Source’s cheap makeup starter pack for WoC

Cus why pay out the ass when you can get them cheaper and still look fly?

Brushes:

ELF is your friend cus their standard brushes are $1, while their studio collection is $3. I personally fucks mainly with the studio collection for my contouring and such. Real good stuff.

EcoTools is also a really decent line to go for and are easily accessible at most drugstores

Morphe brushes are a bit more expensive but most aren’t over $10 and they are really good quality.

Also, you can get beauty blenders really cheap on Amazon if you are ordering online and in stores like walgreens or target

Primers

ELF again is a realy good brand for under $5. Their illuminating primer really does do well and I like it because it’s lightweight.

NYX has some damn good face primers. They are a bit more expensive (~$20) but I love their shine killer and pore filler for when I prime.

Urban Decay’s primer potion is my tried and true, swear to god, cross my heart and hope to die primer of choice for my eyes, okay? I wear my eye shadow 5 days a week, every week to work. I have had a tube for almost a YEAR before I had to buy more. All you need is a DAB. DASSIT. The primer is $20 but that shit is an investment cus if you don’t do eye shadow that often like I do, you’re essentially SET.

Foundations/Concealers

ELF once again (I’m so serious. They got good shit for cheap) has a nice array of foundation and concealer for about $6 a pop. Their skin tones range from pale to about medium brown. Not too many darker colors, unfortunately

Black Opal is a black owned company that does really well with dark skin, from light skinned to very dark. A definite must for the darker skinned makeup wearer. They have really good full coverage foundation and concealer as well. Most products are under $10 so it’s a good way to start doing full face contouring

Black Radiance is an affiliate of Wet n Wild that caters to the darker skinned makeup wearer and carries light medium to very dark skin tones. I like their concealers for when I do contouring because they have a duo that works well for my tone. Again, most are under $10.

NYX has a nice array of colors and their foundation is only about $8. Carries from paler to medium brown colors.

Iman is also a black owned company that carries foundations for the darker toned makeup wearer. Her line is a bit more expensive, but it’s only about $16 for foundation and concealer

Shea Moisture is black owned and a newer contender in teh makeup world but still I love it so. They have a good range of foundation colors so it’s good for the darker skinned makeup wearer. A bit pricier (~$16) and the contouring pack is $25.

Australian women of colour! I want to add that Cosmetics Plus (in the brick and mortar shops I've been into) have had the full range of Revlon Colorstay foundation for around $24.95. I've never even seen the full range in priceline.

#Liptember day 9 - the Saga of the Lip Stain Review Edition. Some of you might remember from last year that I am on a quest for the perfect lip stain. Lip stains are perfect for days where you need a bit of colour but don’t want to feel like you’re wearing a heavy lipstick. I took advantage of Chemist Warehouse’s Liptember Cosmetics sale and picked up this Revlon Colourstay Moisure Stain in 005 Parisian Passion ($10 on sale!). This shade gives me the ‘eating dark berries and the blood of my enemies’ colour, which I love. It has a surprisingly creamy texture, but unlike other stains it doesn’t completely dry, making me feel like I’m wearing lip gloss. It’s not entirely bad, but kind of unexpected. I’ve heard good things about Korean skincare so I thought I would give some a go but there’s so many products, I have no idea where to start. I’m the kind of person that will trial and error products so I thought the Korean Beauty Sample Box would be a good item to buy. The guy on the left (Essano Rosehip Regenerating Facial Moisturiser) = good. The guy on the right (Swisse Rosehip Facial Moisturiser) = bad. I’d been using the Swisse one for probably a bit over a month and couldn’t figure out why my skin was looking so shitty (more breakouts than i’d had since I was a teenager), thought maybe I needed a new brush for my Clarisonic, washed all my makeup brushes, worried about a new foundation I’d been trying out etc. Then after not using the Swisse one for two days and switching to the Essano one, my skin is looking super clear and nice and almost back to normal! So yay for me and I’d recommend avoiding the Swisse Rosehip Moisturiser. #skincare #rosehip #essano #swisse #moisturiser #facialmoisturiser

I’ve worn ColorStay since 1996. Recently they changed the bottle to a pump lid and I’m pretty sure there is less product now. Or the pump must expedite usage. Either way I’m pissed about it. I am a loyal user mainly because I have extremely oily skin with acne and scars and I need to wear a solid half centimetre of make up on my face or I feel naked and I don’t want my trowelled on face of slap to slide off because I have hyperhidrosis.

Another gripe along the same vein - Maybelline Master Precise Master Liner used to last for ages and now I barely get a month out of it. Today it was out of stock so I bought the Lasting Drama gel liner. I don’t have a good history with gel liners but the package promised it was waterproof and smudge proof. These watery, hooded eyes of mine will put that claim to the test! (I'll do that in a future post.)

The Bioderma micelle solution was recommended to me by a friend so I thought I may as well buy some because I’ve always got a tonne of ColorStay sand beige hanging around my facial area and I could stand to find a new way to scrape it off. I never buy skin creams but I bought the “Sebium AKN” because I didn’t have enough fake French packaged beauty products in my bathroom. I just want to feel fancy.

The Sensibio H20 took my make up off but I went through six Swissper pads before I was satisfied most of it had been removed. I’m now feeling deep guilt about my contribution to land fill and next time I will use a face washer. The pump action thinger is nice. I’ve been pouring stuff out of bottles for far too long, it ends NOW!

Is it wrong that I want to drink it though? It looks like a refreshing beverage.
