A correction - I call Henry David Thoreau's Walden; Or Life in the Woods just Into the Woods because I think living alone in a cabin is equivalent to a fairy-tale musical. As I mentioned in the podcast, I didn't read much of it at all.

Just a couple of things we got wrong right off the bat - Sargon of Akkad conquered Sumeria (not just Sumer) to form the Akkadian Empire, first empire in human history. This is why he’s called Sargon of Akkad. This makes Lugalane an Akkadian citizen as well. Enheduanna would have written in the Sumerican cuniform as the Akkadians did not have a writing system of their own until their took over Sumeria. :)

In this episode we do a fair bit of talking about the humanitarian crisis at the US/Mexico border. If you’re concerned, consider donating to relief funds. We donated to Save the Children. We also purchased Dreaming America, published by Settlement House Press. The book is a collection of translated poems from young people in detention centers. Sales of the book go to support legal funds for those detained in border camps.

Recall midnight thirty on Friday morning, where this episode’s initial post was sogged in sleepiness and generally unenthusiastic. Promises were made, and broken.
But now it’s mid-morning Sunday (for those keeping track) and I am finally ready to give this post its proper due. It deserves hype. For whatever reason, I felt like using the old logo. Joel and I are thinking about switching up the art for each episode, but haven’t committed yet.
We have an awesome guest on this episode, and you can hear him read the poem in the original Chinese. We talk about birthdays, and Saddam Hussein. It’s worth listening to, really.
