What Learning French has done to me

-My friends send me french memes all the time.

- Somehow I have a french accent when I try to say something in spanish. I said rio grande with a long A the other week and I felt my credentials as a Texan slipping away

- when I say please excuse my french I actually mean it.

-my spelling is better in french than it is in english. (not a high bar tbh)

-trying to figure out if I should put bilingual on my resume

-One time in high school I was in the band hall taking with my friends and I said “notre dame” the correct way. Fuckin Kyle the drum major hears me, butts into the conversation and goes “umm.. its notre dame” like noter daim, like the university…. the audacity. 

- having a mental break trying to remember a word only to look it up and find out its a cognate.

I am going to stop taking notes now. It is taking a long time to take notes, especially for me as I like to take time to make it pretty. Instead of taking notes, I started to just try to read and understand the lecture notes, close the book and try to write everything from memory on a blank paper. Other than that, explaining the topic to my family without looking at the textbook really helps as well.

hey full offense but the ‘use the right pronouns even if the person is horrible!’ statements arent made to coddle horrible ppl, its saying ‘dont view correct pronouns as a fucking privilege that can be taken away once people decide you’ve fucked up enough’, misgendering someone on purpose is transphobic no matter what bc it equates transphobia as a ‘punishment’ for bad people, pronouns are a part of baseline human respect, its that simple

seriously like if you say “it’s okay to misgender bad people” then sets the standard that you can misgender ANYONE who you have deemed to be ‘bad’, which quickly morphs into misgendering anybody you don’t like for any minute reason. it’s a big fuckin slippery transphobic slope. 

also, sorry if this is off track, but i’ve seen people do this with antisemitism too. When Mark Zuckerberg was on trial, the Jewish jokes and antisemitic comments came leaking out of the woodworks. Sure zuckerberg is a twat but that shit is still inappropriate and unnecessary. It’s like wanting to hurt one person, so you decide to attack an entire group of people to get to them. shit’s messed up.
