caitlin lets out a labored breath , staring up at you as u settle down on the couch beside her. her eyes are glassy and hazy, likely from all the drinks, and u notice, profoundly titillated by it— how hard she's working to keep herself here, like she wants to experience you clearly, not blur you away.
"thought u were gonna fall asleep on me," you tease softly, smiling over at her. you're sort of gone yourself—you'd not usually been the drinking type, but you wanted to loosen up when she told you she'd come back to your place after the bar.
she pffts like that’s utterly unbelievable, shaking her head adamantly and tipsily. "you know i’d never fall asleep on you."
"wellllll," you drawl out, glancing shyly at your lap, "what do you wanna do? if i thought there was any chance in hell you’d be coming home with me tonight, I woulda planned better."
she shrugs, sheepish but playful. "no need. think we can figure it out ourselves."
"yeah?" you murmur, and she nods, her hand lacing into yours stealthily, long fingers easing between yours, palm perfectly warm. you hold her back, squeezing shy and thoughtlessly, and she simpers at u endearedly, throwing her head back with a breathy laugh.
"got so nervous when i caught you staring. thought to myself, like, is she actually looking at me? and not just because she feels obligated." she suddenly thinks aloud, other hand palming her face in embarrassment. you blush, warm and helpless under her charm.
"could u tell I was staring on purpose? kept doin' the thing with my lashes." you say, crooking her chin down to demonstrate and making her watch your reenactment. fuck, she looks lost in your eyes. also, like she clearly savored the dominant action.
cait licks lightly at her own lips, her hazel eyes flicking down to your lips, then back up to your eyes cyclically, completely absorbed in your beauty.
she shakes her head, depthless and mindless of anything, slight for you. "not then. thought you'd never want anything to do with me."
you laugh quietly, soft and almost disbelieving. "are you kidding? been crushin’ on you forever."
her brows knit for half a second, like she’s trying to decide if she’s allowed to believe that, and then she scoots just a little closer. your knees touch. neither of you moves them away.
"you’re serious," she says, more to herself than you.
"dead serious," you reply, thumb brushing once over the back of her hand. it’s barely anything, but she inhales like it’s everything.
her free hand comes up to your hair, tucking it out of your face. " i mean…" she rasps desirously, "you're so beautiful."
"c-could say the same about you," you stammer out.
for a moment, you guys just sit there—too close, breathing the same air, eyes bouncing between each other’s faces like they're magnetized. her lips part, then press together again, nervous. yours curve into a small, helpless smile.
"cait…" you murmur, not even sure what you were gonna say.
she answers by leaning in. slow. careful. giving you all the time in the world to pull away.
your lips meet in a soft, tentative kiss—more a question than anything else—and she melts instantly, hand tightening in yours like she’s been holding herself together all night just for this. her free hand slides up to your jaw, thumb brushing lightly over your skin, tilting your face toward hers. instinctively, your hands come to rest on her waist, fingers splaying gently against her sides, grounding her as she leans closer. the kiss lingers, unhurried, sweet and dizzying, and when you finally pull back, you’re both smiling like idiots.
"yeah," you whisper. "kinda what i was thinkin’."
