“Why, tales HELP you to WONDER.” graciously explained one of the baby succubi. “It is NASTY and BORING not to wonder at all. But you said you do it yourself, so you know already.”
Not only were the little tricksters engaged in an unusual activity of gathering bark. There was a weird apparatus behind their backs, where they stored their ‘hunting game’. Upon a closer inspection, it proved to be a wooden wash-tab. The resourceful twins stole it from a washing site of a human settlement, together with some ropes. Technically, it was not even a theft. Haven’t they left some sweet berries, hard-to-get herbs and a harmonica, made of reed and painted (a bit clumsily) with plant juices, in exchange?
The cheerful sisters was very keen on their booty. It slided and allowed to carry lots of useful things inside it! Moreover, it was gaudily painted with some fanciful flowers and herbs. Natanis and Nistana spend hours admiring the piece of human handiwork.
“You said it is YOUR home. We DIDN’T mean to cross uninvited”. The twins fumbled with their hooves, as if trying to locate an unseen border. Looking shy, they made a few tentative steps back. Tails circled around each other’s wrists, as human hands do in search of safety of a familiar touch.
“We need just a little dry bark. From a fallen tree over there! I’ll get some and be back in NO TIME”.
“Please! Please!” two pairs of pleading eyes, large and innocent as those of a gentle fawn, looked up to the older creature.
“You yourself have no need of it. You are HANDSOME.”
“VERY Handsome. I wish we HAD such handsome vampires in OUR pack.”
A HEARTY LAUGH leaves the young vampire at the mention of him being ‘handsome’ -- such innocent little creatures, it would be difficult to say no to them, particularly with those glittering doe eyes looking up at him. Dettlaff had always been weak towards youngsters no matter the species, and these succubi would be no exception.
❝ You are more than free to gather as much bark as you please, little ones. All athumica are welcome in this forest as long as they pose no threat to my pack, and I can see your motives are pure. Would you care if I helped ? It would make the task easier and quicker for you. ❞
❝ I was not made aware that succubi traveled in packs. Usually, it is only the lower kin that group themselves in such large numbers... though one might say I am unique in that regard. ❞
❝ ... might I ask what that is you carry behind you ? ❞ Dettlaff tilts his head to the side to get a better look at the strange-looking object -- it was quite curious in appearance, and the patterns painted on the side looked most interesting to Dettlaff’s artistic eyes. He wished to get a closer look and to understand what exactly it was he observed.
