It's been a long time, folks but I'm here still. I'm down to one tank since moving and sadly, not even a properly scaped one at that, but I'll fix that once I get my reptile rack set up. Since the last time I posted, I lost my boy Kydoimos to a tumor, and this guy wormed his way into my heart while I was buying food for my geck. So, introducing Kerberos!

Still Alive!
Just an update since I have been kinda quiet. Me and my babies are still alive and well despite some troubles following moving. I am now back to work and will be starting on restocking the plants that melted in the move as well as upgrading my community's lights since my AquaSky broke and I'm now relying solely on my old Nat Geo LED. My tanks are bouncing back from the move and everyone is going strong. Community tank is super dark with tannins right now, so it’s hard to snap pictures but all is well! Ky has calmed down from his obsessive flaring but otherwise is still his angry ole self. Merida ripped her anal fin and it grew back in crooked, but she’s still her goofy self. The bump on her chin has gotten bigger but she’s not losing weight or having trouble eating so I’m just watching her.

So I’m freaking out. One of Sterling’s gills are bleeding. I don’t know what to do about it or if I can even do anything.. He’s in a divided 10 gallon and the other fish is fine. He has an obsession with eating bubbles which caused his swim bladder to have problems, but in this tank he doesn’t have bubbles to get to. He’s not breathing with his gills. Like he’s not moving them at all. The parameters are 0/0/10 and I just did a water change. Is there anything I can do??

I’ve never had to deal with bleeding gills so I’m at a loss. My first instinct would be to lower the water so he can get to the surface easier and make sure his water stays crystal clean until he heals up. With bettas able to breathe the air, he may be able to breathe and heal. I usually don’t like to medicate a lot, but Methylene blue may be beneficial. It helps with ammonia poisoning and is a very mild antifungal, some breeders use it with eggs if that gives you an idea of how gentle it is. Might help him breathe easier since it helps increase oxygen in the blood by turning methemoglobin(hemoglobin cells poisoned by ammonia, cyanide, nitrites, etc.)back into hemoglobin. Otherwise, I really don’t have a clue. Not something I’ve had to treat.
I have him a homemade mesh basket at the top of the water so he doesn’t have to swim up to the surface. His gill has stopped bleeding, but he’s still not breathing with his gills normally. When I run to the pet store I’ll look for methylene blue!
I don’t know of any big stores that carry it, you may need to order it. I got mine from a specialty LFS, if you live in Texas (not sure where you’re at) Fish Gallery has stores in Houston, The Woodlands, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth. Not sure if they have any other exhibit rooms in the US, but that’s where I got mine. I use it on all new arrivals as a precautionary measure. My bottle is from Fritz Pro Aquatics. Any clue what may have caused it? Only cause I can think of is that he pecked at something hard and tried to cough it back out his gills (like a pellet, gravel, etc)

Depends on your definition of sooo big, boa imperators average at 5.5-8 feet long with large exceptions being in the 9 foot range. I’ve yet to see a boa imperator reach 10 foot.
Super Platinum South American Arowana. Gorgeous rarity and expensive too boot, this one beautiful fish. But await the next posting, if you think this one is beautiful…
