being so ooc and fr: i thought s2 was a massive westernised downgrade. i haven’t seen s3 yet but have been mostly spoiled and icl i wish they left it at s1. i’m not frustrated at gihun becoming morally grey—or worse, even, or the ending being ‘sad’, i’m frustrated at the complete 180 in writing, it became a parody of itself as soon as s2 released. i was betting 100% on gihun killing himself, but all of the things i’ve heard about it is just. laughable. honestly, especially his characterisation.

i will be taking most if not all of my character inspo from s1 and the first ep of s2 only. i don’t think they put enough effort in his writing to warrant me caring past that point. there are possible small details and interesting analysis points i may take from s3 as canon, but other than that i’m sticking to s1 and post-sg / s2ep1.

not to sound too serious, but gihun is a very meaningful character to me, so i want to write him to the best of my abilities. i’m very passionate about him and the show, but strictly the tone and social realism of s1. i’ll be slowly writing on here and putting out drabbles and calls, i want to bring gihun back to the depth he deserves rather than leaving him in shallow unsatisfactory waters that feel rushed.

additionally: this is not a go at any writers who love their s2 muses, i think you all do an amazing job with what little you’re given in terms of characterisation. i just personally am not a fan of s2 (and most likely s3), however, i am a fan of your guys’ analysis and writing pushing past surface level. far more than the actual writers did LOL.

not to preach sangihun but god. they had something going there. am i preaching to the choir, yes, but also sangwoo had totally kissed gi-hun whilst drunk & he had never let go since, always wondering if they should’ve ever become a thing. to finally voice how he felt after all those years of brushing hands & nervous whispers in college dorms. even if it risked further discrimination in the face of society, he calls every few days at the minuscule chance that he might pick up, that he can confess & feel the kind of adoration he’d never felt since. sangwoo choosing to disconnect due to his wedding being the last straw, with gi-hun never forgiving himself from trying to escape his love just to be ‘more accepted’. they make me ill.

a little ramble on gihun’s mentality after s1 — specifically his justice sensitivity versus his intensely violent intrusive thoughts. he cannot justify murder, even at the end of s2 when he knows if they don’t fight they will all die—he feels intense guilt alongside dissociative disconnect to his body, but both mental & physical torture ( ex. overly elaborate methods of torturing the frontman, pulling out finger nails, removing his tongue, cutting his achilles, etc. ) constantly plague his mind as a kind of repayment for what he went through & what others he loved experienced, & he’s then met with the constant dilemma that he’s no different from the guards, the vips, … the frontman. this being stated, he NEVER acts on the intense scenarios in his head, only resorting to quick violence when there is no other option / it has to be done to prevent the games. losing the last remainders of humanity he desperately keeps close to his heart keeps him up every night, but he is right in his rage, right ? he has to be right, he has to be moral, ignoring the deep-seeded fear he is no better than those that made him this way.

#i think it’s obvious to say he is not at the level of the guards or especially the frontman #but he has this complex that he is and that these thoughts caused by his experience validate that #lorddd you need to see a therapist #that being said. they wouldn’t believe him and also. it wouldn’t be rid of the knowledge of all the deaths #study.
