How to get the most out of your Wedding Make Up Trial
I thought I’d write a little note about how to get the most out of your wedding trial with you make up/hair artist. There are afew simplw steps that will maximise your chances of getting what you want the first time around.
Many of my brides have often had trials with other make up artists before they find me. It is more common than I would hope and can be a waste of time and money, two things of which you have a lack of when planning a wedding! :)
Your trial:
First of all, your trial is exactly what it calls itself. A trial. It is designed to give you a change to try out a few different looks and find out what suits you best. Your chosen make up and hair look should compliment you, they style of your dress and the chosen feel of your wedding and wedding colours.
1) Be prepared! Bring along a picture of your dress, tell you artist about your venue, your colour scheme, your flowers. This will help them to get a feel of how you want to look for your big day.
2) Bring along images of make up and hair styles that you like. You can find pictures on the internet and in bridal magazines. This will help your artist to get a feel of what you do and do not like. We all imagine things very differently, so it is sometimes easy to think you are on the same page, where as you are actuallyreading from a different book!
3) Wear a plain white or cream top. Colours that you wear alter what make up will suit you. If you are in a colour similar to your wedding dress it can give you a better idea of how you will look on the wedding day. For example: white can often wash peoples skin out making them look pale, it’s easier to judge if you are wearing a simmilar colour to your dress as to how much blusher/bronzer you will need to have wear.
4) Don’t be afraid to talk to your artist, they have a lot of inofmration that can help you! If something is not quite right for you, tell them! They can only go by what you say and it’s better to bring it up at the time so you can try something else out. It will often be something small like adding an extra coat of mascara-simple!
5)Professonal photography; Bear in mind that it is important to have enough make up on so that it will show up well on camera. You will be looking at these pictures for years to come so you need to look perfect! This may mean wearing a litle more make up than you usually do, but by no means do you need to be caked in make up! Your make up artist should be able to find the right balance for you to feel comfortable face to face with your guests, and look stunning on camera at the same time.
6)Be realistic! Remember that images for wedding magazines and wedding gown shops have been retouched on a computer. There is also a make up artist/hair stylist on hand to get the hair just right for that specific shot. Try and look for reference images that suit your hair length and can realistically be achieved. If you are happy to use hair extensions to achieve your chosen look, it can be a good idea to le your artist know in advance of your trial.
I hope these little tips about how to get the most out of your make up/hair trial have helped you out! I’ve been able to narrow down the points from years of experience working on weddings. Good luck!
