Process for a mock-up book cover of The Baby Dragon Cafe. This was a bit of a nightmare because of the amount of detail I added, and some I didn't. I also hadn't really painted a dragon before and knew Sparky had to be CUTE! After about 100 hours, I'm finally happy with the result.

I am so proud of this piece! Sent this one in to Fairyloot so wish me luck! I really enjoyed When the Moon Hatched, and loved painting all the little details on Kaan and Raeve.

These were painted in watercolour and I had so much fun playing with them!

Can you guess the book? A lot of the footage wasn't recorded and I don't know why (sobs 😭). This illustration took a long time because I didn't know I was coming down with covid and had a clear picture in mind. I got there eventually 😁

What do you think the story is?

I have a habit of turning all my pictures into dtories, is it a bad habit? I can't decide! But I'm loving working on these mock book covers! This was originally a monochrome mermaid but I coloured it in PS, so satisfying! I might try selling the colour version as a print 😍

Planning illustrations for my first novel, Splendid Thieves, which takes place in a neo-Victorian, steampunk, India. I want this book heavily illustrated, specifically to help neurodivergent readers who need visual aids.

For this first chapter I want the read to feel like they're walking into the story. I'm thinking of painting this in loose watercolour.

Experimenting with Dr Ph Martins concentrated watercolours, I wanted a bright, smooth background that wouldn't granulate. I can't get over the saturation 🤯 Hoping the rest of the illustration turns out OK 🤞🏻🥺🤞🏻 please don't let the masking fluid tear the paper this time 🙇‍♀️

I wanted to give him a wizened old sailor look and I feel I finally got there 😁

I like to think of painting hair as 'sculpting out of paint'. On one layer I paint in a hard edge brush, making adjustments until I get the shapes and values I like 😊
