so - we’ve moved out of our house because our landlord has decided he wants to move into it. i’ve gone from living with two people and four rats to living with six people, four rats, two cats, a dog and two rabbits. i’m not complaining and it’s only me staying in my very generous friends’ spare room til we get something sorted but ooh boy this is not how i expected this year to go.

i quit sephora and now i feel much more comfortable being able to talk about my issues with makeup culture as it has evolved, so here’s a bit of a venting session from me! wall of text ahead!

to start: i think makeup is great, it’s incredibly fun, and i will alway stand by it as an invaluable method of immediate and non-permanent self-modification. it can help a lot of people with self expression and (mostly gender) presentation, and the fact that there are so many people who feel truer to their internal selves with the help of makeup is wonderful. 

BUT, that said, makeup culture itself is awful. i was in cosmetic sales for about 3 years, i’ve been an avid makeup enthusiast for a good decade, and it disheartens me the way people come to view themselves because of makeup culture. before i worked at sephora i was much more optimistic about makeup, and y’all would see me go blue in the face defending it– working in cosmetics shed a LOT of light on the things i would prefer to ignore.

i had the best time in berlin with a bunch of babes but we found out last week that we have to move out of our house really soon and we haven’t got anywhere else to live and i am incredibly stressed out i think i need another holiday

june has been fucking horrible. it started off with a good holiday, but then two of my rats died and then we fucking voted to brexit and now the labour party is trying to eat itself up from the inside or some shit and everything can get fucked as far as i’m concerned.

i miss my rats a whole lot (including maisie obv but we didn’t have her when this picture was taken). i can’t believe we only have minnie and maury now, and that i’ve had minnie for just under three years. at least none of them know how fucked the country is, though.

everything is fucked lads. i have absolutely no idea how i got through an 11 hour shift at work today, selling euros at a really dreadful rate to loads of really upset remain voters on about 4 hours sleep but i did it and i’m really proud of myself. doesn’t change the fact that we are totally fucked, tho.

i’ve been on total autopilot for a week now, we went away camping this weekend and it did clear the brain-fog momentarily but it’s not a permanent fix. i just feel so apathetic and devoid of all personality. so i’m posting about it on the internet.

my heart is broken into a million tiny little pieces. we lost dinah’s sister, mae, today. we think it was something neurological. she was very sweet, very gentle and very fluffy and i’m missing her already. i can’t believe we’ve gone from having five rats to two rats in just six weeks, and that minnie (one of our first ever rats, older than 3) is one of the ones left. it’s really unfair, and shit, and difficult but at least i know we’ve always done our very best for them and we’ll continue that of course. poor babies.

i’ve finished the first year of my masters! i’m working tomorrow but then i have a whole week off work with the babe of my life, and we’re going to london to see our fave pals and then to budapest! i am so excited!
