Obscure-ish (?) Cowley fun facts
To be entirely honest, I donât know whatâs considered obscure for Crowley. But hopefully thereâs something here you didnât know about ^_^
Crowley references a specific year like heâs a FNAF character- the year â1937,â which was the year of Disneyâs animated Snow White, their first feature-length animated film.
Crowley wears 14 keys on his body total- 7 on the back, 7 in the front. Referencing the Great Seven, the seven main dorms perhaps? đ As his cane is also a grand key, the total adds up to fifteen if you include it. Despite this, his special skill is lockpicking.
His vacation outfit MAY have been inspired by Robin Williamâs shirt when he played as a tourist character in 1989âs Back to Neverland, a short film showcasing the behind the scenes to Disneyâs animation process. These film was initially showcased for the Magic of Disney Animation attraction. The inspiration behind Crowleyâs vacation shirt has yet to be confirmed
The style of Crowleyâs shirt collar is called a âwing collar,â and the perforations along the toe of his shoe are known as wingtips. Crowleyâs coat has ends shaped like feathers. If you zoom in closely enough, youâll notice the interesting pattern in the wingtips of his coat- startlingly similar to real feathers đ€ Itâs a design detail not noticeable from afar, so itâs a little unsettling.
Crowleyâs concept art initially aligned with Diasomnia, with thorn and flame motifs, pose mirroring Malleusâ. It is importantly to note that these were concepts and beta designs. However, I do think itâs interesting that in the actual game, Crowleyâs alliance currently leans more towards Pomefiore.
Crowleyâs official art secretly underwent a design change! The cufflinks in his sleeve changed shape, aligning with his SSR Raven Jacket card. Was it a mistake that needed to be corrected? Either way, itâs nice to know that thereâs increasing attention to his appearance.
I believe this is EN-only, but if he makes jokes like this in the JP game, Iâd love to know! But the localizers seem to enjoy implying both Crowleyâs age and being out-of-touch with his students through his blend of outdated slang. âCats pajamaâsâ was popular in the 1920âs, âCripesâ originated in the 1910âs but surged in popularity in the mid-1900âs. âSwellâ as in good/positive was commonplace in the 1940âs. But the most interesting mistake he makes is with âwicked keen,â and implying itâs the current youth slang. This is not a known slang term, but in fact a mix of two: âwicked coolâ popularized in the 1980âs, and âpeachy keenâ popularized in the 1950âs.
Not obscure, but I saw it took many people by surprise when his card art released. Crowleyâs cane does indeed spell out âRAVEN.â
