they present themselves socially? What distinguishes their âpersonaâ from their âtrue selfâ, and what causes that difference?
[ MEME ]Â ||Â character development questions
-----
There honestly arenât too many differences between Ash in public and him in private. Heâs an upfront man, not prone to dishonesty ; after all, heâs not a fan of dishonesty in others, so the âselfâ others see is pretty much... well, Ash.
When among others, Ash can be a little more boisterous though. Heâs not afraid to take up space and make his presence known, so if anyone ever wants a distraction from themselves, heâs definitely the right man to be near. Itâs hard not to focus on him even when heâs not trying to be noticed, after all.
In private though, he doesnât bother with any of that. Quiet time is just as valued as some bustle, so Ash is happy to curl up with a good book or pet, or just spend some time chatting with friends and family. As a rule heâs more extroverted, but he does value some solitude now and then to recharge, so to speak.
ilensul-lavellanâ:
âWill you at least allow me to do that?â The Inquisitor didnât look angry at least, simply⌠saddened, at least just a little. He wanted to help, it had been clear since Ash had met him. The little elf wanted to help everyone it seemed. Being hindered from that goal undoubtedly upset him.
âI do know how,â he added hastily. âThere is a salve I have that works wonders on bruises. Gone overnight, swear to Sylaise.â It was difficult for some to say no in the face of Inquisitor Lavellanâs earnestâŚsweetness. His large eyes simply stared at the subject, wide and entreating and many simply gave in, even the hardened Lady Seeker.
âPlease. I just⌠I feel responsible.â Thankfully, Ilensul didnât need to go anywhere to attend to Ash with mundane healing treatments â heâd already brought his satchel of potions, salves, and bandages with him, as always. âI know I wasnât the one who actually did it but⌠they were Inquisition men, and Iâm the Inquisitor. Iâm supposed to be in charge. They shouldnât be attacking allies, even if drunk made them lose their sensibilities.âÂ
[ â ]  â It was pretty damn tempting to insist that he didnât need even that much, but Ash relented with a heavy sigh. Ilensul wasnât the blame ; he knew that, but he also knew the Inquisitor would be taking this very personally. Did he not realise how many people were foolish enough to see a Qunari as a challenge...?
âDo me a favour before you go poking at these wounds?â He gathered his hair back out of the way, tying it so he wouldnât have to hold it. âTake a few deep breaths and calm down. Iâm well aware that it shouldnât have happened, but trust me, Iâm used to it. Iâm not offended or anything.â Maybe a bit irritated, sure, but he hadnât exactly planned to kick asses tonight. All heâd wanted was a few drinks, then a quiet night of reading in his room.
So much for that, but oh well.
âAnd youâll probably over-think it and fret anyway, but you werenât responsible for this.â Ash raised an eyebrow then, a teasing note making its way into his voice. âUnless you sent those men at me, but Iâll assume that isnât the case.â

kaaras-adaarâ:
It was easier for Kaaras to twirl considering he was much shorter than Ash, so he did so gleefully as the other man led the dance. Heâd be lying if he thought that stopping wasnât a little disappointing. He was enjoying his time with Ash, even if the intimate contact was⌠definitely making his pants a little uncomfortable. Ash didnât need to know about that, though, and he was sure by the time he stepped back inside, heâd have himself under control.Â
As they stopped, he hesitated to let his hands off the other manâs body,. letting them fall to his side. He hadnât been expecting the contact, though, and he felt his cheeks warm once more from Ashâ hand against his cheek. Ah⌠Makerâs breath. Was he so touch starved that this made him melt like warm butter within the manâs fingertips. Topped off with the very accurate statement, Kaaras found that any kind of coherent thought wasnât quite making it past his lips.
Instead, the Inquisitor made a soft noise which could have been mistaken for a whimper. âI⌠uh⌠no, not really,â he admitted. Kaaras was always the honest sort, but it was times like this where any kind of filter was entirely stripped from him, and awkward truths spilled out.Â
âHow many Vashoth in Ferelden do you think there are?â he laughed sheepishly. âI was made aware very early on that I was⌠one of a kind, if I were to put it politely.â His eyes went to the other manâs hand that was still lingering against the heat of his cheek, his long ears lowering.Â
Well that little problem he thought he could get rid of was now a big problem. Makerâs breath, he hoped Ash didnât notice anything.
âItâs erm⌠quite warm out here,â he muttered, tugging lightly at his collar. âWhy donât I get us some drinks?â And a moment to pull himself together. Â
[ â ]  â It was impossible to miss that soft noise, at least for hearing as keen as Ashâs - but, he had enough decency that he wouldnât say anything. Kaaras looked embarrased enough as it was.
âPff, yeah. I know there arenât many of us in Ferelden.â It had been worse in Orlais though, compared to Ferelden. Orlesians were so damn snobby, and prejudiced... but oh well. It hadnât bothered him back then ; heâd made his peace long ago with always sticking out, and usually in the wrong ways. He couldnât make himself look human, or elven, or dwarven... so why bother trying?
Did it bother Kaaras that much though, that he stood out? His curiosity piqued now, he tilted his head, though his hand stayed at Kaarasâs cheek, cupping gently. âYou are one of a kind,â he added quietly. âIâm sure people have made that a bad thing in the past, but itâs not.â Kaaras was kind, generous, intelligent... but of course, he was different, so of course bastards would target him.
Warm... Yeah, it sure was, but at least he had an easier time of hiding that than Kaaras seemed to. ... but again, that wouldnât be mentioned.
âHow about I go inside and get us those drinks?â Ash offered. âSoon as you go back in there, they probably wonât let you escape again.â Would Kaaras really want to go inside, among all those people, when he was so visibly flustered?
The answer was likely no.

kaaras-adaarâ:
Kaaras could feel himself blushing. He wasnât sure if it was a compliment, that he was serious, but he blushed nonetheless. He couldnât help it, he felt that when any attention was on him in such a personal manner that heâd go red in the face. Terrible for someone with a position of power like him, but when he was being serious, it seemed to happen less. Maybe it was Ash, or maybe it was the fact that they were dancing, or maybe it was just Kaaras. Perhaps it was all.Â
Feeling his ears lower, he made a soft laugh as he looked to the side. âI suppose my humble upbringing is to thank for such qualities,â he admitted. His mother and father had always been caring, had always been honest. It was something that had been passed down to their son. Kaaras didnât understand or know how people could be so filled with hatred. What a tedious and tiresome life.Â
âBut donât sell yourself short, Ash, youâve been nothing but kind to me since we met.â His eyes returned to the taller qunari before him, looking at the gold and black. They were different eyes. Not scary like some might say, just different, and Kaaras knew what it was like to be different. Not many people enjoyed looking at the colour of his eyes. Red was unnatural to most people, or associated with monsters and demons. Just another thing to make Kaaras feel less like a person.
âI should thank you. Itâs been difficult knowing who is friend and foe in my position, but youâve always been honest with me. I appreciate honesty more than anything in a time like this.â His lips turned up to a gentle smile then as they continued to dance.Â
[ â ]  â He should have known Kaaras would compliment him in return, but Ash still smiled nonetheless. Maybe it was nothing more than some Qunari camaraderie, but it was nice not to be judged just on his appearance for once. Sure, he was a big, rough-looking guy with intimidating features, but few ever seemed willing to accept that he actually had a brain under all that, and that he could be quite gentle most of the time.
Case in point, how gently he held Kaaras while they danced. He didnât think Kaaras was breakable ; rather, he just enjoyed the delicacy of it all, and the chance to unwind after a stressful night. Theyâd damn well earned a bit of fun now.
âHey, youâve never given me a reason to be unkind to you.â Ash rolled his eyes. âAnd I think you know me well enough to know Iâm not fond of dishonesty either.â No, he was a man that preferred directness, no matter how hard it might be to hear at the time. Heâd proven that time and again since meeting Kaaras.
After a few more twirls, he guided them to a stop - but only so he could let go of Kaarasâs hand and brush his fingers over Kaarasâs cheek. âI like that blush,â Ash admitted, his voice gone soft. âYouâre not all that used to accepting compliments, are you?â
dryadalismagicaeâ:
YES, LYRIAN DID carry quite the number of dainty little bottles filled with various ointments, potions, brews and draughts - but each one had its purpose and each one had been carefully made by himself, so he knew the expanse of its potency. When purchasing potions and brews from another one could never be sure of its strength despite what was told, and you could never guarantee that they would always be the same. Making his own allowed for that security. âYou are certain?â Lyrian liked to make sure before he began that no pain relief was wanted; he honestly never understood why some denied it. Perhaps it was ego, perhaps it was a distaste for it - whatever it was, Lyrian could only nod and carry on, regardless. THE OINTMENT IN the bottle was daintily dropped onto the wound, and a rough cloth produced to scrub the wound, both outside and inside. A light foam came up as the elf did so, thoroughly making certain that he covered everything in the wound before rinsing it with some water; again, being sure he had gotten everything. âBear wounds are horrendous for infection - itâs always good to be absolutely certain itâs clean-â So he repeated his previous steps once more, hoping his companion was coping well with the discomfort.  Â
[ â ]  â  It wasnât quite that he was putting on any show of bravado  ( but really, he was ) - but rather that Lyrian really didnât need to get lashed out at from a bad reaction to magic. Ash still had yet to be comfortable around any sort of magic, even the benevolent kind... Best not to risk it, and just endure the discomfort of manual tending instead.
As it was, Lyrian was gentle enough that the pain was easily dealt with, and his only outward reaction was to clench his jaw occasionally. Suffice to say that the gentleness was appreciated.
âHah, yeah. Iâve had my fair share of animal wounds.â Ash dipped his head towards some of the scars on his other arm. âSome oâ those are from a Great Bear in the Emerald Graves. Damned thing got my friendâs arm, and nearly mine as well.â

âNo, you neednât move-â Lyrian offered a softened smile up towards the male as he continued tinkering with a few bottles; âIâve something that will help with clearing out any infection and debris - when I can find it-â Another smile as he returned to serveying the contents of his bag; finally founding what he needed. âIâm going to have to give it a rather harsh scrub. I do have something that will aid with the pain if youâd like it?â Â
[ â ]  â His curiosity piqued, Ash watched Lyrian tinker. Quite the heft amount of bottles there... Lucky for him, since he wouldnât have any healing magic used on him if he could help it - and to Lyrianâs credit, he hadnât batted an eye at the request. Good for him.
âNah, I can handle pain.â He settled more comfortably where he was sitting, gathering his hair over the opposite shoulder so it wouldnât be in Lyrianâs way. âDonât worry, I wonât squirm or anything. A bit of scrubbing and stitching wonât rate much for me.â

SENRETHâS BROWS CONTINUED to furrow very deeply until he had finished analysing the male for himself. He wouldnât take anyoneâs panicked utteringâs as truth - that would have been foolish for any could mutter anything to get out of a dangerous situation. For now, however, he lowered and then sheathed his blade. UPON THE KNIGHTS approach did the pups grow excited, and his own face momentarily softened to adore their very beings. Their company had been wonderful, even if their coming to him had been in terrible circumstance and he finally began to feel more like himself because of it. âTheir fur is thick enough to stave off the cold - but theyâll always appreciate something to eat.â And their appetites would grow with them.Â
[ â ]  â Tense as it all was, Ash was a patient man, and he was content to wait for as long as the elf took to make his mind up. If he was looking after the pups, then small wonder that he would be so cautious.
The Qunari nodded his understanding, his own expression softening when the pups showed their excitement. Yeah, this stern, prickly elf was definitely a softie somewhere in his heart, if he was so protective over those fluffy little puppies.
âIâve got some druffalo meat they can have,â Ash said, pointing over his shoulder with a thumb. âGot a campsite set up just past the trees there, in one of the caves. You and the fluff-balls are welcome to borrow it - or I can find somewhere else if youâd prefer some privacy.â
