Placement week 5
Last week of placement and I have been doing pretty much the same tasks as the previous weeks. This has included, sewing up toiles, ironing calico so that it is ready for the toiles, tracing and adding seam allowance to patterns and adding swarovski diamante crystals to lace. When doing the patterns, I had to iron them after with no steam to get rid of the fold lines to make it more accurate when cutting out. Also for the crystals, I added rose gold ones as well to the standard crystals. I also learnt how add ribbon to the back of the corset on the toile as a fastener. I also unpicked toiles for retoiling. For example, unpicked the bodice from the skirt because a second toile needed to be made as the skirt was alright but the bodice did not fit.

Placement week three
So today marks the end of week three of placement. I have been busy doing many activities for these past few weeks. Firstly, I worked on couture hand finishes of the wedding gowns. This included sewing on hanging loops on the garment using a stitch called the satin stitch. When sewing it on, I had to make sure it was sewn on very securely as it would be carrying a lot of weight. As well as this, I started affixing swarovski diamante crystals onto the lace appliques I cut out in the first week. I used a special tool like a mini iron to stick the crystals on. Each crystal had to be placed in a specific place and then stuck down with the tool for 40 seconds each. As the diamantes were so small, it was fiddly to use at first but then I was able to get the hang of it. Also, on some of the lace appliques, I hand sewed swarovski diamantes onto them. Had to hand sew it on with a bit of tension in order for it not to fall off. Another thing I had to do was unpick the boning and zips neatly from some of the old toiles. This was so that it could be reused again to make other toiles. Finally, this week I also did some of the tasks I did in the first week which was making toiles, tracing out patterns and adding seam allowance to patterns. I look forward to the remaining two weeks of placement and to learning more things.
Placement week one 04/16
This week I started internship. I have been interning at Kosibah couture. Kosibah is a couture bridal and evening wear designer. This week I have been working closely with the designer Yemi Osunkoya to complete various tasks. Yemi established the Kosibah brand in 1991. I started off by working on the patterns. Tracing them out and adding seam allowance round them. The seam allowance used on the patterns varied between 1cm, 2cm and ½ an inch or no seam allowance. I also cut out the patterns on calico and the main fabric and added notches to them. As well as patterns, I was given the opportunity to sew up a couple of toiles of wedding dresses. Doing this, I learnt a different method of inserting boning and pressing on interfacing. Lastly, another activity I worked on this week was cutting out lace appliques. I have enjoyed placement so far and have been able to learn from it.
Placement started and I've been working on bridal dresses. First few days have been enjoyable 🙌🏾
