See you again in 2015
Well that's all folks! Thanks for reading and to all those that took part! The consensus seems to be that this years Bett show was a step up from the previous year and we look forward to what the next brings. For now, so long!

One of the 'wow, that's cool' moments happened when getting an overview of the excellent ClassCharts system from EduKey. It's free in its basic form, with upgrades available for advanced analytics and AI features, such as automated intelligent seating chart generation. Well worth a look as there is a lot more to it than we can sensibly write here!
Virtually Everything
My first day at BETT. I am sure everyone will agree, the sheer scale and size of the show is overwhelming. In terms of what the show can offer students and teachers - well it’s virtually everything. Every possible aid, gadget and app available, ready to make learning exciting and relevant. Students can take their learning environments to wherever they want and the technology supporting it is literally out of this world. The challenge for educationalists has to be how to embrace the scope of what is now available and embed it into everyday classroom practice. The pace of change is incredible; thinking about the average span of a teacher’s career, begun even thirty years ago, when resources were made on Banda machines and there was no such thing as word processing, shows just how far technology has pushed the boundaries and possibilities for learning. In an age where virtually everything is possible and technology can facilitate and support every aspect of life in a school I am still drawn to technology with a human face. What do I mean by that? Well, I think that gadgets for gadget’s sake need the skills of an excellent teacher to bring them to life and ensure that they are used appropriately to develop the potential of the students. It is evident everywhere you turn at BETT that here are hugely enthusiastic teachers searching for the best resources to support their schools and the students they teach. Walk past many of the stands and you will see people in awe of the latest piece of kit or developmental idea to help students learn. The curriculum is now open for business twenty four hours a day and not confined to library opening hours or the school timetable. So in an age of virtually everything are we ready for virtual schools? I saw a virtual school in operation at BETT called BT Tute Stand F389. It offers virtual lessons online via an e-tutoring model. What makes it different in this technological age? It offers excellent lessons delivered online via a live video feed with real teachers. Technology with a human face, a teacher who can interact with pupils and ensure that they are learning the content of the lessons. I can see many possibilities for this. Anyone can pull a lesson from the internet but how do we know that the content is being processed and understood? Who is there to praise if a task is done well or offer support and solutions if it hasn’t been understood? That is my point, technology can offer virtually everything, technology with a human touch is also very important. I am off now to find other examples of this ….. will keep you posted! Mary.
Quadblogging!
Just had a great chat with @deputymitchell about quadblogging. It’s a great way to showcase what your class are doing. It’s a great project for a class. We will be having a go.
e-schools is a whole school “one solution” platform. Having seen a demo this morning it is certainly cutting edge, easy to use, child, teacher & parent friendly. It must be on any schools must have list.
Touchscreen technology has come a long way in the last twelve months. It certainly looks like the days of the data projector are numbered. The only downside at the moment is the cost. A the market becomes more competitive this will surely adjust though. Triumph board & BenQ are certainly fun product to try out.
Just listening to a talk from Appshed. This is the future. Another great product that's FREE!! definitely making its way into my curriculum.
An interesting cost effective way to get into 3D Printing. @goprint3d are offering a 3D printer at less than £1500 inc VAT. This would definitely be a great asset to any ICT/DT dept. checkout the 'Doodler' as well. Endless possibilities.
Just had a great talk from these chaps at Lego. It is certainly a great solution to fulfilling programming in the new computing curriculum. Lots of cross curricular activities as well. I will certainly be following this one up.
In case you missed it live, listen again to the fantastic Russell Prue interviewing Sir Bob Geldof at the show on Toshiba Radio, stand C140
The first night of the show sees the Bett Awards take place, with this year's compere Jo Brand taking the helm at the Brewery in London. An ever growing category list saw a host of awards received by a varied mix of educational technology suppliers. Many congratulations to all those that one! Look out for the hefty silverware on your walk around the show.
Bett has begun!
Stands are already buzzing with excitement as the first delegates enter the ExCeL arena. Make sure you follow all the action on twitter using #bett2014 and of course right here, as we post updates through the show.
BETT stand builds are well underway. Even half-built, the stands are looking fantastic. Will be great to see it all in full swing tomorrow.
Less than 24hrs to go
This time tomorrow the doors will have opened and the 30th annual Bett show will be in full swing. Exhibitors are busy putting the final touches to their stands and pouring into local hotels, as delegates from far and wide begin to arrive in to the capital. Are you one of them? What are you most looking forward to seeing?
Betts Building!
There has been a lot of activity on Twitter today with many exhibitors posting photos of the Excel centre gradually coming to life. It certainly looks like it’s going to be a great show. Fabulous keynote speakers seem to be popping up all over the place. The Excel centre is a hive of activity and everyone is excited about the grand opening with Michael Gove. Looking for something specific for your school? Keep an eye on this blog!
A child rescue alert is raised when a child is abducted and is considered to be in imminent danger. Quick action by police, media and the public can make all the difference.
If you do anything this week, whether at Bett or not, then please register for the UK Child Rescue Alerts service. It's free and you might just save a child's life.
Pearson (@edexcel) have posted a link to watch their Bett 2014 seminars live during the show, so if you won’t be there in person you can still catch them here
